6905 – undifferentiated tissue process (ts-77ix)

Today is my bro’s 32nd birthday. I’ll be getting together with him after work tonight for supper and presents. No giving him cash or easily swapped out items this year… I’m going to help him fix up his truck so he can make some money doing post-hurricane cleanup around the tri-county area. Help him to help himself.

Samples of the courtyard before and after Jeanne came through. Who knew so many leaves were left after the first two ‘canes? All the old leaves were just raked out, too. Ah well!

6885 – The first eater is like the latter eater?

I was right, seasons do bring change. I can see color returning to the world, and I hope for more warmth, though the sun is retreating from the earth. I have a heart full of hope, reds, browns and ornj.

Sadly Jumped the shark – Penn & Teller, George Carlin, Harlan Ellison. The pissed-off and snarky revealer of truth bit has worn thin, and made you guys look petty and mean.

City of Heroes First update is *sharp*. Well-timed, too. I like Eastgate, and the newly revised martial arts.

My shelves are crowded. Is there ever enough room for books? Do they always breed, and spread out to fill any shelving to contain them?

Dang… spambots again and again. They still haven’t worked out that I screen anony-comments. I always remove them right away, and mark ’em as spam.

It seems LJ isn’t the only victim… Bloggers Declare War on Comment Spam, but Can They Win?

As long as I can filter-preview, I figure I’m good.. it’s a minor issue.

Why is this stuck in my head?

Prepare for trouble!
Make it double!

To unite all peoples within our nation!
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
To extend our reach to the stars above!

Surrender now, or prepare to fight!

Play Dark Tower online!

The sounds are a real kick back to the old days. To be honest, I don’t think we ever quite played it right back then. We used to associate the “tomb” sound with flatus.

Doo The Dew: The Great Mountain Dew Pitch Black Green Poo ExperimentMountain Dew Pitch Black contains Blue Dye #1. PoopReport’s resident poop-color expert says that many kinds of blue dye (his experience was with Blue Dye #5 in Kool-Aid Purplesaurus Rex) “combine with bile, and form a brilliant green.”

Hm. Dark purple-black soda pop makes your poo bright green. Innnnteresting.

6877 – Monday the Thirteenth!

meme from all over (found lately at calamity‘s):

If you wish, please reply to this post and write something you would like to do with me someday.

Then post this in your journal to find out what people want to do with you.

September is going to bring a lot of things, I think. Bro’s Birthday coming up, as well.

I feel isolated and a little out of whack today. A few possible remedies, though I suspect the most likely one is tincture of time. Autumn is nearly here, and I hope that the recharge it brings will bring more light, less glare. Drugstores are doing the Halloween thing, already. Part of it is probably due to the number of cases last night.. the most recent was at 3:30 am.

I’m mildly peeved that I had much of the weekend off, but still just spent it inside, reading. I probably could’ve done more, but really wasn’t too motivated. Got the basics covered.

Come to think of it… a good case against Voodoo actually working is Papa & Baby Doc’s long-term existence.

I miss arcades… back when there was a big room full of pac man and centipede-type games.

6873 -Friday, Already?

Well, I saw the bag lady this morning seeking shelter from the rain under the BK awning. Either she, or a well-made duplicate created to confuse and console me.

EN is going to start as tech next Wednesday, and the Sunday after that. I foresee a week or tow of babysitting from home, just in case, and then I’ll have every other weekend off.

Had a good time talking to him about Earthdawn, Magic cards and Etc.

Keeping a diary is bad for your health, say UK psychologists. They found that regular diarists were more likely than non-diarists to suffer from headaches, sleeplessness, digestive problems and social awkwardness.

6870 – I remember the responsometer malfunction of '97.

Power was off at work until about 2pm… when the server woke back up, it emailed me, asking for permission to stay awake, so I told it to go ahead. Big Kahuna, Rogers and I went in and unpacked all of the other hardware. I got the office up and running in about an hour and a half… one of the benefits of being in a hurricane environment is knowing how to pack and unpack in a blink. The building was *hot*.. sealed up for three days without A/C makes the third floor like an attic, but the place got cranking with cool about the time I left. Too late for me, I was a walking river by that time. (Two floors of machines, telephone and other hardware had to be put back together. I’m leaving it to the office-folks to put pictures and such back. No water damage, but the wind really played havoc with the branches everywhere we went.

Today will be a more straight-forward day.

Disco-Hitler. It’s him. He’s the supervillain I’ve been wondering about. (more musical villains here) It’s been around for ages, but every time I rediscover it, it kills me.

Ivan looks like he’s keeping a Southerly course, sneaking up the West Coast of Florida. Still too early to fret, but at least the weekend isn’t wrecked.

The World of Warcraft demo is looking neato! Here’s a peek at Whimsy’s Night Elf… note the plunging neckline, and freakishly large hands. good size for wallpaper… I like the little flowers on the Guardian Tree’s feet and organic feel of the whole place. I’m envious, because she’s a druid and can shapeshift into a bear! However, I think I’d have more fun playing the giant tree.

Clickie to biggie.

A 3D chocolate printer in the works. That’s a really cool idea… a *lot* of potential there. Made out of lego. superb thought.

Episode 11 of Making Fiends is here!

America’s Army is pretty cool. It’s a fun bit of military recruitment, disguised as a FPS. Graphics are nice.. I wonder how many folks have been convinced to join up as a result? I’m doing the medic training… it’s interesting and educational.

KILLDOZER II: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

once again, Clickie to biggie.

The closest thing to a mech I’ve ever seen. Look at the size of the thing!!! That’s not forced perspective… it’s just fricking enormous. (spun into from here)

6865 – backdated from Thursday

backdated.

I decided briefly that I wasn’t comfortable with the C’s around Newt. I think that Jan or even Danny might get careless, and do something that would cause Newt to somehow get hurt out of the house… I’m being irrational. I came close to having a panic attack just thinking of poor Newt, out in a hurricane. It sort of saddens me to be this distrustful of Dan and his wife, but they just don’t know better, and are prone to carelessness. I don’t think that I should stay, here, but if I go to Danny’s place, I’m going to have to lay down some ground rules. Maybe I’ll stay with Newt in the guest bathroom the whole time. [update: Of course ,I ended up going to Dan and Janet’s, and everything turned out fine)

pretend-sushi made with twinkies and dried fruit… I think I’m more partial to the kebabs.

Looking for more potential hurricane cams? Check this old entry for lots o’ links. note that some links may be broken, but the Sun-Sentinel’s has always been pretty reliable.

I tried out the evil genius demo… pretty cute, but I’m not sure how much repeat game play it holds. Being a Bond-style villain is fun… and the music is groovy. Sort of a sim-city version of Evil base management.

6836 – In that big rock candy mountain…

Haven’t heard much from bro lately. I assume that he’s up to trouble with his band of no-goods. (or was that Noodles Romanoff?) I’m not currently stressing about it.

It seems that There isn’t as dead as I thought it might be. Another major update is coming shortly, and the world still seems to have a lot of activity. I’ve gone from living in a house there to being a squatter, just setting up wherever I decide to relogin. I haven’t spent a therebuck since the top of this year, if that. I don’t foresee needing any for the rest of my life in There.

It was H.P. Lovecraft‘s Birthday yesterday… still haven’t decided where to go on walkabout. Maybe I’ll do the cemetery thing after all. Supposedly haunted by Rocky Marciano, too.

If anyone cares to join me, I’ll be bringing a thermos of lemonade, a bit of pound cake, and A mix of White Zombie (it is not heresy… and I will not recant.), They Might Be Giants, and 60’s TV show themes as mp3s on the palm.

For the Record: I’m sort of in Kevin Matchstick / Silent Bob mode, sans baseball bat and overcoat.

red/white and black stripe-dyed T-shirt, long black cargo shorts, white socks, black sneakers. Hair down, 24-hour stubble on cheeks and jaw.

Blog of a guy walking form Nebraska to the East Coast. He prefers to do that rather than look for work.

Personally, I think he’s got some serious dysfunction issues, but it’s interesting to see progress. current post Looks like a lot of folks are considering him a vagrant.. people feeding him, and cops giving him a ride to jurisdictional lines. He certainly is homeless and a transient.

Speaking of which, It’s time for me to go a hikin’… until later, dear journal.

Cloak of levitation optional.

6832 – By hook or by crook…

I’m not a number… but even if I were, wouldn’t that still make me unique?

I look grumpy in a blazer.
(image mercilessly swiped and edited from GURPS the Prisoner)

The idea of a Gilligan’s Island / Prisoner crossover makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Zombies in the village would be a hoot, too. Small population, closed system.

I’d love to vacation in the village, but being stuck there has very little appeal to me. I get a little stir crazy when I know that I have to stay in to be on call. I do carry equivalents of an employment card, a card of identity, a health and welfare care and a credit card already.

Somehow, I suspect that if I were ever to be taken to a place like that, it’d be because the masters think I knows something they want, but actually doesn’t.

I don’t think that music makes a quiet mind.

Calling someone number 2 tickles a scatological element of my funny bone. (same for Number one, for that matter. Sorry, Riker.)

About that Stormtrooper wedding… on thinking about it.. isn’t that maybe a little too close to a sci-fi version of a Nazi-themed wedding?

Speaking of Nazi weddings, that brings to mind Wagners “Wedding March – Lohengrin” He was someone elevated quite a bit by Hitler and gang. Even though Wagner died well before Hitler ever rose to power, he was by most reports an anti-Semite, an adulterer, and a world class jerk even without those first two categories being filled. Fortunately, I tend not to think an artist’s moral credentials should be considered too much when evaluating their work… otherwise, I’d probably hate most music made in my lifetime, let alone art through history.

Adsense dropped me, without paying. I smell a rat. They owed me over $150, and claim I violated terms of service. It looks like someone was hammering my site with a bot, though the hammer was coming out of AOL, I’m still out of luck. So, I guess that means if someone you don’t like has adsense on their page, you can stop them from getting paid by hammering them, repeatedly. I wonder how long before some script kiddies take advantage of that piece of knowledge?

Ah well, I still get $40 a month for my static ads on my home page. That pays for hosting, online CoH, and $15 worth of fun money a month to drop on whatever.

Instead of pitching a fit, I threw two new games in the toybox. connect four and curveball. (curveball gets tricky about level 8)

I’m in the mood to walk on tall, thin grass in bare feet.

I’ve been wondering lately about how impermanent a mark this journal is, at least online. In fifty years, will there still be a livejournal? If I print it out and save it in book form, the cross-referenced links become pointless, although most links die quickly on the web anyway. Even remotely-hosted images vanish as time goes by. the dynamic aspect of comments goes away with printing, too. Even though a lot of the fun links would be sacrificed, I think I will print out and store my journal, just for the heck of it. I wonder how many sheets of paper this beast would take up? I have been maintaining it since the turn of the century, after all. I’d burn it to a CD, but that seems so transitory, too… most computers don’t have floppy-drives included anymore, will there be CD drives even a decade from now? Maybe just burn it to CD and keep it on the inside front cover as a memento of time long past, before whatever wacky storage formats drive the poor discs into landfills.

I don’t think it’s vain of me to want to leave my journal behind for other people to read… maybe it’s because I’m nosy, and like to read other journals myself, but I think that there are some goodies inside that someone might want to see later on, even if that someone is me. I like reading my old entries and being reminded of things in my life. I know I’ll want to see pictures of Newt as a baby, dealings with whatever drama, saved conversations with mi Ornj, crude palm doodles, and whatever was nifty to me at the time.

Now leaving the Northern Perimeter.

Be Seeing you, Dear journal.

6824 – The trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw.

Took myself out to lunch and a movie yesterday afternoon. AvP was much less than what I expected. Very poorly directed… the last thing I want from an action movie is to be bored. It made me want to go back to play the first person shooter, so maybe that’s what they were going for… more video game sales. The effects were quite good, but that’s about it… I’m guessing they went pg-13 to bring in a younger contingent, and a lot of it could’ve been improved with more visual direction. I should’ve gone to see Bourne, instead.

Lunch was better… cheese trio sammich at Blimpie. I stopped off at the library after, to cool off before making the march home.

Note to self, bus schedules have changed, download new pdfs to palm.

I wonder how long it’ll be before they try for a Land of The Lost movie now? Or maybe Ultraman (in the US – I can’t seem to find any of the old Asian ones on Bittorrent)? I just like scary humanoids with big round eyes, and head-fins. (I already got my Rocketeer movie.)

Pictures from my day’s Walkabout:

6821 Friday, Friday… Friday the 13th.

The closer the time comes for the big kahuna to leave town, the more irritable and stressed she becomes. She bites off more than she can chew inside the time frame allotted to her,

Looks like non-pierce tech is doing a fadeout. He hasn’t called all week. He didn’t seem like a big hit, so no big whoop.

20,000 leagues under the sea – The ride. I really dig the quicktime video of the ride.. very nostalgic. I remember sitting on the fold down seats and being inside on my own, while my dad and mom went to get some ice cream or the like for my brother, who was perhaps four at the time. (that’d put me at eight-ish.) The last time I got to ride it was the summer of ’87. (when I was 18, almost a decade later.) After that, the ride was closed for renovations every time I visited. I still remember the pseudo Disney squeezebox music waiting on line… It was in my top three rides with the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Speaking of that fellow, my Bro got 2 years probation, despite the fact that he showed up at court with beer on his breath, and was saying idiot phrases like “if I’m convicted, I can’t have a gun”. I don’t know where his brains went, but they’ve long since been disbursed. I know in my heart that if his probation officer is worth anything at all, my bro will be jailed before the year is done.

I really don’t like it when reanimated corpses vomit on me, and even less so when the explosive charges inside them go off afterwards. (dang supervillains in CoH!)

Well, it looks like Chuck the Storm is going to miss my neck of the woods entirely. Power went out last night at about 1:30m, and heavy rain woke me up before knocking me back to sleep. Sorry Charlie. (how many times will I hear that in the days to come?) I hope it cuts everyone else some decent slack, too!

6802 – August? Where did last month run off to?

I’ve got to remember to drop my monthly monies in the mail to the landlord. Bro’s court date is either tomorrow, or Wednesday, I forget which. I’m sure I’ll be reminded by end of day.

I can’t believe that I’ve been at my current gig for almost a year now. Serious time compression / dilation on that side of things.

Cripes… speaking of which, I have my Monday meeting today.. there goes another few hours into the john, unless I can give my update, and bug out.

I’m rather groggy… yesterday’s rainstorm put me in some sort of precipitation and cat-snuggle coma for a longer span of time that I needed to sleep. I fell into a deep slumber surrounded by the sounds of water hitting windows and roof, much rolling thunder, and Newt-purrs.

I’m really glad that the pro-wrestling trend has again retreated back into the seedy, tacky corner it came from. Now, I can cope with the wacky stuff like Luchadores and Midget Wresting (or best of all, a joining of the two), but the mainstream WWF/WWE/WWwhatever was just boring and invasive. I haven’t felt this good about something not bombarding my media since Clive Barker faded from view.

Ok, this is probably a rental, but I’d love to see a movie with thunderbirds-type puppets doing satire on the big screen, too. Team America – World Police
