7347 – FIVE FIVE FIVE! in thirteen months, it’ll be SIX SIX SIX!
Lots of birds this morning. Mourning dove, green amazon parrots, and a woodpecker somewhere. When I leave the house, that’ll soon turn to more city sounds. Tires on pavement, wind over SUVs whooshing, and other assorted traffic sounds.
Moment of Lyric:
I don’t know how to hide,
Keep my shadow alive,
It’s easy to defend,
The logic of a friend
And I don’t know how to tell, if it’s heaven or hell
That I’ll be going to
Just as long as I’m there with you.

7345 – We gonna have a good life.
Added the Enzyte theme song to my webjay playlist.
The one day I don’t come into the club, Fishbone shows up! I was going to give a big Bah, humbug, but mzk hooked me up with a VIP pass to go see ’em last night for free-like at the Culture Room! I had a mighty fine time. Pics to follow later, when I have time to slip them in. The other Band, Slightly Stoopid wasn’t bad, but Fishbone was truly excellent. I’ve loved ’em since Tapeheads.
7344 – Goat butter is nowhere in the body text.
Conflicted mindset right now, but not so much that it’s hurtful or anything. I’m sort of torn on a few things, but logically, I know the path to take. It’s just a pain in the keister that what I’d enjoy most isn’t a realistic goal right now. The monkey has to listen to the robot right now.

Hunt for the MONGOLIAN DEATHWORM!
It can grow up to 1.5m (5ft), spits corrosive yellow saliva and can generate electrical blasts powerful enough to kill a camel. A team of British scientists has set out to capture the elusive monster – and they plan to wrestle it to the ground with their bare hands.
(see also – http://www.deathworm.co.uk )
Mzk suggested that I move in with Maressa. (She’s looking for a short term place.) Nopey-nope. That’s too much for me right this moment. If she had real hardship, I’d share, but I prefer to keep solo otherwise. I also brought her an awesome ebay rockabetty tiki-girl outfit. She will rock in that outfit, with a blue flower in her hair.
7343 – interview meme
Someone asks you 5 questions, you answer them in your journal, and then offer to interview other people… so if you want me to interview you, comment đŸ™‚
questions from
1. How did you and Newt find each other?
A friend’s wife worked at the hospital, and someone brought in a box of very newborn kittens (3 weeks old, if that) They called me up and asked if I wanted one, and initailly, I said no thanks because I’m allergic. They couldn’t find a home for him by the end of the day, so I said that I’d foster-parent him until a more suitable one came along. After a week of feeding him every four hours with a dropper and keeping him close to me for warmth, I called back and told them to call off the parent-seach, because I’m the mamma now. I’m glad of that, because he’s the best possible buddy I’ve had over the last five-ish years. He sleeps in my bed, and hangs out wherever I go. I’m really glad that he weaned off of baby formula though, as it made his poo stink terribly.
2. Do you think altruism exists?
Absolutely. I don’t buy into that “Altruism is an illusion, people do it for themselves” crap. It isn’t all about a person’s short term or long term interests.. sometimes it’s just about helping people. It’s actually quite easy to put the needs of another person before yourself. A person is willing to run into a burning building to save an infertile person in a coma. Or give the shirt off of his back so a stranger can be warm.
I don’t much care for the argument. Probably because I view people as individuals, not as matter that wants to breed and pass itself on.
3. Why is your favorite book your favorite?
I have a lot of great books on my list. Dandilion Wine (by Ray Bradbury) is really high up there, becuse I think it’s a grewat distillation (pardon the pun) of excellent characters, nostalgia, fantasy fiction and flow. It’s viewed from a child’s eyes, and told by an adult. Probably one of the best-told tales written in the 20th century, in my opinion.
4. Do you wish life came with do-overs?
I could see them coming in handy in case of emergencies, but for the most part, no. It’d just make us lazy, and it’s just simpler to live with things as they come, and move on.
5. If you had a son, what is the one thing you would be sure to teach him?
Play straight with people. Lies and cheats may work in the short term, but in the end, you get found out, and people are slow to forgive. EVERYTHING has repercussions. Besides, it’s a lot simpler to keep your story straight if it’s the truth.

Lovely cyberman cameo in the Dalek episode of Dr. Who. Also, more “Bad Wolf” imagery. (Just an In-joke?) Rather my least favorite one so far, but it was still worth a watch.
Moment of lyric –
And you know it like a poet, like baby doll
I bet she tried to say she gave me her all, she played ball
All bets off! The Villain got the dice rigged
And they say he accosted the man with the sliced wig
Allegedly; the investigation is still ongoing
In this pesky inition he gots the best con flowin’
The pot doubles, now they really got troubles
Madman never go *pop*!, like snot bubbles
Someone remixed a bunch of President Bush speeches and rearranged his words so that it sounds like he’s singing “Imagine” and “A Walk On The Wild Side.” (part of an entire album called The Party Party. Download it here.) via boingboing
Awesome.
I still think a freshly baptized baby (Especially if still wet from the fount) would be an awesome weapon against a vampire. Actually, I wonder how great a recently baptized born-again martial artist with a sharpened wooden leg would probably be the best. While wearing a Crucifix. At High Noon. In the Desert. On a clear day.
After the club, I went to see Sahara… it was a cute, dumb action film. Quite enjoyable. Solid Dirk Pitt fare.
I was complimented on my gentleness on Saturday, and was reminded that the Spanish word for toad is sapo (frog is rana). I can communicate in Spanish like a first-grader.
(El nombre de mi gato es Newton y él es anaranjado.)
During walkabout yesterday, a coconut nearly dented my noggin, and landed on the sidewalk with a really solid *THUNK* . If Isaac Newton lived further South, he’d have just discovered a concussion rather than a theory about gravity. If I was about 2 feet to the right, Newton-cat would’ve had to wait a while before a litte change.
Travel Pictures:
Cute little munchkin on the bus. We played at making silly faces the whole way up.
more sticky letter graffiti, right on the bus. TRIK

Random Scotto Factoid: I’m the first son of a second son of a first son of a second son.
I don’t know for sure beyond my Great Grandfather.
I’m the first “Firstborn son” not to serve in the military in some capacity.
Something happened to my scottobear.com mail forwarding. I have a request in, but meantime, who knows where those mails echoed over Friday and Saturday. (That includes LJ-comments.) I’ve now forwarded them to my yahoo account now, so all should be good. [update- fixed! no mail lost]
Happily Avoided the Air & Sea Show by going to the club today. I found out that both Suzy and Maressa are from Columbia. I got to chitty-chat with Mzk and the gang there… stayed until shift change and went with Maressa to scope out other venues. That was a pleasant surprise, even if no venues were worth the effort. Notable, we saw a German girl in braids, hot pants and mid-shin high Doc Marten’s dance on the bar.

Caught the late night showing of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
… it wasn’t bad. They fit a lot of stuff into 2 hours… People that want the 6 hours of the radio show aren’t going to get it in 1:50. Trillian was lovely (I think dark hair suits her more than the blond she played in Elf – Beautiful Big eyes.), and I liked the nods to the radio and BBC TV series. They Hollywood-ized it a bit, but that’s ok. Kind of odd Seeing Philip from Shaun of the Dead as Slartibartfast, but he did a very good job.
The house was not packed. I’d say that it was about 20% full.

Every new problem brings a stranger inside
Helplessly forcing one more new disguise

Doing a lot next weekend… Friday with Jeff & B, Sat with Kev. This weekend, not so much. Pay rent, and bills, take call, go to the club, bar food, chit-chat, play with Newtie.
Some folks I know are getting pestered by that Primerica MLM network Scam. They’ve been at it for a while – see Sanjay’s entry.
I remember when they were calling me after I started posting my resume online with Monster and Dice, back in ’03. They claimed I’d be in a management position, but fortunately I sniffed around and found out what was really up. The weird thing was that they didn’t even mention the company name at first.

A Stratelliteâ„¢ is a high-altitude airship that when in place in the stratosphere will provide a stationary platform for transmitting various types of wireless communications services currently transmitted from cell towers and satellites. It is not a balloon or a blimp. It is a high-altitude airship.
Wifi via airship. Coolness. Sky Pirates of all kinds can’t be far behind!
Moment of not being a total geek. I can wait for Sirenity to be shown on tv. I enjoyed Firefly, but the small screen is just fine. I may do the next Star Wars flick wit h Kev and the gang, though…social nerdity is more fun. I’m far more interested in Romero’s Land of The Dead.

7336 – observation
I took an extended walk up to the courthouse this morning to take the #1 in to work, rather than bounce from 55 to the terminal.
There is a severe “disco-effect” at the corner of 3rd and broward at about 7am. The sun is still hanging low in the sky, and the mirror-sided buildings send crazy reflections and shadows everywhere.
Las Olas Riverhouse – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=101609
Bank of America Plaza – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=100861
Wachovia Center – http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=124371
All reflect off of curves and corners… some light turns blue against the tint. Those reflections in turn bounce off of other buildings, and end up giving me multicolored shadows in blue, yellow and orange. If you look higher than the horizon, you’re asking to be dazzled for at least a second. The effect only lasts for a little while, as the sun rises up over that line of fire, but I wonder about folks driving during that moment. A lot of potential accidents and blind spots. I doubt that the glitterball factor happened by design, but I’m glad it did, as long as it’s safe. When I get a camera worth a bean, I’ll be sure and photograph it.
7335 – Nazi Monkeys and Zombie Cambodians
Met with some folks at Centale about setting up a missing child desktop alert system. I’m skeptical about how we’re going to get it distributed, but it could work, depending on how we go about doing it. We’re going to have to be careful about advertising revenue, too. We don’t want it to be “This message of a child in danger brought to you by McDonalds! Print it out, and get free cookies with your happy meal!”
I may be oversimplifying that last point. We don’t have McDonald’s as a sponsor. Yet.
No Poorhouse last night. The vibe wasn’t right, unfortunately. Ah well, Next time. Maybe tonight and/or next Wednesday.
Also, maybe next Tiki Night? It’s going to be in June.
