Taken from The Girlfriends’ Guide to Toddlers by Vicki Iovine.

You can curse like a sailor, pick your nose or eat nothing but Doritos for breakfast, lunch and dinner around a baby and he will not pick up your bad habits. Once you have a toddler in the house, however, you’d better be ready to see your worst behavior mirrored….
…If you wish your child to behave in a certain way, the very best thing you can do is behave that very same way….
…In the long run, it will not be the little quirks your toddler inherited from you that really matter. Your challenge lies in not setting examples that can ruin his life. What follows is a list of the most important behaviors to cut out of your life before they are woven into the fabric of your toddler’s life:

  1. Don’t smoke
  2. Don’t hit or allow yourself to be hit
  3. Don’t demean or allow yourselt to be demeaned.
  4. Don’t lie
  5. Don’t hate

If you can master those things as well as toss in all the good stuff like:

  1. Love freely.
  2. Be enthusiastic.
  3. Honor commitments.
  4. Read together.

Then you’re already miles ahead in the parenting game.

It seems to me that this would be an effective way to cure the world of it’s ills.

Sólo quiero estirarme en la arena.

ack! I must’ve forgotten to hit send on my early morning post… it’ll show up later… when I get home tonight.

back from taking Newto to the vet…. he has a little virus and is on antibiotics… 1 & 1/2 droppers worth, 2x a day. hearkens back to when I was feeding him as a baby, and when he got sick from Fritz a while back. went straight form the vety to work, so I can babysit him more in depth today, and give him all sorts of loving. 🙂 He’s busy sniffing the areas where the puppy was yesterday… a golden retriever at about 3 weeks old… “Dexter”… adorable little thing, even if he’s a super peeing machine. Newt’s taking great interest in Dex’s wee-wee spots. (only fair… Dex was fascinated by Newt’s litterbox here yesterday, too… we had to cover it, to keep the puppy from rooting in it… it’s clean but sand everywhere is not a desired result. )

Newton’s trip…. weight – 12.75 lbs… a good weight.. he’s not as fat as he looks, I guess.

got a fecal exam, physical, an antibiotic injection, antihistamine injection, and two bottles of amoxicillin suspension. with the biohazardous waste fee, it came to a grand total of $97.50.

not bad… Newton is now 2 years and 11 weeks old. 🙂 he’ll return for his bordatella booster in about 2 weeks.

from this morning, forgot to hit send circa 8am

Getting Newtie ready for his trip to the vet today, before work. Last night was full of odd dreams, more surreal than real.. flashes of imagery instead of a plotline that I can remember. Going fishing, reading a colorful book to a lot of children, seeing a friends teeth fall out. strange colors and textures… anyone who says that you dream in black and white forgot to mention that you have a very real sense of what the colors are…(I honestly think that I dream in color) Ragged swatches of cloth on a makeshift flag and the beautiful brown eyes of the girl I adore can certainly attest to that.

Newt goes to the vet tomorrow… checkup time… at a good time, I think, as he’s sneezing this morning. (I think that’s just because he was rooting through a dusty box of books I’d opened last night, though.)

dream fragment

This here is the dream sequence…. it makes no sens-iaaaaa.

dreamt of taking my sweetie to the doctor, and the doc (who looked a lot like agent scully) said that sweetie was “too purple” and had to breathe more… we signed up for yoga classes to fix it…instead of what I think of in a normal class, we sat facing one another breathing deeply, and got a big case of the giggles. We straightened up, and looked into each others eyes… we fell together and became one, taking great pleasure in what comes naturally between a man and a woman in love. (The yoga place vanished, and was replaced by a more intimate environment, somewhere down the line) we talked about getting some shoes for the kitties afterwards… It sounded like a good idea at the time, but upon being wakeful, I don’t think Newt’d dig being “puss in boots”, and nor would the other. I did wake up with her name on my lips, and that’s a nice way to begin the day.

Slept too late for walkies this morning, almost 10 hours last night… that’s practically unheard of. ah well. I must’ve needed the extra rest. Off to shower and dress for work-a-rama.

This is the best thing I’ve read in a newspaper in a very long time.

tonight’s read – The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers… pulled it out, rearranging my books… I really enjoy Tim Powers’ stuff, good mental popcorn, and a nice writing style. I mean, how can you not like this cover text:

“An ancient Egyptian sorcerer whose powerful magic can change the history of the entire world!
A modern millionaire with a sinister plan who journeys back to England in 1810!
A werewolf who switches bodies – then kills his victims to keep his identity a secret!
A hideously deformed clown of crime who performs grotesque experiments on his victims!
A brainwashed Lord Byron – programmed to kill King George!
A young woman disguised as a boy, hunting the thing that killed her lover!
And our hero, Professor Brendan Doyle, who has no idea what he is getting into when he agrees to give a lecture on Samuel Taylor Coleridge…”

Off to powder my brain. 🙂

I dreamt that my apartment was actually much bigger than I thought. It had at least 2 more rooms, and a nice view of a mountain (odd in Florida). One of the previously unnoticed rooms looked exactly like that of the back room at the library I used to work at, lockers and comfy chairs, and all. I’d still love to go by there an pick up the old contents.

It’s raining, closest to snow that I’ll get today… it’s a soothing sound, bringing to mind comforting thoughts of relaxing at home, snuggled up with my sweetie under soft covers, just listening to the water hitting the glass, and taking in each other’s scent. Drawing our cares away, just moments of bliss.

Newt likes his prezzies…I’m keeping mum about ’em, because a certain black cat got some similar ones… I don’t want to spoil the surprise…

Off to luxuriate in the rain sounds. 🙂

Welcome to my wall scrawls.
