Looking into A Child is Missing. It looks like they do really good work, helping the police during the first few hours of the disappearance of a child / elderly / disabled person. They’re funded by donations and government grants. The home base is only about 2 miles from my apartment, too.

Sakes… what a little celebrity gossip-mongering list this is. Newest stuff in blue…Like all gossip, I’m sure it’s best taken with a grain of salt. Maybe a whole salt lick. (Orson Welles possibly the Black Dahlia Murderer?)

Omniglot: A Guide to Writing Systems -For fun stuff, see the alternative writing systems, including alphabets from Fantasy and Science Fiction. See your name in assorted systems.

Metacritic is a ratings accumulator not unlike Rotten Tomatoes (except that it covers music as well as film, videro/dvd, and games). Gigli is currently at 19, and falling, or “Overwhemiing Dislike and/or Disgust.” (0-19 is the lowest possible score range, out of 100) Right now, Rotten Tomatoes has Gigli at an average rating of 2.6/10, with only one positive review out of the 59 accrued so far. A decent movie is considered 60% or better… the current list is 2%.

Non-castaways on Gilligan’s Island Master List

Sleepy Morning.

Mildly sore throat today, fell asleep without the CPAP on, and as a snoring result, my uvula is a bit swollen. Lovely sleepy time this morn.

I hope that the Mother got to talk with the Brother. I’ll know by this evening.

Happy 227th birthday, USA! Happy Saint Elizabeth of Portugal Day!

I heartily recommend reading the Declaration of Independence. It’s brief, and has a good vibe to it.

Hm… Net meeting was supposed to start at 10am… but nobody seems to be around. I waited until 11, and then sent out an email to the bosses asking if there is a time that we can reschedule for. I have to be at physical therapy by 1:30. (Which I’d forgotten about until my pop-up reminder this morning.) I hope that they missed the meeting due to some groundbreaking discovery that’ll make us all a gazillion dollars.

Golden grahams with marshmallow fudge are not the best breakfast, and it was so rich I could only eat about a 1/2 ounce of it with my cereal. Smores-y good. . I think that riblets will be supper tonight… a little high in sodium, but delicious and otherwise very healthy. Lunch, I don’t know…maybe some green beans and enchiladas. Those things are yummo!

Users on the cartman cluster will be unable to update their journals as we work to repair it. You can find the cluster you are on here. Hm.. It think that’s the first time in local memory that it wasn’t the chef cluster (my cluster)

Talking to Ray, I hear that Austin is supposed to be some sort of Mecca of sanity in the Madness that is Texas. (A large University Town?) Maybe I can get Juliabee to elaborate.

My creepy neighbor commented on stuff that I throw in the dumpster. It’s really none of his business that I like to eat much the same thing every week. Pretty weird that he noticed cans of peas and green beans.

a year ago – wonderful dreams, learning the neighborhood, notes never followed up on.

two years ago – saw Ornj off on her trip, bro’s got a win 95 box, monkey fishing a fib, due amici sub, leaves of grass, database link access to web, Kneel before zod!

three years ago -nuthin’.

Tomorrow morning is the net meeting with the big boys at the office re: the booth management system. I think they’ll be pleased with the result, though I have some work left to polish it up and make it shine.

[edit] Well, crap. I was synchronizing it to the main server (I thought) and it turns out that I’ve downloaded a much older version over my new one. It looks like I’ve lost like a week or two’s worth of work, though it should be much faster to reconstruct rather than redesign. I sent an email off to Mark, and I hope he understands. Crap. That’ll teach me not to save with version numbers, and not to make extra backups elsewhere on my system.

Bro and I got a postcard from Mom in Sweden today, and I need to get that to the bro for his collection. He’s been very good about calling and checking in with me lately, so I know he’s got work and a place to stay.

Earlier, Ray reminded me of my first big superhero character, Trism. Abducted by aliens at Grover’s mill, he was experimented on as a way for humans to develop “true movement” or teleportation. Mental blank, returned in the 90’s (unaged) with only the haziest memories of the event. Got to play the “1940’s sensibility, 60 years later” He wasn’t a racist or ignorant though. He was the “Good old days” sort… sanitized like a cartoon character could be.

I can’t seem to remember many of Pam’s characters… she cycled through them fairly rapidly, if memory serves… testing out different disads and etc. I vaguely remember a shadow controller and a mute (I don’t think that they were one in the same, but it’s possible.). There seems to be an echo of witty banter in the back of my mind, but it’s a haze. The other, more regular characters are stronger in my mind… Like Magneta’s multiple personalities, (some stored on a chip… I do remember liking the one on the chip rather than the vigilante’s actual mind), the giant powerhouse with his bomb on the roof,

Kyoko was nifty… the proto-ghost. She could make parts of her body desolid, and just do martial arts with solid hands and feet. (That didn’t work well when caught in an area effect blast, mind you.) Leroy, the one-handed Danny Glover sidekick was something, as was the New-age store proprietor Mandy, who was quickly glommed onto as a romantic interest.

After doing a quick search on my journal for Trism, I pulled up an entry from about a year back, regarding the Colinas and my fandom of same, as well as the rest of that gang. I fairly gushed about them a year ago. I’m glad I’m getting a chance to be friends again.

6:29 am trying the later launch…the extra 30 of sleep is a good thing, i know that. Up a bit later tonight because of D and Ciara’s birthday party at the fibber island annex (Polly gone mad)

6:48 am this is the crunch time- to get there by 7. I’m assured that it is, though I’ll be more comfortable once confirmed.

7:01 am made it, just enough time to buy a ticket and hop on. Contact HR about the discount program. Also, pick up shampoo, TP and petty cash on the way home. This week, get another pair of pants, 2 pr. Socks,2 shirts, underwear. Dreamt last night of losing a tooth… All that was left shaped like a moth’s. Wing made of enamel. It was sore but not painful.

7:53 am in with time to spare, even though the cab from the train station didn’t take plastic, so we had to side track to a nearby ATM. Brett and Jeff both came in shortly after me…. good to see early starters!

12:17 pm at the hospital. I tripped over a power cord, landed on my left knee, and managed to further knock my back out of whack.

12:42 pm just had a fit of hysteria from being strapped down for the last 2 hours. My nose is now full of mucus, and i can’t get any tissues. I hate this. I want out now. At least my arms are free, but i still feel trapped here.

2:05 pm out of radiology… Unstrapped at last. Waiting now for what i assume is a shot of an anti-inflammatory.

2:17 pm no shot? Just a prescription for vicodin and a referral to another doctor. Good grief. The referral is for a Delray doctor…I’m also not to report back to work until Monday. I need to Call Donna (xt 102?) re: workman’s comp docs

4:04 pm waited about 2 hours for a cab to the tri-rail… Gave up, went to the bus stop, and got ride there in under 5 minutes. Lesson learned? F yellow cab in Delray Beach and hooray for palm tran.

4:28 pm boo for tri-rail’s 20-minute tardy train and ticket machine that can neither read my visa card, and gives 17.25 in change back to me in Susan b Anthony dollars.

4:39 pm “boarding in approximately 10 minutes ”

4:51 pm aboard. Hm. Days like this (Years like this) make me disbelieve in a “non- reincarnation” one-life karma. I will admit that 2000-now has been mostly great. January 2003-now has been mostly poor save for a few delightful bright spots. I foresee more good than bad in the year to come. A new job, some new friends, and good thoughts are there.

6:04 home! Cute kids on the train… entertaining teens on the way home from school. I found out the mystery package is a returned Christmas box I sent mid-December. I wonder now if all the Valentine’s Day prezzies made it?

D’oh! I left my camera at work! How’d I do that? It must’ve been because I had my handspring in my pocket. Looks like Bonbon spawn#2 got a talking to for drag racing on company time…not to mention Buddha, Sissy-Greg, and Buddha2 got in trouble for sleeping on the job. Second time in two days. I’m *very* surprised they didn’t get fired… just a suspension for a day.

Wachovia now has my proof of residence… I’m probably going to get a call tomorrow, confirming that I can open the account.

One of my dollars made it to Scottsdale Arizona! Ito only took 2 yrs, 238 days, 22 hrs, 19 min to get there… traveled 1963 miles (or an average of 2 miles a day)

I registered years ago with Where’s George, and forgot about it about six months later. I registered maybe a dozen bills, and grew bored when none came back. Now that I’ve finally gotten some confirmation, I’ll start registering more, just to see where it goes. I think that I first found out about Where’s George via Ana cam, just like I found LiveJournal, though I haven’t really been to Ana cam in ages. Danny still has a T-shirt from her site somewhere… it’s a great shirt.

I’ve just found an interesting element of the magic levitation rules…Dave’s going to get it, next time we play. Mage knight rules stuff

Good news… We’re switching insurance companies at last…and the dental is staying as is. I got a refund on my aflack I discontinued the service, but they never stopped pulling it from my paycheck. All better now! Posted an update to the automatic writing thing in the original entry… I heartily recommend anyone being a member there leave before the association is made. (well, perhaps that’s too harsh. I just think that the moderator there is a bee-itch.)

Picture of my bike on the front of the route 60 cut because of friend’s list deformation

If Zombies walked the earth, I’d wear a helmet.

Erica came by tonight with Bailey, so that he and Dexter could run around and play, while she caught us up on what’s new in her life… work/school/dance pretty much. She mentioned that she’s looking for an after-hours job…I don’t know how she can handle that sort of workload… you’d think that she’d like four free hours a week to rest and recover. I suspect that she’s tight for money right now, though.

Picture of Dexter And Bailey tonight, after hours

finn spotted my and sappho’s entry regarding her being annoying here – (the entry is friends-only now.) strangely, she let us know in a weirdly passive-agressive way. She posted a reply, and then came into karen’s office to let us know that she wrote a reply, but didn’t confront us in any way. Instead we spoke about livejournal and puppies.

I went in and smoothed things over with the Finn… turns out that sappho blabbed my aim to karen to diana, and it got back to the finn again… another breach of security.

What’s the plural of Strega? Strege? Streghe? Italian? Albanian?

last day of the 9-5 deal.

just as well… I hope that there’s a minimum of nonsense today. I’d like to get some things done without having to run them twice or four times due to technological troubles.

Something out of a sci-fi magazine… a news story about rocket belts, intrigue, and jealous murder. Yeah, Rocket belts!

Not feeling too talkative….(typeative), and I’ve got to head off to work. until later, dear journal.

Back home from work… network was extra bonus fubarred today, plus the profiles were all rewritten again. I hope that this is the last time… Poor Sappho came in early and was still harried by the general populace to “fixitfixitfixit”. I left her alone today, as I had plenty of work to do myself…. Island Boy’s work isn’t hard, but it’s certainly an addition to my current load. I’ll be happier once I can return to my own projects and concerns.

Going to make some english muffin pizzas for supper… easy and quick, plus, they’re tasty!

I hope everyone had a nice birthday / unbirthday / indigenous people’s day / Chinese discovery day / Leif Erickson Day / Columbus Day / Thanksgiving / Monday Mine was good, but busy. I barely tasted lunch, and I ate it at about 3:30. My Senses narrow when I’m focusing…a degree of tunnel vision.

Newt’s certainly delighted that I’m home! He’s all nuzzy and purry. 🙂

According to the GPS… When I’m at “casual touring” speed, I bike at ~8.5 mph. when I’m in boogie-crank mode, I go at ~14.4… not much different… but I go about 4x my walking speed on wheels.

Know what? I’m glad they’ve never made a “Beetlejuice II” movie, Though I quite like the movie and Spun off Cartoon.

Hmm… Found a fun little time-sucker called I Used To Believe.com. It’s a collection of all those childhood ideas we once thought were true. You can add your own. 🙂 Looks like a lot of kids had boogie men in the potty.

Random Scotto Factoid – Something I believed as a child… right around 4th grade or so. I formed a theory on how we die… we’re born with an exactly even balance of fortune… when the doctor smacks us into life. That’s a little bad luck to get us rolling… after that, good and bad stuff come in spurts, and we die when it’s exactly even again. I tried to figure out what some balances were…losing your last pocket change in a soda machine balances vs. finding $.50 on the ground… the trick would be to find $.51… then you’re ahead. The pendulum goes back and forth like that until the debt / credit balance is returned to zero. I no longer believe it, but still think it’s a pretty nifty idea.

A point of interest for my sweetheart…. A new study suggests people with naturally red hair need about 20 percent more anesthesia than patients with other hair colors.

Ok, tomorrow through Tuesday, I do the 9-5 gig, covering for Dale. I had to today, too… because he had to swing by the school and pick up his son for medical reasons… I don’t know how serious it is yet.

I’m going to be a busy little bee, doing my own gig and his, but it’s certainly not breaking rocks at Leavenworth. It’s good that we have redundant skill sets at work, or nobody could ever take a break.

I’ve finished part C of my sweetie’s birthday present…. I think she’ll like ’em.

Lazy Man supper tonight… junky comfort food. Irradiated bean and cheese burritos, with a gentle sprinkling of tobasco…just like the kind I ate back in college.

Hey, darktrain! Moon Pies are 100 years old! To celebrate, they’re having a Moon Pies memory contest, and the grand prize is a three day / 2 night trip to Chattanooga, TN, $1000 cash, and a tour of the factory…Heck, I’d just be happy to get a T-shirt.

100 words or less… maybe I’ll enter a couple of times, with different memories. I wonder how fanciful we can get? “The Year was 1908, and this is how my Grandma said that she used moon pies to get women the vote.” or maybe “I am Zarkon, a humble and simple time-traveler. My Memory of Moon Pies takes place four hundred years in your future, from which I have just arrived. Without your magnificent confection, the world would not exist as I know it.”
