8324 – So, this is a Thursday, is it?

Wendy pointed me to this… how cool!

Adopt Sea Turtles for Mother’s Day!

A mother sea turtle will travel thousands of miles to move from feeding areas to mating areas and then to her preferred beach to lay her eggs.

It is a long crawl up the sandy beach where she makes her nest before she swims back to sea. Wouldn’t your mom travel such great lengths for you as well? This Mother’s Day, show her how much you appreciate all she’s done for you with an adoption of a sea turtle from WWF’s Online Adoption Center.

Second life has been running slow as molasses lately.. no packet loss so I’m a bit befuddled about the slowdown.

caution-jw
Not sure why this nice Jehovah’s Witness was cordoned off with caution tape.
This guy has been in the same location every morning with literature for at least 4-5 years.
He has at least five different cowboy hats, and he’s worn one whenever I’ve seen him.
(the cones and tape are new – his literature is laid out on top of the trash can.)

8322 – Camo-man lurks at the Bus Station.

Strange things afoot at the Bus Station yesterday morning. Unusual man lurking about, patrolling all of the bus bays, hiking at a good clip.

Click here to see him meander past on shaky-animated gif style video. – about 1 meg.

camoman3
Camo-man has powers similar to the yeti and loch ness monster, as cameras cannot photograph him properly. Is it the suit? His magical giant old-lady sunglasses (complete with rhinestones)? That huge hand-carved walking stick?

8321 – H – wow, it is trickier than it might appear!

Here is how it works: Comment in this entry, and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter including an explanation of what those words mean to you and why.

Weezeroni, that clever Weezle gave me an “H.” Here goes:

1 – Home. I need a place to keep myself and my stuff… somepleace where I can shut the doors and nobody else will have the right to come in and root through my stuff. I don’t mind having a housemate, but I really prefer to have a region that is exclusively mine. Newt is welcome anywhere, at any time, however.

2 – Hugs. I love ’em. I love to give em out to folks that aren’t made uncomfortable by them. I can be gentle, or do a spine-snapper depending on the tastes of the recipient.

3 – Humor – Of all sorts. Dry, black, witty, satire, scatalogical, slapstick… I laugh easily, even at some things that my forebrain tells me that I shouldn’t. I especially like folks that are quick wits, and those that “think outside the box”. That said, Tom Green was never, ever funny. He’s just an idiot.

4 – Harmony – When people or things just synch up and work without tossing a cog. Music is just one side of it.

5 – Her-folk (possibly also hormones or just human?) – I have a weakness for girls. So sue me. It’s not just “hotties”, but almost all women get some pedastal treatment, unless they’ve proved themselves to be severe headcases or manipulators, which then causes me to toss them into the discard pile.

6 – Hubbub/Humanity – I confess that movement and activity of people facinates me. So much about people stll confuses me, and I’m one of ’em. Different behaviors, clothes, interactions… there is monkey politics, to be sure, but folks are really amazing how they interact with one another. I’d like to think that people are fundamentally, if basic needs are met, but experience tells me that some are, and some arent. See health, below.

7 – Health – Physical, Mental, Spiritual and Social. I think that the root of all problems comes from damage in these areas. Money isn’t the root of all evil, it just adds opportunity for more good or evil.

8 – Happiness – I like to make people happy, including myself. Life’s too short to sweat the small stuff… I don’t always remember that, but when I do, it pays off in spades.

9 – Horripilation – An awesome term meaning “goosebumps”. One of my favorite little-used words. I like the thrill that comes from reading a really scary story, or going on a roller coaster type ride with a huge drop.

10- Herbivore – I prefer not to eat the flesh of an animal, if I can help it, due to the cruelty factor involved, not to mention it’s more evironmentally sound and healthy. I’m a bit hypocritical (another H word!) on that, because I will do eggs and dairy, mostly out of convenienceGeotarget

8320 – Newton Monday Icon withheld this time.

Dr Who Ep 2 was much better than the first of the season.

Elements of Bad Wolf and Torchwood, much better ambiance, and clever writing. (Funky fighting monks, and a werewolf stalking Queen Victoria doesn’t hurt either.) Potential Steampunk world at war.

Sarah Jane and K9 next week!

Monday Meeting today. New Trainers from Alabama. I hope the accents aren’t too hard for me to follow.

Why do steam irons have a “permanent press” setting?

Nifty random factoid – Botswana is the only country in the world (that I know of, anyhow) currently with a color in its flag meant to represent rain (a sort of blue-gray). (Others that existed in the past – Lesotho ’66-’87, but I’d never heard of that place before doing research.)

Giant open directory of music – slow to download, but well populated.

8317 – plop, plop, flappity flap flap.

Another one to add to “reasons I wish I could copy images/sounds seen directly to paper with photo-realistic accuracy” list.

Sitting on the porch, daydreaming and idly stroking newton, I look at one of the palm trees trees by the lake. see a coconut drop, and for a split second notice that on top of the coconut, riding the 15 foot or so drop is a medium-small sized iguana… he leapt off before the brown, furry ball hit the water, and did a belly-flop of his own into the drink about a foot to the left of the fallen tree-fruit.

The twin splashes cause about a dozen ibis to launch up and out over the water.

I think I’m the only one who saw it… nobody down by the pool or walking around the lake from my vantage point, anyhow.. it was a visual treat, but all took place before I could even think of retrieving the camera from its pouch. Even Newt was oblivious, licking a pawGeotarget

8315 – Saturday.

Meeting with the momster after Fatima cleans up the joint this morning. Maybe do lunch together and gab more about the current familial hubbub.

Another morning on the porch to come. I may need to get a box fan to put out there, before the summertime hits in full.

Moment of lyric (youtube video)

When I was surrounded by the world you were the only one who came
And you were the only one astounded who has kept me grounded
As the other girls thrashed my very name

Then I looked over just in time to see her smiling back at me
And saying everything’s OK as long as you’re inside my blue veins
Your blue veins

Yeah and the feeling that you gave me no matter what I do or where I go
It always will remain
And those who would enslave me to get to me must get past you and will have no luck
Cause you’ll protect me from all pain (that’s true, yeah, but)

The most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing cause anything else can’t compare?
Must be the blood that’s running through your blue veins
Your blue veins

Your blue veins

And I know you won’t deceive me like the rest and there’s nothing you need to explain
You always were the first one to believe me when I said to you girl
I think it’s gonna rain
But I could be wrong

Yeah but all of these things all these things they’re all truly nice
but ain’t nothing ain’t nothing compared to the love that’s running through your little blue veins

Full day today. Possible trip to dentist, chores, mom visit, maybe dinner with the crew at W’s if the timing works? Speaking of Dinner… I could stand a little breakfast. Time to forage. Until later, dear journal. As always, Newtcam should be live.

8314 – Friday 5

1. When is the last time you were broke?

TG/Christmastime 2004. A lot of financial burdens added up and I really had trouble getting out from under ’em. Fortunately, it was resolved before I got too tapped out. (Could still take care of rent, utils, etc.)

2. What makes you lose focus?

Micromanagement, Nagging, any Harpy-like activity in my environment. Boredom. something more interesting or important.

3. How tall are you?

6’5″/6’6″ depending on slouch-factor.

4. Are you brave or cowardly?

Yes, depending on what I’m made to stand up against. I pick my battles, but am willing to gnaw through an arm to get away from some things, or gnaw through someone else’s jugular to get to others.

5. What’s in your pocket?

Standard collection – Flash drive, keys, billfold, ID, pda, cell phone, bus pass, business cards, green eraser shaped like the goodyear blimp, newton whiskerGeotarget

8313 – Friday. Finally.

Wow, do I hate to iron, especially first thing in the morning. Makes me a big ol’ grumpy scottosaurus. I think I’m going to ask Fatima how much she’d charge to do a few shirts and pants. I’m just not so great at taking care of those.

Swung by a pawnshop on the way home, just to eyeball what people were selling… picked up 3 dvds for $15. Buckaroo Bonsai (Special Edition), A Monty Python TV series Dvd (contains the Deja vu, silly walks and spanish inqusition episodes), and True Romance.

Crashed right out when I got home. Played a bit with the Newtster, ate a sammich, fell asleep. Not bad, but I’d have liked to do more. Read, play SL, or the like.

Seriously considering getting a short haircut for summer. I need to look up the “donate hair to kids” places.

8311 – four-twenty, duuuuude!

Met with the momster after work yesterday, and reviewed some options regarding the grandmomster. Her brother has power of attorney, but it looks like he’s cleaning her out while grandmuh-mah slowly fades from reality on double doses of sedatives and Alzheimer’s’s. minimal highlights for future ref: mom 25%, di 25%, doug 50%, after sig’s college is paid. Speaking of little sig, bigger sig’s bought a building in Colorado and will be doing some more real estate shortly. There are a lot of sibling infighting on mom’s side of the family. Dad’s side just dies early from accidents.

Getting hotter out.. and the dragonflies (and damselflies) are *everywhere*. I remember when I was very young, I thought that they were poisonous and that they stung like scorpions. A few varieties out there, but mostly the brown ones with the striped wings, and the blue-bottle-glass looking damsels.

insomnia makes a few good points about lj’s new ad-level membership.

that and the following promise made in ’04 —

Stay advertisement free

It may be because it’s one of our biggest pet peeves, or it may be because they don’t
garner a lot of money, but nonetheless, we promise to never offer advertising space in our
service or on our pages.

A bunch of great sesame street clips, including Robert DeNiro imagines he’s Elmo! Also vaguely disturbing – Grover’s Health Minute – Teeth

Had a nice time playing “greedy greedy”, a dice game with the gang in SL. Sort of a hybrid of yahtzee and cosmic wimpout.

sketch-it is a website that lets you submit a subject, pay $1 and have it sketched for you by one of about 13 sketch artists. They’ve been doing it since January and have sketched a variety of subjects. Have an idea, but can’t draw it? They probably can. For a dollar, you can’t go wrong. Definitely take a look at the archives to see everything they’ve already sketched. There’s some good stuff in there.
