9065 – Wednesday, early in the morning, waiting for his ride.

Coughing… but poor BHK is feeling more sick than me. It’s certainly chilly this morning, and is expected to be snowy midday today. Quite a change from Monday’s balminess.

If anyone out there wants to send me a dvd of swarm of the snakehead, please do! BHK and I have been giggling like goobers for the past week about snakehead fish. If push comes to shove, we may fork over the $17 for the DVD, but I wonder if it’ll kill the pure goofiness of the previews. Maybe I can learn to sew, and make a knit snakehead ?

All silliness aside, the snakehead is a serious matter. I can’t help it if it’s a borderline chupacabra / area 51 / bigfoot sensation here, too.

Handwriting meme – (Forgive Scotto’s Messy hand, and blurry-ish cameraphone!)

Answer the following questions in your own handwriting:

1) Name/username.
2) Left or right handed?
3) Favorite letters to write.
4) Least favorite characters to write.
5) Write “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
6) Tag 5 people.

Random Scotto factoid. When I see a symmetrical “heart shape” I pick out the two semi-circles on top and bottom triangle piece before I see the whole image. That’s why I like to draw mine unbalanced, or off-center. I don’t know what that means.

BHK and I went to Barnes and Noble last Friday and didn’t buy anything despite having a $50 gift card in my pocket. How did that happen?

Flickr user brandonwu got up bright and early to get this image on Monday morning. Lots of “Awakening” images were in the DCist Pool this past long weekend, as it’s to be dug up on Wednesday and moved to Prince George’s County. EXIF here. – via DCist

I hope to visit it after it was moved… I went there once as a young boy, when I lived in Alexandria.

That reminds me –

Nightmare Playgrounds – most seem to be from Russia and Prague… I wouldn’t mind visiting!

These creepy masterpieces of sculpture and landscaping can be found in playgrounds not only in Russia (even though this is where the majority of photos come from) but also in China, East European Countries, and even in the US – anywhere the grass-roots creativity goes bad and the bad taste gets promoted, often unintentionally.

Awesome. More Awesome.

Getting cooler already… 44 today as opposed to 74 yesterday. Let’s hope this isn’t an even slope into the weekend!

Best bumper sticker seen this weekend – “What would Scooby Do?”

Veggie stir fry with red rice tonight… yummy. broccoli, snap beans, snow peas, and carrots…. nom nom nom.

BHK and I were watching the Chocolate Challenge last night, where one of the contestants goofed up the Statue Of Liberty in Chocolate… fubared the arm, headdress and the tablets were missing (But did pretty well, considering the height of stress that seemed to be going on) – had me thinking of a Cloverfield moment. Apparently this image happens more often than I thought. (found via fark) I knew Planet of the Apes, of course, A.I., and Escape from New York… but look at ’em all. I totally forgota about the way-cool Thundarr the Barbarian one, and the Scene from Superman II.

Noel Kern’s Flickr has some amazing long-open shutter pics. Same with ihveissues.

The Pentagon says it has to shoot down a malfunctioning spy satellite because of the threat of a toxic gas cloud. Space security experts are calling the rationale highly unlikely. “Having the US government spend millions of dollars to destroy a billion-dollar failure to save zero lives is comedic gold,” one tells DANGER ROOM.

There’s going to be a total lunar eclipse Wednesday evening, (February 20th), which should turn the moon deep red as Earth’s shadow passes over it. Maximum eclipse will be at 10:26 PM EST and 7:26 PST. Besides North and South America, the eclipse will be from South America and most of North America (on Feb. 20) as well as Western Europe, Africa, and western Asia (on Feb. 21). The next Lunar Eclipse is due December 2010.

Fidel Castro has formally stepped down as the president of Cuba, ending one of the longest tenures in the world as a head of state. Castro, 81, has been suffering from a long illness associated with a colon infection, and gave temporary power to his brother, Raúl Castro, 76, in 2006. Whether his resignation actually sparks changes in Cuba’s system of government remains to be seen, and many experts appear to be skeptical as to whether Fidel will actually accept a less active role in governing the country. Still, the end of Castro’s reign over Cuba marks a significant day in world history. President Bush has called for the release of Cuba’s political prisoners.
