Had a production meeting today, that showed where the company is going….looks pretty good, actually. I approve of 4/6 of the current 6-sided rulership, and think that 1/6 is useless for most things, and that 1/6 should not be in any position of power whatsoever.

The finn as an admin person is mostly pointless. with the GM position dissolved and her basic attitude, I can see her being removed. good riddance to bad rubbish, when it happens. (I forsee her having 6 months to a year before they boot her.) she lacks proper people skills or adaptability for the position.

Chupacabra will be a paper tiger, at best. I think they included her just to shut her piehole.

The Remaining four are excellent at what they do. I’m going to be Kev’s right-hand man, but will still actively seek another gig, until certain conditions are repaired, and maybe even once they are.

I want – a 401k plan, work that is rewarding and challenging, higher pay, and comfort. a hefty list, but the best time to look for a job is when you have one.

Would you believe I blame this on schoolhouse rock?

back from work… stocked up for tomorrow’s date night with the sweetie.

Yum for Killian’s Red!

At lunch today, I tried burger king’s veggie burger…it’s acceptable. a dead on 5 out of ten… I know it will probably become my default BK food now, until something better comes along.

A subject I’m delving into for my own uses. Three guesses whose works I’ve staked out for dissection?
ramble about music… runs in a circle

Had a very nice walk this morning.. headed up to the beach…population was low, so it was pleasant to roam a little. On the beach walk, I saw two different people walking with toothpick in their mouths…I wonder if they came from the same eatery. Things locally have pretty much calmed down, with most of the drunken school party-folk headed back to an education of a more institutional sort.

Last night I dreamt that friend’s memoirs had been published and was being very well recieved by the public…. but he’d forgotten to get permission to name names before setting the tome in print. People kept coming over to his house, with highlighted copies of the book in hand. For every incedent of the person’s name they were allowed to take one item from his house. Some folks went easy on him, taking little things… (like a spoon or videocasettes). A jealous “friend” took all the doors in his house… apparently he was mentioned a number of times, and wanted a cut of the profits. A lawyer was making sure that the things taken weren’t “disposable”… I asked if I could just take a paper towel, and was denied.

Off to shower, though the weather wasn’t really hot enough to warrant it. just a good jump start for the day.

Slow day at work today… launch postponed until I can get Bonnie to take a minute so I can reboot the machines. That minute wasn’t there today.

Back’s doing great! Not even a hint of the prior trouble today… I hope it keeps up.

Just synched up a new pile of ebooks into the palm, along with the new onion and newspapers… a delight to have a library I can take anywhere.

Melanie Griffith’s Website is disturbing to me… sounds and such. Bleh. But these are very spiffy indeed spokes things.

Wolf Files for this week: Parents are reaching a new level of tacky by endowing their kids with names like “Poppy Honey”, “Unique” and “Gouda”. I myself don’t want to be out of style, so I’m naming my child “Kiwi Kumquat”. Who the devil names their kid “Veal”? (That’s even a sick nickname, let alone a real one.)

space men I’ve spent a bit of time looking for an army men link I neglected to link to, before… it had star trek army men, little federation and klingons form the original show, and I mentioned them to today at work. Of course, upon seeking them out, evaporation. I wonder if the site died, or a link was removed from another site. the best I could find were here, so far. This is a great army man link resource, also, but no star trek… I thought this was the place, I’m nearly sure of it! The clones on this page are priced right… $6 for 100 men. why so cheap? I think it’s for making you put up with an embedded midi on all the pages they have.

by the way…test

Nice walk this morning, but kept it brief… had a song on my lips, but I don’t know what it was. Something whistle-y, like the end credits to buckaroo banzai, or the charlie brown theme. baby sharks are not cute. they are just smaller versions of the big ones. I think that defeats the awww-cuties factor of the show. I do like the term “pupping” though for giving birth. I have about 4 people that are due for a pupping on my reading list… I wonder when the first one will pop out?

I’ve just finished writing about 2000 words into a story that I’ve neglected for far too long…I’ve discovered that I’d rather be poked in the eye than transcribe, so I’ll be doing most of my writing electronically again, either on the palm or laptop. Contemplating getting a stowaway keyboard for the palm, but I want to see if it’s really a faster and more comfortable way to write…. it might be simpler to just use the palm, and let any typos get remedied in post-production after synching it to the computer. Maybe this tiny version is an option.

Some successful programming this morning, I think the laser room is ready to go live with the new interface…I know that they may never see the easter eggs in there, but it’s still fun to have ’em.

Ouch! today’s the first day of 10 digit phone dialing… that’s going to screw up all our local phone room calling. I’m going to have to go in and twiddle all the numbers. d’oh. it was hard enough to call a cab!

BAD, BAD Reporting. Naughty journalist. Bad Scientist. bah! I know it’s mind control ocean pudding.

The black water mass off the coast of Florida got me looking around for more info.

Space.com has an article titled “Mystery of Black Water off Florida Solved

Yeah, right. Nothing to see here, everyone stay home.

For something advertised as a mystery *solved* it’s decidedly noncommital about what the solution is.

The first paragraph:

“A mysterious patch of black water off the Florida coast, the extent of which was detailed by satellite images, is most likely the result of a bloom of algae, officials said today after examining the results of water tests.”

Most likely. Solved!

However, there is an “is” statement that stands by itself. Every reference to it afterwards is weaselly, but they say what it “is” before devoting the rest of the article to guessing what it probably might be.

“The bloom, which cropped up early this year and peaked around Feb. 4, is a nontoxic cousin of the red tide, which has been blooming off southwest Florida since last August.”

See, it “is” a cousin of the red tide. Although we don’t know what it is. But don’t worry, it’s a (presumably) non-toxic cousin of something we do know about, because it has to be because we don’t know what it is.

“Gil McRae, a scientist with the Florida Marine Research Institute, said the black water bloom does not appear to be hazardous to humans, adding that the event is not likely the result of polluted river runoff or any other human or mysterious cause.”

Uh huh. Does not appear to be, not likely the result of… really going out on a limb there, ain’t ya Gil?

“Nothing indicates that this is anything other than a natural event,” McRae said in a telephone interview. Importantly, he added, “there’s no toxicity associated with it like there is with a red tide.”

Uh, Gil? What would indicate that it is an unnatural event? I mean, other than not knowing what the heck it is?

“Some of these things were probably quite common in the past, but we didn’t know about them because we didn’t have the imagery,” he said.”

Yeah, and dragons were probably *really* quite common in the past, but we didn’t have cameras. Good thing, because otherwise all my time travel exploits would have been revealed, too.

“McRae said the bloom was likely caused by organisms called diatoms.”

But they are a non-toxic cousin of the more familiar red tide diatoms. We think. So, even though we can’t conclusively say that it *is* due to diatoms, since if we could we would, we can conclusively say that they are non-toxic. Because they have to be because we don’t know what the heck it is and it looks bad. So it’s safe and non-toxic. Trust us, we’re scientists.

“Why the diatoms generated a bloom remains unknown. McRae said it could be a transition of some sort from the red tide that has been present in the region and is caused by another organism.”

Oh, why bother? Whatever, buddy. A big black mass you can see from space, and you still can’t commit to anything but that it’s nothing to worry about and not likely the result of pollution or “mysterious cause.”

There you have it. The black water mystery – solved!

fresh from a relaxing hot shower.

I see an invading bug of a nondescript sort.

drying in a towel, I call out to Newton… “Destroy the invader, my noble jungle friend!” (In my best James Earl Jones Basso-profundo, no less) If I’d had more time, I’d have come up with something better. maybe an opening of “Hie thee behind me, oh meddling fiend, lest I release the terrible whirlwind of justice that is Newton!…. To me, my son!”. There’s always next time.

he trots in, pounces, and with a sickening crunch after about 30 seconds of pursuit, our six-legged intruder is no longer on this plane of existance. I feel a moment of mixed feelings… pride in Newton’s speedy dispatch of the segmented arthropod and attending to me. a little sad that some silly bug probably did the insect equal of flying accidentally over enemy lines, and without so much as a radio warning, the government fired a sidewinder missile at the lost navigator.

well, them’s the breaks. if I’d discovered him while in clothes, I’d not have had to summon the cavalry. don’t mess with superior firepower.

Trying suave shampoo, as the grocery was out of the australian stuff… smells good, and does a good job at cleaning.

Newt ate the bug in its entirety, and I am dry now. I must photograph my defender for posterity. be right back. back. did you miss me, dear journal?

All hail the mighty defender! rah! rah! rah!

he is now eating his kibble…I imagine to get the flavor of the enemy from his capable jaws. Newton is truly mighty, as well as noble.

feeling silly. the universe just changed settings.

Laugh-O-Matic (Serious / Satirical / Witty / Wacky / Insane) …the needle is pushing a bit more ot the right.

Ok, color me home.

http://www.jetspizza.com/images/jetpack3.gifI ordered a Jet’s Pizza, veggie with parm-crust. large delivered for $7. if I’d come and gotten it, it would’ve been $5. (Veggies are – onions, green peppers, mushrooms & black olives. Hold the tomatoes.) Apparently, it’s a michigan thing… the one up the street is the first florida location. lucky me!

The marketing worked on me!

Newt is Crrrrrazy lovey. so off to play with the kitty I go.

Raining lightly out this morn, I walked for a little bit, maybe a mile. I slept soundly… I was up later than I’d planned last night. Read quite a lot, polished off a few of the heel-ends of the books I was reading. I want to eat what the giraffe is having for lunch on animal planet… fresh apples, especially. I’m settling for apple-cin oatmeal, and it’s fine by me. Some interesting opportunities on the horizon, I think. Currently being mauled by Newtie, because of a recent tooth-brushing. *note to self* Brush teeth after eating oatmeal. bleh.
