6671 Will I ever have silence again? No time soon with 10 bazillion legit mp3s.

I’m so happy when I catch a little touch of a loved one. I want to see all of those I care about in a good place… so many are dealing with rough patches, and I’m just glad that time can remedy the majority of them.

Couldn’t get together with bro last night, so I’ll try for this weekend sometime… maybe tonight. It’d be good if I could so double-duty, and maybe wash my laundry in the complex’s pay machines, but I think I prefer the ‘mat, just for the triple-loaders.

Good feelings and vibes are here, and I’m happy share ’em.

Hm.. interesting things traded for a Gmail account. I’m happy to have just given mine away to some worthy recipients.

I haven’t had a hostess fruit-pie in a long time. I think I’ll get one today around lunch time, if I can find a place that sells fresh ones. I could go for a nice cherry pie.

Archive.org hosting every Grateful Dead bootleg (1364 concerts listed)

The most downloaded show: January 8th, 1979 at Madison Square Garden in NYC, NY

A list of all the artists hosted so far

Of course, obligatory wi-fi mention here… I can now download mp3s right to the smartcard for portable Deaddin’. (or Zwan, Cowboy Junkies, The Big Wu, String Cheese Incident or Soul Coughing.)

If you’re wondering what a shorten / FLAC / SHN file is (listed more often with soundboard recordings), you can listen with this on Windows (Mind the directions especially if you have XP.), or this on Mac/Linux.

Me, I’m not that much of a purist, so I’ll often squash ’em down to Mp3s, just for size and easy playablilty.

Looks like the bro is moving out of the mother’s place… sound idea, I think. I know he can afford an efficiency now, and they’re just butting heads at this point.

Me, I’d have lobbed his ass back to jail after earlier this week… but I’m glad they’re still working with him. He’s got some good appointments for this morning.

I plan on visiting him later this week and playing some heroclix, or goofing off in some other way.

I’ve calmed down a lot over the last couple of days. Maintaining rage is too much work…it tires me out.

6669 The Florida Black Bear

The black bear may be Florida’s most misunderstood mammal. Feared by many as a man-eating predator and adored by others as a cuddly teddy bear, the truth, as usual, lies somewhere in between. Although we will never know everything about bears, a quarter century of research and management by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has revealed much about the habits, needs and behavior of Florida’s largest native land animal. 6668 – Happy Feast Day of St. Dunstan! (one of my favorites)

Born of a noble family at Baltonsborough, near Glastonbury, England, Dunstan was educated there by Irish monks and while still a youth, was sent to the court of King Athelstan. He became a Benedictine monk about 934 and was ordained by his uncle, St. Alphege, Bishop of Winchester, about 939. After a time as a hermit at Glastonbury, Dunstan was recalled to the royal court by King Edmund, who appointed him abbot of Glastonbury Abbey in 943. He developed the Abbey into a great center of learning while revitalizing other monasteries in the area. He became advisor to King Edred on his accession to the throne when Edmund was murdered, and began a far-reaching reform of all the monasteries in Edred’s realm.

Dunstan also became deeply involved in secular politics and incurred the enmity of the West Saxon nobles for denouncing their immorality and for urging peace with the Danes. When Edwy succeeded his uncle Edred as king in 955, he became Dunstan’s bitter enemy for the Abbot’s strong censure of his scandalous lifestyle. Edwy confiscated his property and banished him from his kingdom.

Dunstan went to Ghent in Flanders but soon returned when a rebellion replaced Edwy with his brother Edgar, who appointed Dunstan Bishop of Worcester and London in 957. When Edwy died in 959, the civil strife ended and the country was reunited under Edgar, who appointed Dunstan Archbishop of Canterbury. The king and archbishop then planned a thorough reform of Church and state. Dunstan was appointed legate by Pope John XII, and with St. Ethelwold and St. Oswald, restored ecclesiastical discipline, rebuilt many of the monasteries destroyed by the Danish invaders, replaced inept secular priests with monks, and enforced the widespread reforms they put into effect. Dunstan served as Edgar’s chief advisor for sixteen years and did not hesitate to reprimand him when he thought it deserved.

When Edgar died, Dunstan helped elect Edward the martyr king and then his half brother Ethelred, when Edward died soon after his election. Under Ethelred, Dunstan’s influence began to wane and he retired from politics to Canterbury to teach at the Cathedral school and died there.

Dunstan has been called the reviver of monasticism in England. He was a noted musician, played the harp, composed several hymns, notably Kyrie Rex splendens, was a skilled metal worker, and illuminated manuscripts. He is the patron of armorers, goldsmiths, locksmiths, and jewelers.

6667 Make way for ducklings

Dang… big ol’ rainstorm last night! Looks like it’s going to be big and wet the rest of the week.

Lots of piccies this entry. Took a few with my palm, hated them, and went back with my regular one to compare contrast.

I think it’s adorable that ducklings will orbit mama duck… venture foo to explore, but as soon as anything unusual happens, they run like a unit back to mama.

Some ducky-pictures, and a couple of others:

Went to see my brother last night, in a last ditch effort to support him emotionally and straighten his ass out. Things got pretty ugly, and stuff happened that I find to be beyond unbelievable. The bottom line is that while I may love him, I sure as hell don’t like him very much. It’s times like this that I’d like to swear off my family name and start a fresh one because I’m sick to death of who I’m related to. The Bro basically has done things worse to me than my mother ever did… If I was where I was at mentally even a couple of years back, I’d have disowned him without a second thought.

As it stands, I had a second thought, and he’s still my brother. He’s a stupid, creepy, vile fuck of a brother as far as my mind is right now, but he’s my brother nonetheless. Half of my support is out of love for him, and the other half is keeping him where I can see him, lest I turn my back on a viper and be struck out of foolishness.

He knows where he stands with me.

That is the land of lost content
I see it shining plain
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
-A. E. Houseman
-from “A Stropshire Lad”

I don’t know if he can ever regain my trust. We’ll see. Something amazing would have to happen. I’ve already forgiven him for being who he is and what he’s done, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten.

I never thought the person that would raise so much bile in my throat would be my brother. Today I’ve gone from disappointed, to furious, to frightened, to enraged, to shaken. Right now, I’m very sad with a side of thoroughly disgusted. I had half a mind to call in sick today.

Enough of that, for now, though. Let’s do some stupid links, dear journal.

I dig the Chinese lessons, even if the fortune seems more like a booty-kiss than a portent.

GrayPumpkin telephoned yesterday, while I was out gallivanting with Dan. Hopefully I’ll get a call back again this afternoon… it’s been a while since we caught up and gabbed.

Geraldo is still a reporter on Fox news? I thought they booted him for his desert shenanigans a year ago. I don’t actively watch Fox, seeing him on was a fluke of channel-surfing. It’s beyond me why a right-wing slanted network would keep him.

L.A. Story on the tube now. I could watch that movie a thousand times. You can really tell when Steve Martin is on his game, or just coasting for dollars. L.A. Story just presses so many of the right buttons with me. Music by Enya, Prophetic Traffic signs, something witty or touching in every line, well timed… and a beautiful love story.

In 2000, parents using a voucher for disabled children to send a child to the Dyslexia Research Institute did not have to supplement the state’s $4,700 check — state law prohibited the practice.

Four years later, thanks to a change in the law in 2001 done at the behest of the politically connected private school, those same parents will have to spend nearly $5,000 of their own money — almost matching the value of the $5,100 voucher — to get the same education.

The net effect: Low-income parents, whom the McKay voucher program was created to help, will now have to pay almost as much out of pocket this autumn as they would have before the voucher program was created, with the school’s administrators reaping most of the windfall from the voucher payment, former parents and teachers charge. “Tuition costs may rise for parents using vouchers”.

Bro seems a lot more racist and culturally blame-y these days. Another side of that “it’s everyone’s fault but mine” attitude. I’ll do what I can to help turn his opinions around.

Going out to lunch with ol’ Danny-boy. He got a gift certificate to Houston’s, so it’s his treat. Works for me! More later on, dear journal.
