THE VON BERG COAT OF ARMS/FAMILY CREST (without helmet)
Recorded in the Rietstap (F3850), the ancient description of the crest is
“Or, a demi-vol sable, between three mullets of six argent.”

According to Laws of Heraldry, each element of the Coat of Arms/Family Crest is symbolic. The shield is a traditional design bordered in black.

Black dots punctuate the shield’s gold background (Or). This represents the fur of an ermine and symbolizes Dignity.

A red/brown half wing in the center of the shield symbolizes loss of life in service to the Regent.

The color (Sable) represents Grief.

Three 6-pointed stars (mullets) surround the wing and symbolize exceptional Valor or Bravery. Their Silver color (Argent), represents Peace and Sincerity.

The black and gold helmet of the Coat of Arms has a black and gold wreath (knot) on the top. (This is likely a plume)  There is one silver star, with a feather in the middle of the star.  The left side of the feather is black and the right side of the feather is gold.

Feathers and Plumes are symbolic of Obedience and Serenity.

Motto: Arriere ne peut – never retreat

Social distancing day 552.

Overcast morning, mid 70s outside. Very humid.

Sisto and Harold had a nice walk along with me but my back is extra creaky today, so I had to cut things a bit short.

Still trying to suss out a good solar panel solution to the squirrel cam battery. Maybe a larger panel or two in tandem? Alternately, I can always run a line to house power to trickle charge the batteries, but that seems a last ditch answer.

Speaking of the back yard, I found out what the vultures were eating yesterday, and it was the remains of a squirrel. The portions left behind by them are a bit too dispersed for me to pick up and dispose of, so it may just return to the soil there. Thankfully it isn’t one of the critters we have previously named or identified, like split-ear or forktail, but I am wondering what got it. The owl? A fox? Was it hit by a vehicle and came here after?

Social distancing day 550

Sisto gives a brief #swampwalk report.

As for the #bogsafari , I saw a load of mushrooms / fungi. 4 squirrels minimum, a goodly load of spiders, a massive amount of house finches, one quick and photo-resistant toad, and a young lady attempting semi-unsuccesfully to launch to work.

(While I was walking to the swamp entrance, she drove past me, I smiled and waved and she did the same. 3 minutes later she drove back and waved again. Then she headed out and waved a third time, and she laughed when she saw me again, and explained what happened. I assume she made it from there. )

Also saw a few neighborhood dogs in their yards, including a tiny white pom, a sweetly brushed longhair dauschhund, and a pair of big black labs.

No humans other than me appeared to have a mask on or handy.
