6850 – Monday, like a bean burrito, has returned.

Hmm, last night’s JLU was cute, but I wasn’t crazy about B’wana Beast’s or Zatanna’s portrayal, though it was cute to see Red Tornado, Ralph Dibney and the Crimson Avenger in cameos. (Oddly, I have no problem with the #2 detective in the DC universe plastering up flyers for a missing pig.)

The Music was excellent, but poorly placed… I’ll give the episode a 5/10. (Spiked high and low to a fair average.)

It amazes me about cost comparisons. If you get a pack of smokes at a club, it’s $8. That’s more than crack… I don’t smoke, but it amazes me how much people can get away with charging, because they know people will buy ’em. I’m glad I never got hooked on that particular vice.

Bro told me that he got into a car accident this past weekend, as a passenger. I’ve already gotten conflicting stories of who he was with, and how it happened. Last night it was a guy driving, today it was a she. My guess is that was with some of his dumbass friends and doesn’t want to ‘fess up.

Still have my earache this morning (since Midday Sat), stretching from ear canal to jaw-hinge on my right side. I’m waiting for a tech to get to work, so I can remove myself from being on call, and head to my doc. I think there might be some sort of blockage after the cold I had last week. Fortunately, Tylenol is keeping the edge off of the pain-factor.

I’m tired of Bush *and* Kerry. Both seem to suck like a reverse hurricane and neither appear big on platforms I’m fond of… specifically business, education and the environment. The only reason I’m a bit more for the Dem is that it’ll mix up the political soup a bit, and Bush has a history of not following up on the good promises. Make no mistake, I don’t like either of ’em. They’re both on the same page for a lot of things. Kerry’s ahead in that he’s pro-choice, and for gay marriage. I don’t think it’s anyone’s right to legislate that behavior, even if neither apply to me.

6803 – My land is a multi-colored land

http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/press_releases/20040802_Threat_Level.html

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Tom Ridge announced today that the threat level is being raised from Elevated-“Yellow” to High-“Orange” for the financial districts of New York City and Washington D.C. There is no specific threat to Florida and the state remains at a “Yellow” or elevated level along with the rest of the country.

“Florida remains at Yellow. The public can be confident in the fact Florida has a sound domestic security strategy and protocol in place,” said Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Guy Tunnell. “However, it is important for Florida’s citizens and visitors to be vigilant while continuing with their daily activities.”

Precautions the public can take are very similar to steps residents would take for a hurricane. They include:

  • Continue with normal activities while being aware of your surroundings. Exercise caution while traveling.
  • Be alert to suspicious activity and report it to your local law enforcement agency.
  • Develop an emergency communications and disaster plan and exercise that plan.
  • Prepare a disaster supplies kit to sustain your family for three to seven days. It should include a supply of water, food, flashlight, a battery-powered radio, and a first-aid kit.

6797 Peaches in the Summer, Apples in the Fall

Little kids in turtlenecks can be sort of creepy. Especially in the summertime.

Whirlwind days lately.. lots of work to do, pressure high. I’m dealing with it pretty well, but LH nearly quit I think.

Skinbags – gear made out of synthetic human skin. (in all sorts of shades.. black, asian, pink white, mixed, and Tattoo personalization : name, sentence, logo)

Oh, I really rather think the aprons are something. Yeek!

Gene Simmons sings Firestarter.

Also Yeek. I wonder if he’s a real doofus, of if his public life is another Andrew Dice Clay act?

This whole touch screen thing makes Florida look like it *wants* to be guilty of more voter drama.

My sensitivities to my environment are out of whack a little bit, today. I feel numb to some things, and overly aware of others. Every hair on my right arm seems to be a high-powered sensor.

Want to listen to my station?

I’ve been using launch radio, calendar, weather, news and games a lot lately on my Y!M. Tasty little app.

oOmiaq wrote me recently, and thanked me for listening to his music. My pleasure, oOm.

Dan bailed for tonight, but we’ll probably get together tomorrow. I don’t mind, save for the short notice. I don’t really want to go to the Seminole casino on a flippin’ Friday, so that’s going to have to wait. I’m not sure what I want to do for my solo Saturday walkabout, yet. That Moonlight movie is that night… that could be a fun time. Maybe I’ll hit Port Everglades during the day, and see if I can spot some free-swimming manatees or turtles. I found out after my recent trip to Miami that there’s a natural calving / nursery area there.

Maybe tonight I’ll hit the Museum ‘f Art. It’s free until the end of August, just up the street, open until 9pm on Thursdays, and air-conditioned.

I’m not really fond of Monday’s week-start review meetings. it takes hours, and isn’t as productive as I’d like. At least I usually get to give my presentation first, and then bail. I have a lot of stuff to get out of the way this morning, to boot.

Strong sweet tooth lately… not sure why I’m craving it so much. It’s not like my body is in need of raspberry sugar for proper functioning.

I have a case of wanderlust, and as soon as I get the new tech fully worked out, I’m certainly going to take a trip. I just have to decide the duration and destinations.

I didn’t know until yesterday that Ray Bradbury has been wheelchair-bound since his stroke in ’99. Or if I did, I forgot that I did.

His short story, A Sound of Thunder has been made into a movie… (previews)

It seems the movie takes the introduction and runs with it, probably not in the direction that I want to see, let alone the message.

Speaking of Movies, I really don’t see how the studios could improve on The Manchurian Candidate. Someone tell me what the new Gulf War version has to do with Manchuria ? (The Original was based on the Korean war… thus the title.)

I don’t know which Private Eye is the most definitive to me… Lew Archer, Richard Diamond, Sam Spade, or Philip Marlowe. Digging Archer right now, because I just finished The Drowning Pool. (the first time I’ve read it since my days at the BBCL) I’ve never seen the movie, but wouldn’t mind checking it out, now that the tale is fresh in my mind.

6786 – politics, monsters, training

Brother, can you spare a job? A cartoon in classic old style, featuring narrative audio by GWB.

Want to know where I currently stand, politically, dear journal? Well, it’s like this.

The “anyone but Bush” mindset is one I can’t support. I know that I certainly don’t much care for the man… But is Kerry any better? Every time I hear him speak, my opinion of him drops. His only selling point to my mind right now is “well, he’s not Bush”. That’s not valid enough. Is he going to do anything for the environment? I haven’t heard. Stance on big business? I don’t know, for sure. Is he really the lesser of two evils… I don’t have enough quantitative evidence to know. If I played the odds and was forced to pick, it’s *likely* that Kerry’s a better guy, just because Bush’s policies are horrid to my mind… but likely isn’t good enough. I’d like to know one way or the other.

All I’ve seen so far is “Nyah-nyah” crap debate, and it makes me unhappy with any choice that can be made.

Will I vote? Oh yeah. Will I adore who I vote for? Oh, no.

New Citizens Say GOP Took Away Their Right To Choose

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dario Cruz has lived in the United States for 16 years, but just became a citizen last week as he and about 200 other immigrants were naturalized.

One of the things he had always wanted to was register to vote, but when he was offered the chance to do that right outside the ceremony, he knew something wasn’t right — the place on the form where you’re asked to choose Democrat, Republican or independent was already filled out.
