Walkies on the Greenway today, more like brownway. Trees are pretty bare, and the geese aren’t kicking around here at the moment, but who knows what is going on up river? A few fish in the water, but they weren’t well captured by photography.
Today was a simple day, mostly of minor household chores.Laundry never stops piling up! Monday after Thanksgiving found me not needing anything from retail, as the Friday before it. The majority of trees that were going to drop foliage have done so now, even if most grass is still green. Brisk enough outside for me to enjoy, but not need more than a light sweater at most.
Went on a little jaunt this evening to look at Christmas lights after a little light decorating at home (spearheaded by MIL). Some pretty big setups outside already, despite the face that it isn’t even December first yet. #nutcracker #salemva #doodle https://www.instagram.com/p/C0Ia1b_MiVO/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==
There is snow on the ground, And the valleys are cold, And a midnight profound Blackly squats o’er the wold; But a light on the hilltops half-seen hints of feastings un-hallowed and old. There is death in the clouds, There is fear in the night, For the dead in their shrouds Hail the sun’s turning flight. And chant wild in the woods as they dance round a Yule- altar fungous and white. To no gale of Earth’s kind Sways the forest of oak, Where the sick boughs entwined By mad mistletoes choke, For these pow’rs are the pow’rs of the dark, from the graves of the lost Druid-folk.
How it feels to help with the thanksgiving cooking.
Prepping Brussels sprouts and macaroni while MIL and Mrs are doing the really hard stuff of making vegetarian shepherds pie, green bean casserole, corn pudding and, turkey, and FIL makes some of his famous biscuits.
Of course, I am really looking forward to reaping the rewards sometime soon.
This morning, a blue jay was having fun rearranging the leaves and hopping up and down the branches.
The bird was huge, maybe as tall as the distance from my elbow to wrist. I’m glad he was having such a good time, and hope he sicks around as long as possible.
General purpose day today, ran to the post office, grabbed some pocket cash to tip the clerk that shopped our groceries, picked up said groceries, ran some laundry, did a little light housecleaning, and now Pearl and I are folding said laundry on the couch. Well, I’m folding, she just quit sitting on the warm towel I just laid out to get a snack.
While out and about, I noticed the painted pig was repainted with some sorority or fraternity letters on the side, but did not get a moment to stop and photograph it. Maybe tomorrow I will get a shot, of I get out after my Tuesday hubbub.
Doodle of the day – I like being a bear in the mountains here. Love our new location, the scenery, the climate and the people for the most part. Insert “Does a bear poop in the woods?” joke here. #roanokeva #bear #doodle #mountains #woods
Went to the farmers market, dilly dally and Jamison’s in search of pumpkin pie and fresh Brussels sprouts. We ended up with coffee, pumpkin rolls, pumpkin pie, Chex mix, a Christmas ornament that says “I ❤️ hot dogs” and some tasty toast with root vegetables.
Went with Mrs and inlaws to Chris’s Coffee and Custard for a noontime snack. 3 out of four of us had gastric distress shortly thereafter, so I doubt if we will be back.
I suspect we will get coffee sometime soon to meet @maximillian_deersteak daily requirements for a seasonal bean beverage. Frozen peppermint mocha until the next season hits.
What a shame that a child is missing is doing such a poor job that they are getting consistantly failing marks on charity navigator.
They have the potential to do such good works but if they fail at accountability and finance (and they have for at least a decade now), it is time for a different one to step in and do things right.
