nice chat with my sweetheart… Saxon thoughts and lots of reflection. I like when ideas provoke deeper thought.

I got my ebay auction today, but he forgot one of the parts.. I emailed him, and he’s sending it along presently… jinkies. well, at least the rest is here.

I had a relaxing lay-down… played the recorder for a bit and had some dreamy thoughts… in a little bit, I’m going to go over to my bro’s and we’re going to have a little gab. He wants to help clear the cobs… he kicked out his roomie today. (no point in having one, if they guy can’t pay his rent) I think that after clearing the air, we’re going to have cookies and play some heroclix. Good for what ails ya.

Work looks like the social-boat is going to be rocking the next few weeks… We promoted Hoi to the head of the mail shop… something he deserves. He has the ability to be seven places at once, so more power to him.

It looks like tomorrow night’s “movie in the park” is Monty Python & The Holy Grail. It’s free, so I think that’ll be a nice thing to take the bro to go see… we can pick up some slurpees and hang out. Maybe we can launch a little early and catch a bite of din din, too.

Shows coming up… All look good! if you look on my bio-page.. the sun sentinel cam. the thing that looks like a potato chip is where it’s showing.

Anyone who wants to come, and look for a big hairy hippie and his brother is welcome!

The days are getting visibly shorter lately…The sun has officially set by 8pm, and it makes reading more difficult.

Work wants me to make them a website. I don’t think I want to make one for them… I’m not sure… I guess I’ll do my best, give them something that looks like the company’s brochure, and hope for the best… it’ll be a change of duty… but somehow, I don’t want to go into doing a lot of web page design for the company…or, if I do, I want to be paid accordingly for more responsibility and a broader spectrum of skills put to use. I doubt that’ll happen. (Especially since my design sense is spartan. I’m much better at programming and keeping interfaces simple, rather than the many bells and whistles that clients might want for a website.) That’s one of those things that has very little definition, and I fear “Too many chefs” syndrome… Building a website for these guys is going to be an exercise in micromanagement and nit-pickery. When I write a program for the company, I know that there’ll be set resolution sizes, no unusual ways of loading the program (like a non-standard browser / Netscape / opera, etc) and no diphthongs asking for “Hey, have something that chases the mouse with the company logo on it!” I must make a point of keeping an open mind… it could be fun. No more negativity, Scotto… deal with it as it comes.

I like the new Tori single. (Big shock there.)

You know blogging has become passé when a soap opera creates blogs “written” by two of its characters.

Watched a little 700 club this morning. He’s got some severe logic issues, as well as a lot of internal hate. I went online to find a transcript of today’s show, to reference …it’s not available yet. When my spiders bring it back, I’ll have more to say. Long story short, the guy’s a racist and has a lot of intolerance. Something about “Judge Not” is ringing in my ears.

Payday. I hope It gets off to a kinder roll soon.

Hot diggety!

I got zoe‘s trivia cookies today!

She’s off count though… I got well over a dozen… closer to two! 🙂 They arrived well packed, unsmooshed and uneaten. (I’m going to rectify the latter right now!) I’m going to share this newfound boon of chocolaty-quadrangle goodness with my brother. There’s too much to hoard for myself, as much as I’d like to.

I’m back! He was *very* appreciative. 🙂

We both did the head-bob victory dance and adjourned back to our respective abodes.

I emailed my ebay guy, and he told me that my stuff was put in the mail yesterday… so I should be seeing it tomorrow, or Monday at the latest.

Downloading “Run tel dat” for the Island Boy at work. our net connection there is so congested that he can’t run kazaa at any higher than 1.8k (rather than the 106k that the file is streaming at now… It’d be higher, but I’m nabbing other stuff, too.)

/bragging&picking on the company’s net trouble

Newt likes the new table & chairs, a lot. multiple smooth surfaces at assorted heights. Mucho fun to play with, and get different vantage points on potential prey in the house. Deadly Legos, hair ties and army men had better watch out!

It’s fun to watch him.. right now he’s kicking back on top of the futon, and watching animal planet.

Newt & the boob tube
Unless I’ve reactivated cam refresh, that’s him watching “a pet story” .

I want to go to Dragon Con… maybe next year, if I can wrangle Danny or another friend into going with me, and if the guests / games are good.

I could use a good blood bowl fix. (Heroclix has rebitten my miniatures wargaming cravings), and I like to kick snotlings.

homey-home.

got a lovely wooden table and three chairs today. Rearranging the apartment took about an hour of fiddling. I think I have a layout that’s to my liking, now.

factoid o’ de day

I found a painting by Hieronymus Bosch that features trepanation.

The Cure of Folly (Extraction of the Stone of Madness), c. 1480

“Removing “stones” from the head was a fairly common medieval operation; however, Bosch has painted a flower as the object being removed. The flower is a tulip which, in the Netherlands is a metaphor for being mad. It is common for someone in a mad (crazy) state to be called a “tulip head.”

Cheated a bit on my morning bike ride. I rode up to Denny’s for some potato pancakes, applesauce and orange juice. Much cheaper than my old stomping grounds of IHOP or the groves… quality of the potato pancakes was higher, the OJ, lower. Suffice to say that it was tasty and probably outstripped any calories burned off by cycling. It was a pretty morning, cloudy with a slight breeze… early enough that the temperature was reasonable…(I’d guess low 80s).

Speaking of the groves, it looks like it’s been part of a scandal, with the Mayor. Hmm… well, I’m not in Pompano anymore. A complete list of the Mayor’s “Political Mess” articles.

Enough of that, time for a morning haiku.

Newt had some kibble.

Roman Clothing. “…The toga was the national garment of Rome; in the Aeneid, Virgil has the god Jupiter characterize the Romans as ‘masters of the earth, the race that wears the toga’ (1.282). Only male citizens were allowed to wear the toga. It was made of a large woolen cloth cut with both straight and rounded edges; it was not sewn or pinned but rather draped carefully over the body on top of the tunic. Over time, the size and manner of draping the toga became more elaborate.”

Speaking of Rome…

pollex (POL-eks) noun, plural pollices

The thumb.

[From Latin.]

Hallux is the equivalent term for the big toe.

I wonder if it’s related to Pollux?… Heck, is Castor related to Castration? (He was the god of horsemanship)

I’ve been getting some spam at my LiveJournal email address, lately. My filters pick it up, and cast it off, but I’ve just noticed that the folder has been getting chubby faster, lately.

More haiku

b-boy is doing better… I’m glad.

Got the LL… he says it’ll be 20-25 minutes.

He couldn’t bother to call, apparently. Not once in the many hours late that he’s running.

I’m calling it a day. By the time I make it into work, it’ll be time for me to head out. Unless Kev says that I must come in, I’m going to stay here.

Looking forward to getting the stuff I won on ebay… he got his paypal on Thursday, so I’m hoping he mailed the stuff out on Friday or Saturday. If I don’t see my goodies by the end of the week, I’ll write a little note and remind him. (Nice thing about paypal is that it’s like using a credit card… you can hammer scammers.) He seems like a good guy, though… 588 unique positives, 9 neutrals, and 7 negatives.

Phew… I now know what this apartment is lacking… Ceiling fans! I’m going to have to pick up a box fan I think.

Why drug dealers shouldn’t call 1-900 numbers.

oh, Miss Cleo… you’re in trouble again.

Sakes. I’m still waiting here… landlord is away from his phone. I was supposed to be at work an hour ago. Work knows that I’m running late, so all should be ok. People that don’t stick to the schedule that hey themselves set is a pet peeve of mine. Fortunately, all my bases are covered at work right now. Nobody’s out, and my project is ahead of schedule.

That went pretty well, but not what I was looking for. Home, and swapping out to sandals. Ugh. Pod doesn’t like covers on his root-system.

Landlord just took my A/C unit, and will be returning with it, or a replacement shortly. He’d better boogie, I have to get off to work.

supermanatee!

Giant grasshoppers rampage in Florida. Experts advise hitting them with a 2 x 4.

I’ve never encountered them, however I would like to see what a grasshopper sneer looks like.

I’m tired of pushing the man down the stairs, but I’m going to hang onto the program.

Well, I’m off to my morning appointment before work. I hope that it’s worth my time. I think it will be, even if it’s just as learning and getting the ball-rolling sort of experience… I need to get a feel for it again.

One of my rules of thumb is to not borrow trouble…plenty will find me on its own.

I was talking with my sweetie about Stonehenge the other night… and through one thing and another, I’ve found the Megalithic Album Cover Collection. The Stone Pages have photos of nearly 500 different archaeological sites with stone monuments.

I’m off. See you tonight, if not sooner, dear journal.
