Newton treats – thanks to everyone who gave links!

Okie doke, I’m back, and baking for baby.

Cookies For the Kitty

Yield: 1 Batch

1 c Whole wheat flour
1/4 c Soy flour
1 ts Catnip
1 Egg
1/3 c Milk
2 tb Wheat germ
1/3 c Powdered milk
1 tb Unsulphured molasses
2 tb Butter or vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 350F. Mix dry ingredients together. Add molasses, egg, oil and milk. Roll out flat onto oiled cookie sheet and cut into small, cat bite-sized pieces. Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool and store in tightly sealed container.

Gah,so much dust!!

I actually have to take a shower again, before going grocery shopping… it looks like the rain has abated, to time to get clean, and then forage.
(I’m going to get some supplies for my bread machine, and to make Newt some kitty treats in the oven. Maybe go to the local faith farm or goodwil and see if they have a good set of bookshelves or furniture… I figure I’ll look for nice inexpensive stuff first, and work my way up. Well, clean house, now I need a clean body, and food.

I’m really enjoying this….

I’m going to see if I can get more folks to play… (I’ve already managed to bring over .. maybe I can convince a few more folks to come along? ? ? ? ? or even if you’re not an artist… (seriously… look at mine.. I just like to color!) This is also my first in a new habit of keeping embedded images smaller…(the generator style doesn’ seem to like pictures much wider than 300 pixels) and also of me putting height and width tags in same, to spare folks from evil ‘bouncy-text’ as the images fill in. Let’s see how long I remember to do it.

cohort KOH-hort, noun:
1. A group or band of people.
2. A companion; an associate.
3. A group of people sharing a common statistical factor (as age or membership in a class) in a demographic study.
4. (Roman Antiquity) A body of about 300 to 600 soldiers; the tenth part of a legion.
5. Any group or body of warriors.

Cohort derives from Latin cohors, “an enclosure, a yard,” hence, “a division of an army camp,” hence “a troop, a company,” hence, “a division of the Roman army.”

I think they should rename the friends list to ‘cohorts’ and ‘cohort of’ 🙂 Just grouped with, no personal associations.

Friend’s list peskiness.

Here’s the thing.

Reasons for Scotto to trim his friend’s list.

1. If the person posts stuff I think will get me in trouble at work. (Nudity, porn links without warning or such)
2. Excessive foul language (seeing f-this and f-that f-the other)
3. Nothing in common, or we never talk
4. My List is too big, and I had to trim somewhere.
5. General Mean-spiritedness
6. I Never see posts in the journal anymore
7. I see 10000 one-line posts in a journal, I’ll generally remove them, because it hampers my ability to read the rest of the folks I link to.

I’ve gone past my limit of reading again, and broken my rule of ‘add one, remove two’ links. It hurts, because there are a lot of nice people out there, but I simply just cannot keep up with everybody. most of my trimming is due to reasons number 1-4.

My goal is never to hurt someones feelings, and even when I do trim my list, I’ll probably go back every now and then to peek and catch up, when I get a chance to catch a breath. I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feelings during this process.

That being said, I’m *still* trying to trim my list further down. I don’t know what I’m a-gonna do about this.

I’m Back!

Well, it was rather grey out, but watching the sun come up was nice, regardless.I was surprised at how cool the water was… last time, it was warmer than air. Bad day for surfers, no waves, good day for waders. 🙂 I plunked my head below the surf briefly, but only swam a little bit.. maybe for a half hour or so.

I just popped out of the shower, get the salt more than beach-shower rinsed off. It’s nice to be back at the house… I could almost go back to bed… but I’ll stay up a bit. I can fool around a bit, have a few low end chores to do, but for the most past, this weekend’s going to be about relaxing, and unwinding a bit. I’m off to a good start.

I was hoping that the elbo-room cam was pointed out to sea, but no such luck. Perhaps later in the day. Looking like it’s going to be a thunderstormy weekend.

straight dope – Does voice-activated eavesdropping technology listen in on phone conversations for suspicious “keywords”?

Is it true that U.S. and Canadian federal law-enforcement agencies have a voice-activated system connected to local telephone networks that activates and records telephone conversations based on certain keywords? I only ask this because a reliable source told me so. However, I am very skeptical because I can’t believe any government agency has the authority, let alone the technology.
