8674 – The village of Friendship used to be called something like “Devil’s Corner”

Got the Christmas Tree with BHK and the in laws .. went to Friendship and got a pair of bang-up trees.. one for us and one for them. BHK likes trees *BIG*. No dinky little charlie brownies for her, no sir! We dropped the trees off and then went out to din-din at Applebee’s, and closed at the local giant box store to get some holiday supplies.

So, it’s PH day again, eh? I wonder how many people that were there are still left alive?

Had dinner out with Cyn, her pop, s0likear0se and bhk at a local watering hole, Westlawn… it’s on the boycott list again after missing its reprieve. lovely time with the crew, though… Newt was well-behaved. (as normal for folks that don’t actively seek his love… ignore him, and he’ll sneak up and snuggle.)

Job fair today at general dynamics – wish me luck! Promising stuff for project manager and more programmer-ish doings as well. Dusted off the ol’ suit and had speaks with some nice folks. Afterward, we hit stoneys for tasty food, and then went back to the in-laws to visit a smidgen with tina, doug, larry & chris. lovely orange moon rise again tonight.

Tonight, Newt, BHK and I watched Barbarella for the first time. Oh, the cheese. It makes me to laugh. The suck, it makes my ears pop.

Had yummy chinese food at the in-laws with bhk, some of the best I’ve had in quite a while. odd not having so many delivery places, but the food is superior.

First sentences of the year –

January- 8079 – Welcome, 2006!

February- 8156 – Odd, considering yesterday’s news, that I took Wilt and the Momster to see The Matador last night (Was going to do Kong again, but a 3 hour movie on a “school night” is a no no for me)…sort of a chaotic film, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone in particular, but I liked it, after a fashion.

March- 8215 – Argh, try as I may, I missed free pancake day

April- 8282 – Well, I went and got a Nikon coolpix l2 (the 6 megapixel version)at office depot on sale.. got a 1 gig memory card to go with it.

May- 8332 – The Sarah Jane episode of Dr. Who didn’t disappoint, and it was delightful to see both her and K9 again.

June-8384 – Lunching with mom after work, catching up on family business, and will generally gab.

July-8434 – Today is a better day.

August-8489 – Sharks don’t have knees.

September-8536 – An object at rest cannot be stopped!

October-8580 – Sunday return!

November-8628 – Happy All Saint’s Day!

December-8664 – first day of my new life in md.

27 degrees tonight, 35, feels like 32 right now. Yikes. I’m glad for a fishbowl-like living room that can absorb sunlight and heat so readily. Flurries tomorrow, maybe!

Beautiful full moon last night. I’ll post some pics once the images get to flickr. Bright orange, over the bay, christmas lights and sand.

Review from Patton Oswalt re: HANNIBAL RISING

It’s like reading fan fiction. It’s that bad. How depressing. I love Thomas Harris’ books, but this one…it even has a climax where our hero looks skyward and yells, “NOOOOOOOOOO!”

Which is what I did, when I read it.

Santa’s evil sidekick gives jolly fright to kids

By Alexandra Zawadil Wed Dec 6, 1:49 AM ET

GRESTEN, Austria (Reuters) – As Christmas nears, Austrian children hoping for gifts from Santa Claus will also be watching warily for “Krampus”, his horned and hairy sidekick.

In folklore, Krampus was a devil-like figure who drove away evil spirits during the Christian holiday season. Continue reading 8671 –

Dined on the Weezle’s dad’s grapefruit for breakfast this morning (with a couple of tasty bagels), and they were jim-dandy, to say the least. Good stuff from Sanibel!

Current Lyrics

Young Master Newton continues his silly habit of licking the condensation off of the windows of the living room. I think his purpose is twofold… tasty water, fresh from the pane, and clear view of outdoor squirrels!

Keroack also promotes a wacky piece of pseudoscience: the claim that premarital sex disrupts brain chemistry so as to create a physiological barrier to happy marriage. Continue reading 8670 –

unpacked a little bit, made sure phone at the fl place was turned off, and discovered that Neighborhood Health doesn’t want to extend COBRA benefits because of my move out of the tri-county area. I’ve got a call in to the department of labor to take care of things – even if worst comes to worst, I know of a decent health insurance provider I can turn to if COBRA doesn’t cut it… or if I get a gig before that, the new insurance should be even better than Neighborhood’s in any event.

After taking care of the top-o-de-month loose ends, we took a little trip to tina’s and visited her and the kitties for a bit. doug was upstairs day-trading on his laptop, so kitties won the day for attention. kiki and chai are adorable little beasties, and it’s a shame that doug is allergic (I am too, so my visit with ’em was kept to a minimum. we meant to pick up a photo CD, but forgot take it with us when we left.

from there, we journeyed to goodyear for the replacement tire and settlement, only to find it was a different speed rating (A “H” rather than a “S”) so we get to return tomorrow for pickup and install. odds are best that it’ll cost half price due to our low mileage and goodyear’s desire to keep customers happy… I’d have preferred a freebie replacement, but it beats dropping $160-175 for a new tire.

picked up a few holiday ornaments for our not yet picked out tree – rainbow of colored bulbs and strung beads, with a punch buggy vw and heart ornament for flavor. lots of model train sets on display in MD at assorted locations- makes me crave building models and painting minis just a smidgen (but not enough to warrant the purchase of paints or brushes… I know if I dove back into the hobby, I’d just collect a lot of clutter and dust… not to mention I might bore of it again swiftly). Better to build a model or three with bhk and bugah at his house here and there.

tasty dinner of cowboy beans, goldfish crackers… talked to Danny briefly on the phone, in fact I’m calling him back once I finish typing this up.

Found a few really nice prezzies here and there, both primaries and stocking stuffers. no details due to readers who may be receiving them.

I finally heard “Crabs for Christmas”! Very cute tune, and I’d been looking forward to the groove for about 4 months now.

Newt climbed on BHK’s shoulder… that tells me he’s accepted her quite strongly. I believe the move here has mellowed any harsh he may’ve had against her. Or maybe he knows santa’s watching.

That’s about it for now dear journal! time to call Dan back, and see what he’s up to for a few. Later tater!

p.s. temps in the 20s tonight, and I’m digging it… at least as long as I’m inside!

Had a nice time shopping with bhk, tina and chris – got a few stocking stuffers and some much needed sneakers. Newtcam is back up, now that I’m on the local network on lappie, though big brain is still packed. it won’t be 24/7 until I can find a good spot for it.

newton!

after shopping, we hit tt’s diner for some dinner, with mixed levels of culinary success, and then drove home through holiday lights, and a viewing of Elf while bhk slept on my lap on the couch. a good day, indeed.

a smidgen chillier out today, and I’m looking forward to the possibility of a white christmas… or maybe birthday. two christmases this year, one for doug, before he ships out for Iraq on the 15th, and another at the proper time. I’m pleased that doug makes tina happy… she deserves someone to make her feel good.

went with misti, bhk and em to see buga and neil tote a balloon in the richmond christmas parade – had a great time – aside from the obvious perq of bugah, there were also tiny shriner cars, a really overweight darth vader, cowboys, balloons of odd things blowing like the hindenberg, and more sousaphones than even john phillips could ask for. Odd thing, since the giant balloons were being hoisted through downtown richmond, they had to be lowered to duck under the street lights every few blocks.

misc pictures from road trip to md (including newt in lockdown, south of the border, and electric palm trees, as well as the parade) click here.

bro still is where he is… writing him a letter tomorrow or first thing monday.

after the parade and a quick trip to target to look for some xmas lights, we visited with misti, neil & co, bfore heading to the in-laws for dinner. long day, but a solid one… on the way back, we drove through DC, and I got to eyeball the washington monument and nation’a capital from the potomac bridge. more photos from that neck of the woods soon.

with that, I’m hitting the sack. until later, dear journal.

8664 – first day of my new life in md

pretty keen, thus far. woke up, watched “my big fat greek wedding” with the mrs, unloaded the van into the house, and went with the dad-in-law to replace a flat tire. (tire is a goodyear, on the love cube – may be getting replaced fro free as a defective, rather than us replacing it due to road hazard.) Larry’s a really good guy, and I had a nice tim e gabbing with him on the trip to the shop.

Newt has acclimated to his surroundings quite nicely… we may introduce pye to the equation as early as monday.

later, we all hit bob evans for some sorely needed din-din, and then bhk and i split off for a litterbox / christmas light quest at wal-mart. we were halfway successful, point to sandbox for newtie.

should have the big brain set up by end of day tomorrow, so I’ll do the former years bit again soon.

arrive din md safe and sound.. bhk and I are weary but unbowed. had a nice supper at the inlaws, and mr newt is adapting to his new environs nicely. hopefully pye-pye will be joining the lot of us here at the hacienda soon.

met tina’s doug, and had a tasty bean dinner.

Last day of packing before venture north… Newt seems to dig his little riding house, and we’ve got most of the supplies we need. Now it’s just a matter of sorting and storing today. BHK and I had a nice time at danny’s yesterday – I cleaned up at balderdash. Janet was pretty good at the fake out definitions, but I won with psychology and knowledge of what a howdah was.

phone is being turned off on 11/30, so if you need my number, email me or post here for it. I still need ot get a book or two from folks I lent to, and so on, but I imagine I’ll pick ’em up on my next visit down, if I don’t get them before I leave.

lunch with Danny, hopefully rest of day packing. been busy busy recently, but after unpacking cpu in Maryland, all should be more steady and fun, entry-wise.

Newt’s going on a 16 hour roadtrip tomorrow or tues (well, 2 of 8 and 8)… we’ll see how he digs it. bhk is covering trash while I pack. Actually, I should be hopping in the shower, so we can get with Dan one more time before I depart.. lots of things this week.. his wedding anniversary, my dad’s birthday, thanksgiving, etc. It’s been a little tough dealing with the loss of my dad and bro lately, especially going through my mementos of them. Sort of disappointed the florida party never took off either, but I suppose I can have a reunion party here when I come back to the condo during off-season.

Sorry entries have been so sparse, but they’ll be back up to speed in less than a week, I suspect.

until later, dear journal!
