Moment of Lyric – Nelson Sings Nilsson
In 1969, Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman joined forces to record”Nilsson Sings Newman,” a gorgeous, minimalist collection of Newman songs sung by Nilsson (obviously).
In 2001, as his band, Harvey Danger, broke up, Sean Nelson became deeply enamored of “Nilsson Sings Newman,” and considered that “nelson sings Nilsson” would be a funny title for a record.
Bro woke me up last night, right as I’d hunkered in for sleep. I wished him a happy birthday, and he tried to get me to buy pizza or chinese for his whole crew at the hotel he’s staying. I declined, and suggested some other options. He’s back with Shannon, and thinks that she is probably pregnant. A bad idea, as neither he nor she is able to raise a child in their current mental, physical and financial situation. He turned 34 yesterday, and is still living moment to moment, catching a hotel room here or sleeping in his truck there.
He adds a bitter flavor to the bulk sweetness in my life right now. It figures he’d wake me up on a night that I was trying to get some extra snoozles.
Went with some work crew to outback for feed – it was yummy, as usual… pasta and a bloomin’ onion. Work was discussed only minimally, which is nice.
Heard from Vicki last night – getting together with her and some of the old gang a week from tomorrow for a little supper. Apparently, most have gone on to other non-profits: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Lung Association, Kids in Distress, and Boys & Girls Clubs. Nice to see good folks working to help make the world a better place.

First Episode of Legion of Super Heroes wasn’t too bad. Not sure how I feel about the “greatest american hero – needs training” superman. I think it’s probably ok as a kid hero thing.
Nice cameo of skeets, Booster gold and a lot of Green Lantern Races at the museum, they did a pretty sharp update.
Contrast that with “Heroes”… my jury’s still out on that one. It has potential, but needs a little more oomph, I think.
The C in CW stands for CBS and the W stands for WB – Columbia Warner? (CBS&WB) – something weird about an abbreviation of 2 abbreviations.
So, is the actor playing Luke leaving Gilmore Girls, or are they just getting really uppity with the writing?
How to crack a walnut with one hand:
- First, place two hard-shelled walnuts in the palm of your hand.
- Carefully line up the seams, and wrap your fingers around them.
- With your hand slightly cupped, get a good grip – One walnut should rested against the base of the thumb, while the other one presses against the curved second and third fingers.
- Squeeze *HARD* until the weaker one of the two walnuts gives in to the pressure.
That move *really* impresses folks… I once got a “Woo!” from John, the first time I showed it to him.
Good during the winter holidays, when there are walnuts all over the place.
I’m a little envious of folks that are in a place (MD) where they can see their breath… I’ll get to do that this weekend- airports have reduced restrictions on liquids again, which means that I can bring a drink aboard. Non-stop flights this time, so no layovers! Most Excellent!
I’m looking forward to late October walkabouts and after. Basic thoughts include the Keys, Vizcaya, and maybe assorted South Florida locales.
Citgo is owned by Venezuela, eh?
Angry with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for calling President Bush “the devil,” state Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, is calling on the Florida Secretary of Transportation to pull the plug on gasoline stations along the Florida Turnpike run by Venezuelan-owned Citgo. Interesting answers to yesterday’s poll.
There are many different variations of Rock, Paper, Scissors which range from simple changes in the names of the objects to increasing the number of players or objects. While interesting, most rule variations suffer from one problem or another, making them less interesting games.Versions of this game are also observed in many different cultures. It is usually known by direct translations of “Rock, Paper, Scissors”although some cultures have slightly different names or even entirely different elements representing the different objects. For example in Japan there is a variation which uses a tiger, a chief and the chief’smother as the three elements (the tiger beating the chief’s mother, the chief beating the tiger and the chief’s mother beating the chief). In Indonesia another version is played with the elements as an elephant, a man and an ant (the elephant crushing the man, the man crushing the ant and ant humorously defeating the elephant by crawling into the animal’sear and making it go insane).[1] The Chinese, not counting Taiwanese, and Koreans use Cloth along with Rock and Scissors, while the Japanese have adopted Paper. Minor variation is also observed in the standard game play.
iTunes RSS Server is a web server software to read your iTunes Music Library.xml and publish the playlists (including Smart Playlists) as RSS 2.0 Podcast feed. It handles MP3 and AAC files as well as server media files upon byte-range requests.
It allows neat stuff like “listening to your iTunes@home from PSP remotely”.

Cherry, Green Apple and Tangerine flavored candy corn are a crime against humanity. Well, maybe not… but they are just gross to think about.

This is the first 20 minutes of Bill Clinton’s interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. In this clip, Wallace asks Clinton why he didn’t do more to capture or kill Osama bin Laden while he was in office. Clinton clearly feels like he has been set up and doesn’t hold back in telling Wallace just how he feels.
I’d forgotten what it’s like to see a president hold his own, and give a proper verbal slap down to someone.

Here’s a hidden program in Windows Xp, it is a very useful graphics tool for designing your own fonts, logos and icons.
To start the program go to Run in the Start Menu then type eudcedit and click OK.
It will then open the program, and you just select a hexadecimal code for your first character from the grid to start then click OK and you are now ready to begin designing. Using the set of drawing tools on the left you can do your own design. When you have finished you can save your character, either in a particular font, or all fonts. via
I just downloaded Night of the Living Dead down to my PSP. you can d/l it or watch it directly on archive.org or google video. It’s one of my all-time fave scary movies.
Happiness is Roddy MacDowell with silly string on most recent Columbo. I honestly don’t know if I prefer him in protagonist or antagonist roles. It did really put the focus on the dangers of smoking and “modern answering machines”, if nothing else. It seems that Columbo went from drinking bourbon on the job in ’68 to passing on booze entirely in ’72. I wonder if the Mrs. turned him around?

Crashed out hard last night. One minute I was active and wakeful on the phone, the next, ZZZzzZZZ. Pretty solid sleep through the night, with the exception of a mild break (I was maybe only 1/3 awake) to take medicine and put on the CPAP for official sleeps.
Met with Newt’s catsitter this morning – She’s a nice older lady that will be coming up twice a day to say hello, give him some loving, and make sure his food, water and litter are properly tended to while I’m away. She knows not to let Newt out of the house, and that he’s a crafty little guy… I’m glad that I have this alternative, because I really didn’t want to have him boarded somewhere… I know he’s going to be bummed that I’m gone for a bit already. I’ve seen her around the complex before… she feeds the turtles and some of the ibis around the pond out back.
Apparently, there are more than a few kitties in the building, despite official rules ot the contrary. I only knew of 2 others, but I’m thinking that I’ve only scratched the surface.
Random bit – It is said that Mohammad once cut a portion of his cloak away so that he would not disturb a cat sleeping on the remaining cloth.
Hey, keen! Free wifi on Tri-rail, now. I think that’ll make for a lot of happy commuters (myself included).

Newt is just chillin’ with my psp and some small denomination currency, wedged comfortably between my monitors.
Last Two – The Wachovia Building (or whichever, now that a Nation’s Bank took it over) – top windows blown out of the tower, and someone put danger tape all around the breakout area. No visible glass or debris, so I guess they cleaned it all up before I got there. Fortunately, no chalk outline. One of the poles marking off the danger zone is my bus stop to work.
For Glass and Debris pictures, feel free to look at my post hurricane wilma shots, instead. I can’t believe it will only be a year ago in October.. it feels like it was ages since it happened.

Chipped my bottom right rear molar last night – Looks like I’ll need a crown back there. Swinging by the local dentist as soon as I can switch the phones over to the office and the doc’s place opens up. I hope any fix is simple, painless, and inexpensive. Fortunately, I have no dental pain at the moment.

Hey, my episode of Columbo last night (Murder by the Book) was directed by Stephen Spielberg. The story was weakish, but it was visually pleasing and I liked the characters. I think that I preferred the Second episode, Death Lends a Hand more. Robert Culp is pretty keen in any role.
Netflix seems to have to stretch a bit lately to send me my goodies –

I’ve discovered that the bus can have so much background noise that I can’t hear my episodes of House or old time radio (Boston Blackie, or the Naked City, currently) on the ride back home. I don’t notice the excessive sound until I try to listen to something on the cell phone or ear buds.
Not to be too snarky, but I’d like next year to be “talk like a ninja day”, and for everyone to not say *anything* meme related for a day. (Myself included.)

Yarrr! It be Talk like a pirate day and Adam West’s 78th B’day!
First Columbo movie was fun…the M.O. of letting the bad guy be lulled into a false sense of security by a bumbler is a solid one. The writing has held up, and the acting is a lot better than other shows of the period. Nice use of Double Indemnity on TV as a story within a story.
Wow… the menstrualhut has over 2250 members now. When I first started it, I had no idea it’d still be growing and active five years later, pretty much on its own. I’m going to have to swing by the Museum of Menstruation when I’m in Maryland. His site is a goodly part of why the hut got rolling in the first place.
Washington D.C. (AHN) – A heap of debris taken from quarry trash in Mexico has yielded a stone block inscribed with what researchers believe is the oldest writing ever found in the New World. Researchers say the serpentine block dates back almost 3,000 years and was created by people from Olmec civilization.

8561 – Fart Knocker. Heh.
Went to the Seminole Casino on Coconut Creek as a mini-walkabout. I dropped a few bucks, trying slots, and I *really* don’t get it. I totally felt like a monkey pushing a bar to get a banana pellet…. the only trouble was, I had to feed the machine banana pellets to make it work. Poorly.
Not really on a par with the hard rock, but interesting to see the variety of machines and people doing the pushbutton thing. Retirees, doctor-types in scrubs, people smoking and eating chili dogs, all poking that spin button over and over again, putting in bills of all denominations, or the really hardcore just using some special sort of debit card.
I’ll just keep my banana pellets to myself, and cut out the pellet-stealing machine, thank you very much. My Fave machine to look at was was “Blues Brothers” themed… most were branded in some way, Wheel of Fortune, Monopoly, and Tobasco Hot Pepper sauce all had slot machines.
Poker was upstairs, and doubly smoky… I couldn’t find the high-speed bingo anywhere.
Odd that the Seminole Flag is very similar to the German Flag, but with a white bar on top. I guess there are only so many color combinations you can hit with stripes, before you have some replication going on.
Slept soundly last night, with odd dreams of being underwater.. maybe because the road trip in October might include the Georgia Aquarium, now? It’s so big that they have flippin’ whale sharks! Maybe I won’t have to wait until my last day on earth to visit a chunk of the great barrier reef, after all? A little scary… I saw Jaws 3-D, after all.
Reclusive German, reading reclusively in his grotto? Sounds right.

(I suppose it could also technically be Bersc, Berpr, Bergr, vonsc, or vonpr due to my first name not really being my used name, and last name being all krauty and such)
I had no small amount of difficulty getting solid sleep yesterday morning – I had four different instances of being awakened just as I hit that deep, solid sleep phase… four jangled wide awakes while really snoozed out. Fortunately, I got a couple really solid ones last night, and a little naptime today will set me right!
I’m becoming a costumed crimefighter — what should I have on my utility belt? – comments section pretty handy!
I’m glad they’ve given Greg Behrendt his own show… I hope he’s successful. I’ve never met the guy, but I’ve enjoyed just about everything I’ve ever heard him say.
Other recent addition to my synch (both itunes and psp)- refrederator – daily video podcast of vintage cartoons (Dover Boys [7/14/2006 – download] is an all time fave of mine)
“Unhand her, Dan Backslide! Unhand her, Dan Backslide! Unhand her, Dan Backslide!… (Say, we’re getting in a rut)… Stand up and fight, you coward, bully, cad, and thief!”
It seems someone bead me to the syndication of the site… a typo in the name, but that’s ok by me – refederator, but it looks like itunes is a lot more reliable than lj’s dodgy rss grabber.
