8467 –

Mom brought over some furniture from a house she sold… pretty nice, a computer desk, chair, printer stand and a low bookshelf. She’ll be coming by sometime this week to take care of a few issues before they zip off to VA for a few months. One of which is my will – disposition of my loot and Newt in the event of my kicking the bucket. (Hers is all set up now… I’m the executor, should something happen to both her and her husband.)

Kevin Smith talks about Superman – From the college lecture DVD An Evening with Kevin Smith, which is pretty great storytelling from an engaging speaker even if you’re not a huge fan of his movies.

8443 – Synced and then edited from palm

On my way to work yesterday morning, I discovered that a person walking on the courtyard path (me) can easily see into the third-story condos just by looking up, with head level. I also learned that at least one of my elderly neighbors watches tv at 6:20am without a shirt and probably pants – with the shades open. I continued my journey to the bus stop, determined not to keep my gaze earthbound the rest of he way, despite the perils early on.

Gray Day – No Sky or Sun

A monochrome twilight followed shortly after, no absolute black or white, but a nice variety of the range between grew more visible as the sun lifted past the horizon.(I assume, for the direct light lay blocked by thick mats of sky cotton.) More than a few squadrons of birds were in the air, one of which seemed to be missing two members. Rather than a symmetrical V-formation, they were cruising as a giant “check mark” – five birds, three in diagonal line to the right and rear of the lead bird, and just one to the left rear. Either two birds were missing, or one of the guys on the right didn’t like lefty’s breath or missed his takeoff cue.

Plainclothes security gave me a minor chastisement over taking pictures in k-mart. He questioned what was up, and Dan explained to him that I’m just a hobbyist who likes to take pictures of things. (this case, gardening equipment that struck me as “villager armory, in case of Frankenstein”. I got similar low-end flak from security at tri-rail last weekend. (not that he stopped me from taking some in a more covert style)

K-mart guy seemed to be interested in just enforcing the rules, while Wackenhut-boy was a bit more spazzy-zealous in his endeavors. I was much more likely to obey k-man, as a result. rattle a baton at me and it just makes me more resistant.

8410 – Ah, good. Friday, is it? Right.

ECN hooked me up with a side-gig for a website for her boss. That might make for a nice couple of hundred bucks in the next week or two – probably for about 2 or 3 days worth of work over the weekends in my downtime. I can cope with that. I’ve had quite a dry spell in that department since the grove shut down.

Looking forward to doing a little writing this weekend, too. I’m long out of practice, and I’m due to get back on the wagon again. I’ve been fooling with a new mystery-type idea, so I’ll see how well I can work that up into a few thousand words, give or take.

Set up Newtcam on Big Brain…That should eliminate all the random hang-ups lappie-cam was causing. If all goes well, I may experiment with streaming video again soon. As it is, I’m testing out an “autozoom” feature of the newest version of Where’s James webcam… we’ll see how it looks.

8396 – Wehd-nehz-day.

I stayed home from work yesterday… but Dan came by to visit after 5pm – we checked out Lord of the Rings Online.. signed up for the Beta. Helped Danny figure out what sort of machine he’d need to play it, graphics-wise and such. No movie or Japanese foodies.

After sniffing out gaming tech online, we played pirates (see icon) – each of us won a game, and both were very close. I had superior firepower, he had speed on his side. Ramming and boarding were actually to my benefit for the first time ever playing the game.

I gave him a Rubyred Labs T-shirt as a victory gift from my valleyschwag pack. (I kept the stickers and perplexCity cards) Newt got along with Danny quite well, save for when Dan drew first blood in the pirates game… he exclaimed “BLAM!” quite loudly, and Newt leapt up on the table and yelled at him, and took a swabby-paw swat at his face. I swear, Newt’s more of a watchdog than a scaredy-cat.

After playing, we decided to stretch our legs, and yawns came in a rapid collection of waves… hard to guess what caused it. I think I yawned about 25 times in rapid succession… to the point where I got a little light-headed. Danny followed suit shortly afterward, though he only yawned about four or five times.

We went upstairs to the snack bar, but Target had no coffee, so we hit *$ on the way back. He bought me a pirate booster, so now I have a corsair and an American Ship… plus a Corsair guy that can create temporary fog banks with smoke bombs– not a bad addition to my current fleet of British, Spanish and pirate folks.

Dan’s shirt had a mermaid on it, but is no relation to the Feegee Mermaid. Yucka! – His shirt was more of one of these.(far more cute than feegee)

Going to grab a bite and visit with Tina today after work… should be a jim-dandy time. Perhaps we’ll swing by Dicey Rileys, too. I suspect Eddie Izzard is out, but I’m sure we can keep a steady stream of enjoyable banter going. I’m not used to having things happening outside of the HQ on “school nights”. It’s a refreshing change of venue.

Moment of Lyric – mp3

When your world is full of strange arrangements
And gravity won’t pull you through
You know you’re missing out on something
Well that something depends on you

All I’m saying, it takes a lot to love you
All I’m doing, you know its true
All I mean now, theres one thing
Yes one thing that turns this gray sky to blue

Thats the look, thats the look
The look of love

When your girl has left you out on the pavement (goodbye)
Then your dreams fall apart at the seams
Your reason for livings your reason for leaving
Don’t ask me what it means

Who’s got the look? I don’t know the answer to that question
Where’s the look? if I knew I would tell you
What’s the look? look for your information
Yes there’s one thing, the one thing that still holds true

(whats that? )

Thats the look, thats the look
The look of love

If you judge a book by the cover,
Then you’d judge the look by the lover
I hope you’ll soon recover,
Me I go from one extreme to another

And though my friends just might ask me
They say Martin maybe one day you’ll find true love
I say maybe, there must be a solution
To the one thing, the one thing, we can’t find

Thats the look, thats the look
Sisters and brothers
Should help each other
Oh, oh, oh

Heavens above
Thats the look, thats the look, hip hip hooray, ay
Thats the look, thats the look, yippee ai yippee aiay
Thats the look, thats the look
Be lucky in love
Look of love

The Monkey Chow diaries

Imagine going to the grocery store only once every 6 months. Imagine paying less than a dollar per meal. Imagine never washing dishes, chopping vegetables or setting the table ever again. It sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

But can a human subsist on a constant diet of pelletized, nutritionally complete food like puppies and monkeys do? For the good of human kind,I’m about to find out. On June 3, 2006, I began my week of eating nothing but monkey chow: “a complete and balanced diet for the nutrition of primates, including the great apes.”

Hmm.. note the chow info page mentions *NON HUMAN PRIMATES*

Ingredients
Ground corn, Soybean meal, Cracked wheat, Sucrose,Wheat germ meal, Animal fat (preserved with BHA, propyl gallate and citric acid), Dried whole egg, Dicalcium phosphate, Calcium carbonate, Iodized salt,Vegetable oil, Choline chloride, Stabilized ascorbic acid (source of Vitamin C), Ethoxyquin (a preservative), Ferrous sulfate, Zinc oxide, Copper chloride, Manganous oxide, Cobalt carbonate, Calcium iodate, Sodium selenite,Vitamin A supplement,Vitamin D3 supplement,Vitamin E supplement, Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Niacin, Calcium pantothenate, Pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic acid, Biotin,Vitamin B12 supplement.

1 lb of chow per 35 lbs of monkey? Man… that’s a lot of food!

Was supposed to get together with Kev after work, but it didn’t work out. Tonight it is! Taking care of some old business and hanging out before he heads for Guantanamo Bay.

Adopt Sea Turtles for Mother’s Day!

A mother sea turtle will travel thousands of miles to move from feeding areas to mating areas and then to her preferred beach to lay her eggs.

It is a long crawl up the sandy beach where she makes her nest before she swims back to sea. Wouldn’t your mom travel such great lengths for you as well? This Mother’s Day, show her how much you appreciate all she’s done for you with an adoption of a sea turtle from WWF’s Online Adoption Center.

Second life has been running slow as molasses lately.. no packet loss so I’m a bit befuddled about the slowdown.

8313 – Friday. Finally.

Wow, do I hate to iron, especially first thing in the morning. Makes me a big ol’ grumpy scottosaurus. I think I’m going to ask Fatima how much she’d charge to do a few shirts and pants. I’m just not so great at taking care of those.

Swung by a pawnshop on the way home, just to eyeball what people were selling… picked up 3 dvds for $15. Buckaroo Bonsai (Special Edition), A Monty Python TV series Dvd (contains the Deja vu, silly walks and spanish inqusition episodes), and True Romance.

Crashed right out when I got home. Played a bit with the Newtster, ate a sammich, fell asleep. Not bad, but I’d have liked to do more. Read, play SL, or the like.

Seriously considering getting a short haircut for summer. I need to look up the “donate hair to kids” places.

8301 – Good… Saturday?

Dreamt that I was in Disney world chasing a shape-shifting Newton. Hippo, Crocodile, Puma, then Newt, depending on the tone of voice I was using to call to him, and what part of the magic kingdom we were in… mostly Haunted Mansion / Tiki Birds region. He seemed to stick with changing into other animals, but was always recognizable by me, somehow. I finally caught him at Pirates of the Caribbean, on the island with the impaled skeleton. (where the seagull is sitting).

Went with Danny out to Masamune, my first time there. The food was superb. I’d have to say the spicy tofu appetizer was the best I’ve ever had. I’ll be going back pretty frequently, I suspect. I also had a cucumber roll, salad and tempura veggies. It was nice to have about 5 hours with Danny for the first time in an age.. he picked me up at work, did some shopping (I got a new UPS battery at the Depot, and he got a DVD at Barnes & Noble -The Quest for Fire.

Outside was a weird security tower/siege machine looking gizmo.

It seats one inside, has a light flasher on top, wind gauge, speakers on all sides, and can be elevated to about four stories or so. it seats one, and has a nice air conditioning unit on top, a swell as very dark-tinted windows. I wonder what purpose it serves in the parking lot? Some sort event there later?

We got to catch up.. I’m glad things are going quite a bit better for him and Jan, for the most part.

Freaky, sinister seeming Easter tradition in Spain – processions in classic pre-inquisition Christian garb.

Too bad we don’t do this here, but I suppose some folks would confuse ’em for Klansmen.
