6852 – blah, blah, blah

I don’t know why, but I got the urge to make a cartoon out of Newt talking.
(no doubt he’s making fun of how pointless many of my entries are.)

I’m really looking forward to The Incredibles.

Good team. A stretchy, a brick, a speedster, invisi-forcefields, ice… looks like what little I’ve seen is well-written, too.

Dear M. Night Shyamalan,

It seems you can’t make a good movie without Bruce Willis. Call him back for the next flick you make. I loved 6th sense, and Unbreakable.

Signs and The Village, while having good bits in the middle at times, had poo endings.

Turn Gmail storage into a mountable file system

GmailFS provides a mountable Linux file system which uses your Gmail account as its storage medium. GmailFS is a Python application and uses the FUSE userland file system infrastructure to help provide the file system, and libgmail to communicate with Gmail.

GmailFS supports most file operations such as read, write, open, close, stat, symlink, link, unlink, truncate and rename. This means that you can use all your favorite Unix command line tools to operate on files stored on Gmail (e.g. cp, ls, mv, rm, ln, grep etc. etc.).

Cool.

Woo! I got my check from Google Adsense! Good deal, I wasn’t totally ripped off, after all. A lot of little financial windfalls lately!

Mike from Satan’s Laundromat photographs Critical Mass bicycle riders getting arrested Friday night and finds himself arrested and in jail overnight.

“they suddenly decided to start making arrests without warning, penning people in and arresting entire blocks’ worth of people, including hapless tourists and people getting off work who just happened to be in the area watching. And they couldn’t have been bothered to clean the diesel sludge off the floor of the holding pens where they made us sleep? Someone will pay.”

I hope *somebody* catches hell for that.

I’m glad to see that Cap’n Pete in Disney’s Three Musketeers cartoon has gone back to having a peg leg. Of course, the novel itself is public domain and available online. (you can always download and print it out if you prefer text on dead trees.)

It’s also the origin of GrayPumpkin & Katt’s little cow-kitty’s name. D’Art! (The first Kitty I was ever really social with.)

Hmm… Hurricane Frances travel projection looks like it’s headed this way, around midday Saturday. A lot can happen over the course of a week, but I’d wager it’ll hit the states *somewhere*.

Current Plot

6851 – follow-up

Back from the doc’s, got a scrip for oral antibiotics, as well as ear drops. Insurance didn’t cover 1000s, so it took the pharm/doctor/insurance company triad about 3 hours to decide to give me two generic 500s instead.

Total time spent seeking treatment and meds – 7 hours, and $60. Am I going to complain? Nah, not too much… things are a lot worse for people with serious illnesses.

Also, I’ve gained 3 pounds back in the last 2 months… got to refocus on the diet again.

I’m home for 3.5 minutes, and HQ calls me for tech issues. Nice to be indispensable, I guess.

That’s done now, so I can get a modicum of rest. Maybe I’ll take tomorrow “off”, too.

Nighty night, dear journal.

6848 – Saturday

Just sitting tight with my ol’ book by the phone, doing the ol’ on-call thing this weekend.

A few of the cases so far –

A child was hit by a car, unconscious, and I launched some notifications looking for his guardians in the area. I hope to hear good news on that follow-up.

A bad news kid from Apache, this was the last time he can take off… next time he’ll be considered habitual, and alerts won’t go out.

Autistic in Michigan… got to wake up the neighborhood at 2am to go look for him. I’m glad it was a Friday, rather than a work-week night. That’ll keep grumpies to a minimum.

MTV Video Music awards in Miami this weekend… I confess to a little curiosity, and some disappointment that I can’t go on photo safari… the upside is that I don’t have to worry about traffic, or bumping into Paris Hilton or Pauly Shore.

Make your own Batphone (indirectly from Batfriend. cool opening.)

Sometimes I feel this way about the blogs that I read.

6845 Well, no walkabout for me anytime soon.

Ugh, on call all weekend. Friday night through Monday morning. I hope absolutely nothing happens. Slim odds, but anything’s possible.

Mail: Good news and bad news.

Good News, got my plastic man archives.

Bad News, A gift pouch I sent out in November was just returned to me as unclaimed.(they checked on 12/3, 7/12, and 8/20. back to me it came… I wonder if they put it in the wrong box?) I’m going to have to call up, and see what I can do about reshipping it out again, and add a few more fun trinkets to the mix.

Hmm, GrayPumpkin showed me this rumor about a new Aquaman movie sounds a bit like a wet match in a dark cave. I still think Owen Wilson would make a better Iron Fist. I’m not sure who’d make a good Luke Cage.

August is flying by. It seems that I mark time with checks for rent. I hope that next weekend will be a good one for condo-questing. Speaking of which, nice house… keen view on the third pic, too. (via tarpo)

6844 – Thursday, Thursday

Big Kahuna is off to Ohio and Georgia this week, Mutt & Jeff are in Michigan. I hope it’s going to be a quiet week. I won’t be sharing an office with LH in a week.. I need the space to train techs, and quiet to to my gig properly… and she can’t work inside my bubble, either. So, she’s off to the front-office with the fax machine and binders.

just got a comment in an entry from March 2001. interesting to see all of the users that commented way back when. I don’t see most of them very often, if at all any more. funny to see all the win98 and win Me machines back then.

something in lj broke my 7/26/04 and 7/21 entries… the system reworked my image tags. I’m not crazy about that at all.

Dan didn’t seem to crazy about my insinuation that a lot of his behavior wasn’t healthy the other day. I’m more of a “moderation in all things, including moderation / do what it takes to get the job done” sort of guy, while he’s a “do the best job that you can on absolutely everything, even if it means fading out from exhaustion / ignoring any deadlines” sort. I feel both viewpoints have merit, I just value my health more than the vast majority of projects.

3 years ago – that piercing woman , lj vibe change, many links (not all work anymore)

4 years ago – Godzilla, quizzes, leftyrok added me, IMT threatens to move all operations north to Tampa, dean martin

6834 – Robot doubles, drunken bears and Halloween costumes.

More than a little peeved that my tech on call last night (ADP) lacked the skill or interest in calling tech support over a computer issue last night. If she’s not careful, her hours will drop to one night a week, or less. For whatever reason, she lacks the ability to follow procedures written down for her.

Creepy thing about Kal-El . Robot Doubles

6833- Don’t bother to burn an X in my head, I’m already dead.

Called in sick today- I’m totally wiped out.

If they need anything urgent, I can launch it remotely… the rest of my time is going to be spent in or around bed.

Some evil Aztec sorcerer is messing with my digestive tract, and is drying out my skin. Or maybe it’s a side effect of Disney World’s weather control device used to relocate Charley.

I wonder if it’s true that prehistoric burial involved putting a corpse in the ground so that it could be reborn, like a plant, or if it was just a method of cleanup… having bodies just laying around can’t be terribly sanitary.

6828 – Alabama

We’re in Tuskaloosa, Alabama for 10 minutes, and already I have a case.

Missing 8-year old boy… left for school, and wasn’t on the bus when it arrived.

I hope he just missed the ride, or is playing hooky. I do know that there’s a sexual predator with a history of pedophilia two and a half miles from where the boy was last seen.

sexual predator info-

http://www.dps.state.al.us/public/abi/system/so/details.asp?id=3525

missing kid is a black male, 4′, 75lbs, brown eyes, black hair, wearing a red, gray, black top, black shorts w/white stripe, b/w shoes, black blu pack. been missing since 8:50am Central.

The org’s already placed nearly 20,000 calls looking for him.

[edit – Kid returned home safely, he took the bus to the wrong special ed school. Happy ending all around. ]

6827 – I don't smoke cigarettes.

Big Kahuna’s in Alabama all this week, opening the state to local law enforcement.

I may be going out to a late lunch with oneeyed and crew after work.I wonder where a good place to dine might be? Some Options

I woke up *voracious*… I could devour a pile of waffles right now.

Found another subset of NOAA’s site, this time it’s South Florida Specific.

Recently re-discovered the lightning strike site, too – Strikes within the last 3 seconds will appear as a yellow bolt. Older strikes will appear as mostly red and blue dots. The smaller the dots, the older the strike. Red and blue indicates cloud-to-ground strokes. Lavender and purple indicates cloud-to-cloud strokes. The display typically reflects a total of the last 20 minutes activity for any given period.

FEMA has now declared 25 counties in Florida as disaster areas. That’s good news for those victims further inland. Aid will be more readily available for the rebuilding efforts.

Storms rolled through central Florida this afternoon – 2000+ lightening strikes recorded in an hour with more than 3” of rain in spots. According to local news additional rain will coming in off of the gulf in the Punta Gorda & North Port areas now.

They are expecting to put a figure to the fatalities in Lee County sometime tomorrow. One optimistic thing is that many people in the hardest hit areas had left for the summer, so it is possible the number will be lower than expected.

The Bradenton Herald is a very good source for information.

The Red Cross is still requesting monetary contributions and that information can be found HERE. They are still the quickest way to get water, food, shelter and comfort to the victims.

As a petty / karmic redemption side note, I hope that this disaster milks every penny out of the evil, evil, evil Liberty Mutual company.

Photos of Disney World preparations, and post-storm Hurricane Charley. (I’m surprised they didn’t just cover the park with a big plastic dome topped with mouse ears.) Interesting to see all the hanging signs tethered in place. (The last thing anyone needs is to be impaled by a flying bit of Jungle Cruise sign.) He’s got other nifty shots, too… like the construction of Expedition Everest.

I’d like to have this as a Disclaimer all around my property. (for web-cam usage)

It strikes me as funny that people don’t think of Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Egypt as Oriental. It’s not called the Middle East for nothing, y’know. I wonder if Arabs were *ever* referred to as “Orientals” in the old days, before that term was made politically incorrect? I still Figure myself to be an “Occidental“.. “The Orient” is a much niftier term than “Eastern Lands.”

6821 Friday, Friday… Friday the 13th.

The closer the time comes for the big kahuna to leave town, the more irritable and stressed she becomes. She bites off more than she can chew inside the time frame allotted to her,

Looks like non-pierce tech is doing a fadeout. He hasn’t called all week. He didn’t seem like a big hit, so no big whoop.

20,000 leagues under the sea – The ride. I really dig the quicktime video of the ride.. very nostalgic. I remember sitting on the fold down seats and being inside on my own, while my dad and mom went to get some ice cream or the like for my brother, who was perhaps four at the time. (that’d put me at eight-ish.) The last time I got to ride it was the summer of ’87. (when I was 18, almost a decade later.) After that, the ride was closed for renovations every time I visited. I still remember the pseudo Disney squeezebox music waiting on line… It was in my top three rides with the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Speaking of that fellow, my Bro got 2 years probation, despite the fact that he showed up at court with beer on his breath, and was saying idiot phrases like “if I’m convicted, I can’t have a gun”. I don’t know where his brains went, but they’ve long since been disbursed. I know in my heart that if his probation officer is worth anything at all, my bro will be jailed before the year is done.

I really don’t like it when reanimated corpses vomit on me, and even less so when the explosive charges inside them go off afterwards. (dang supervillains in CoH!)

Well, it looks like Chuck the Storm is going to miss my neck of the woods entirely. Power went out last night at about 1:30m, and heavy rain woke me up before knocking me back to sleep. Sorry Charlie. (how many times will I hear that in the days to come?) I hope it cuts everyone else some decent slack, too!

The Horny toad is not a toad. It’s a Lizard.

6820 – Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

My head is just bouncing around topics this morning.

Random stuff, all, undivided by the hr-tag I use so much these days:

I used to get Lea Thompson and Ally Sheedy mixed up. Same goes for Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

I think the whole thing about dark matter / dark energy seems unlikely.

I could never remember the name of Doug Wu’s friend Tony who gamed with us as Silver Hammer, until I realized it was like the two main characters on Time Tunnel. Doug is in Seattle now, and Tony was lost to the social cult of Amway.

Some poor woman was trapped in the building’s elevator yesterday. I got to try and talk calmly to her and keep her from freaking out until the fire department arrived. That office space has the same stuff since the 50’s… It reminded me of when my sweetheart nearly got her arm bitten off by a carnivator in her old office spacer.

I did my apheresis (Plateletpheresis) yesterday, for the first time in a long while… it feels really good perform a charity while laying on a couch and watching cartoons.

I have terrible night vision.

I have a high threshold of pain, but once you pass it, I’m done.

Rhode Island plays with a pair of crystals (amethyst and quartz) as a form of nervous fidget. I can’t help but think of Queeg’s ball bearings in The Caine Mutiny whenever I hear her clacking them together.

1 year ago – Neverwhere, childhood memories circa ’74-75ish – lunch and Tonka toys, linked to hulk’s blog, bro stuff, Elvis & his prosthetic limb factory

2 years ago – Spanish TV, broken links, new he-man cartoon, mark quits FMM before he’s caught stealing, puppy pictures and palm doodles.

3 years ago – Soylent Green Tea Ice Cream at the Frieze in Miami, after seeing Kiss of the Dragon with my bro, cavort, first exp w/ Samurai Jack, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

4 years ago – saw the hollow man movie, and played Everway, day before sleep study.

Oh, I can’t resist. Some HR goodness. until later, dear journal.
