I want a buttered muffin, a carafe of OJ, and a back rub.

instead, a protein bar, water and petting Newt will do.

I’m fiddling with my homepage. I wanted to make it as omni-browser safe as possible. That may not be probable.

Netscape people – I’m tired of doing loads of extra coding because your crap little browser does not conform to the set of published standards. So there. I am not a Microsoft fanboy, but I do believe they have the best browser.

Just to help anyone to understand the pain in the butt that Netscape is: I’ve made this nice little DHTML thing that lets you select a picture from a drop down menu and then changes the picture and the caption underneath. It works like a baboon on acid in IE, but of course, NS chokes and dies when this is in fact all pretty standard stuff.

I’ve seen and tested Netscape 6.1, and the little SOB still won’t show the pics.

What happened? Netscape used to be the cutting-edge one. I hate Bill Gates as much as the next guy, but the product is superior.

I really dislike making something that one group is left out on, but I don’t know… maybe it’s time to say “sorry guys, what you get is what you have, if you had the better *just as free* browser, instead. not safe for five browsers, just good for lynx level text only, and the whee-fun msie with flash and DHTML schtuff.

made lots of fun flash thingies, but nothing final..little popboopdingthings. more learning procedures. amazing, versatile and simple language.

So, anyway… where’s my sweetie? I think she went back to bed and closed the lid tight, like Tupperware. (No wonder she’s so young looking!) 😉 My little Moonflower seems to be extra sleepy lately…well, I’ll just think good thoughts for sleeping beauty and bounce from writing to code to reading by her side until she gets up. Hopefully she’ll wake long enough for us to watch mad tv or snl tonight.

I need to give myself a writing project. a fresh genre, maybe. Mystery? Western? Romance? A silly, light comic-booky story?

I dunno…

Landlord left. He’ll be back tomorrow to put insulation and patch drywall.

Carman quit yesterday (with good reason) , and that probably means Karen won’t be far behind. It’s too bad, but probably couldn’t be avoided. A shame though, because they’re both good people, good workers, and people I could see being work-buddies with. They’ll still be pals, but I won’t see as many happy, pleasant faces.

Maybe something about work?

today is going *poorly*

running late.

in clumsy oaf mode, I’ve broken the door, because I lost my temper when the keypad didn’t work for the umpty-umpth time, and smacked (I only smack inanimate objects) it, putting a hand-shaped dent in the cheap, hollow plywood piece of crap they call a door.

I just went to kevin’s office, and told him to let me know how much a replacement cheap, hollow plywood piece of crap they call an excuse for a door will be.

Did laundry today, again at the Mat-o-confrontation. 🙂

The dryer 3 over from mine was broken, and somebody’s sheets and aprons caught fire… I don’t know if it was because of the dryer, or something rubber or plastic in there, but when they opened the thing up, the onrush of air ignited the hot things in there, filling the whole ‘mat with smoke. Fortunately I had already folded my clothes and was waiting out front for my ride.

For dinner… I’m making scrambled cheese-eggs, toast, and veggie links. Ketchup will be involved.

My sweetie is out and about tonight, but should be back at a reasonable hour…I hope she’s doing ok, with her ickie sickies out in the cold.

Hmm… shall I read as I eat? or be lazy and do the simpler tv?

Admiral Yamamoto of the Japanese Navy planned the attack on Pearl Harbor and said after the attack, “I fear all we have done is to wake a sleeping giant.”

I really, really hope that whatever retribution happens is just and well thought out.

I worry for the lives of innocents everywhere…I hope that those that did this are dealt with, and those that had no part are left unharmed.

psychosomatic. That boy needs therapy.

I trimmed my list. (And sent off appropriate notes to those that I felt obliged to remove, for one reason or another.) It’s sad, because I really liked those folks, but *TIME AND TIME AGAIN* there’s involvement with a LJ drama. That seems counterproductive. This whole “you’re friends with X, so you can’t be friends with Y” nonsense is right out of grade 2. So, forget it. I’m sure I’ll be adding some back later (If they’ll have me). but for now, I’m just not dealing with it. Lakme pulled that silly stuff with folks I liked reading last time around. I still sometimes wonder if she ever confessed in her journal to her colossal mistake, and character assassination. I figure the current hot air will stop blowing in a few days…. but it seems its the same group of people every time. I wonder if a more permanent decision isn’t more reasonable. A shame so many of them are so likeable. A couple of rotten apples wreck the party for everyone…(If I’m allowed to mix cliche & metaphor… it’s my journal. I’ll say yeah.)

fixer upper update, from here – http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?itemid=9601466&nc=115

The more controversial thing is that we’re probably going to limit the number of posts/day and comments/post for free users. We have to decide between the lesser of the evils — limits or having a site that always appears to suck.[1]

I already mentioned this in paidmembers, but one db slave is now doing nothing but paid user traffic, and it’s totally caught up… there should be no lagging if you’re logged in.

[1] Update: Relax, everybody … we’re not “cutting off” free users. Stop freaking out … we understand why LJ is a successful community (we made it, afterall) and we’re not going to do anything to bastardize it. Any “limits” we impose will be reasonable… we always collect stats before imposing limits such that 90% or so of people remain unaffected. The limits we’re talking about here are temporary ones, to ease the free db servers until the new ones arrive on the 1st

an excellent commentary by bandicoot about what’s been going on in LJville lately.

How can you manage the finances without a reasonable campaign to promote paid accounts and ensure a reliable stream of income? The present percentage of paid accounts is flat-out embarrassing. At some point, hardware requirements aside, paid full-time employees are going to be necessary to keep LJ running, and you can’t do that without a better paid-user base. And that requires financial management that is currently non-existent.

If LJ doesn’t get good, coherent management soon, it’s going to bog down and die. And that would be a real shame. – a quote from same message.

My emergency plan… either here – http://scottobear.com/blog/blog.html

or here – http://www.deadjournal.com/~scottobear

just in case LJ has a case of the stinkies today. I hope they get their act together soon, though. (I prefer deadjournal… same goonsquad atmosphere…)

but blogger has a nice post proggie. (Mind you, livejournal will be my permanent journal.. I have a lifetime account… but I’m going to have a backup plan.)

Oh… it looks like Wally is surely fired, and that the police will be waiting for him at the port he comes in from vacation… mail fraud, misrepresentation of federal documents, embezzelment…

Looks like the chain gang for him! Time for him to bone up on his spirituals, rock breakin’, and hope for minimal unwanted anal intercourse.

In more positive news –

I’m having Thai food tonight, in the name of the woman I love. *stands proudly and tall* I’m going to try a new local place that I’ve never tried before, once I make it to the house. Some spring rolls in pinapple sauce…and something spicy. not sure what yet, but I’m in the mood for something with zip… I like it pretty hot.(They have a vegan version of Pad Thai available… maybe I’ll do that, or some tofu yummies). I’m going to make hot Chai tea tonight, too.

Glutton powers, activate!

I’ve got a little while to think about it… looks like I have another half-hour’s worth of work to do here.

Geez.. I must’ve had two bowls of drama flakes this morning.

Write about – Wally getting caught at postal fraud and embezzling… Jail time for him? Fired by ramada? (hopefully this won’t hurt Terri or Derrick… they’re probably patsys. But you know what they say about shaking hands with the devil.)

Diana maybe getting tossed out (she’ll rebound oko… work for another mailshop thing)

downsides – paul has holding rights in company, terri quitting?(unlikely)

Sheesh… I have to get the whole story down tonight to try and let Tman, Pixx and Havagan know about it. (ex employees)

Friend’s list peskiness.

Here’s the thing.

Reasons for Scotto to trim his friend’s list.

1. If the person posts stuff I think will get me in trouble at work. (Nudity, porn links without warning or such)
2. Excessive foul language (seeing f-this and f-that f-the other)
3. Nothing in common, or we never talk
4. My List is too big, and I had to trim somewhere.
5. General Mean-spiritedness
6. I Never see posts in the journal anymore
7. I see 10000 one-line posts in a journal, I’ll generally remove them, because it hampers my ability to read the rest of the folks I link to.

I’ve gone past my limit of reading again, and broken my rule of ‘add one, remove two’ links. It hurts, because there are a lot of nice people out there, but I simply just cannot keep up with everybody. most of my trimming is due to reasons number 1-4.

My goal is never to hurt someones feelings, and even when I do trim my list, I’ll probably go back every now and then to peek and catch up, when I get a chance to catch a breath. I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings during this process.

That being said, I’m *still* trying to trim my list further down. I don’t know what I’m a-gonna do about this.
