GeotargetApproximately 20% of the women were wearing uggs at target last weekend. the silly all-over sasquatch-shaggy ones. that’s a lot of furry boots. With short skirts. I had to smile.. I love when something totally ridiculous is trendy. They’re the leg-warmer/headband combo of the new millennium!

Trust Wikipedia for the full unabridged history of the Christmas Tree. Leave it to us crazy Germans to take a tradition of hanging sacrificial slaves from a tree into a wonderland of lights.

Moment of Lyric: mp3 – (via)

Just a little lovin’
Early in the morning
Just a little lovin’
Early in the day
Just a little lovin’
Early in the morning…

Man, I really dig this song’s mix.

Healthy thoughts for Graypumpkin‘s outpatient surgery today, and I hope he gets a decent dice pouch out of his gall bladder!

I alternately fear and welcome the torrent of backlogged email that’s going to hit me once the notifications are fully fixed. Looks like it’ll be soon! I just got an email that was supposed to land in my box on 11/20. eep.

7980 – Monday? Already?

GeotargetLike Barney says before he steals Fred’s Holiday Pebbles cereal… “Ho, Ho, Ho, I’m Huh, huh, hungry!”

A bowl of cinnamon life will do in a pinch. Slices of banana sound weird with cinnamon, but it’s pretty tasty. Bananas are better tossed into pancakes or monkeys, I think.

Oh, the joys of the holiday season. Dave Barry’s annual gift guide is here.

This is not your ordinary gift guide, the kind that features gifts that somebody might actually want or use. The gifts in this guide were selected because they meet a very strict criterion, which is that when we saw the item advertised, we said to ourselves: ”Are they SERIOUS?” The idea is, if you give one of these items to somebody on your list, that person will be much less likely to want to exchange gifts with you in the future.

Finally, some real humor in the Cathy comic strip. AAAHH!

7974 – The gift of Cake! And cute cartoons!

GeotargetI wish I were a Christmas tree
a pretty little pine
I’d wear a star upon my head
and ornaments that shine

Oh if I were a Christmas Tree
I’d dress myself with care
‘Cause if I wore bananas
I’ll get monkeys in my hair

I’d have nice presents at my feet
and tinsel to my toes
I’d be all wrapped in twinkly lights
with pine cones on my nose

I wish I were a Christmas tree
a pretty little pine
I’d wear a star upon my head
and ornaments that shine.

*POP* Oh yay!

Kitty Kitty Kitty you are pretty pretty pretty big
Kitty Kitty Kitty I like you!
Kitty Kitty Kitty you are pretty pretty pretty red
Kitty Pretty Kitty I LIKE YOU!!

-Charlotte from the “Making Fiends” Christmas special and Episode 6. I won’t bother to record the Vendetta rendition of the Christmas special, too much work. Well worth visiting, though.

7946 – Found thanksgiving goodies

GeotargetRandom Scotto factoid – Left over church training makes me think to respond to “May the force be with you” with – “And also with you”.

Songs that give thanks-

Dido – Thank You

ABBA – Thank You For the Music

Alanis Morissette – Thank U

Elton John – Your Song

John Mellencamp – Thank You

Celine Dion – Because You Loved Me

Sash! – Hallelujah

Kelly Clarkson – Thankful

No Doubt – Sunday Morning

Also, the lame joke of just saying “GRACE!” loud and as the before meal prayer still makes me laugh.

“Thank U”

how bout getting off these antibiotics
how bout stopping eating when I’m full up
how bout them transparent dangling carrots
how bout that ever elusive kudo

thank you india
thank you terror
thank you disillusionment
thank you frailty
thank you consequence
thank you thank you silence

how bout me not blaming you for everything
how bout me enjoying the moment for once
how bout how good it feels to finally forgive you
how bout grieving it all one at a time

thank you india
thank you terror
thank you disillusionment
thank you frailty
thank you consequence
thank you thank you silence

the moment I let go of it was the moment
I got more than I could handle
the moment I jumped off of it
was the moment I touched down

how bout no longer being masochistic
how bout remembering your divinity
how bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out
how bout not equating death with stopping

thank you india
thank you providence
thank you disillusionment
thank you nothingness
thank you clarity
thank you thank you silence

7945 – “To Jack Dillinger and hope he is still alive. Thanksgiving Day November 28th 1986”

Geotargethttp://scottobear.com/lj/archives/112703/hand-turkey.gif
Doing better this Thanksgiving over last year.

Bro’s not in jail, just the hospital, so he’s doing better, too.Maybe he can get some sort of useful rehab?

Getting together with Momster and Wilt for a midday TG buffet. Good deal. She doesn’t cook, and I don’t have to do dishes.

Random Scotto Factoid: I left home during Thanksgiving when I was 17. Weird to think that was over half my life ago.

If my father had lived, Saturday would’ve been his 60th birthday.

Happy Thanksgiving, Burroughs style: mp3

7879 – Allen Brothers also do the Jakewalk Blues

Ugh… warm again. No A/C, and sweat was rolling off of me in rivulets for a chunk of the evening. Thankfully, it cooled down as the night progressed. I swung by the flo for a nice big plate of french toast for supper, and enjoyed the dance of crossing three streets with no lights in getting home.

No trick-or-treaters, given the downed power areas / rain / curfew / lack of kidlets living in my neck of the woods. So, I have a nice sized bag of caramel creams to bring to the BSO today. This will probably be my last day off-site, as they expect power back to my office by 5pm. We’ll see if phones and water activate, too, but I suspect that it’ll all come up at the same time.

I’ll miss the BSO… we watched The Day The Earth Stood Still on the giant monitor yesterday. Cafeteria food gratis and laid back officemates. I’m enjoying it while I’ve got it.

7pm condo interview with Joyce at the clubhouse… she sounds nice on the phone.

Costumes seen yesterday that walked past the flo – A bevy of witches, (Wicked West style, big pointy hats, long black shawls) a guy in a suit & rubber GWB mask, and a few hippies (one in a punkinhead mask).

Moment of Lyric: RealAudio or Streamingvia honking duck (I think firpo will especially dig the site)

Come ‘ere Mama what’s on your mind
Daddy wants to love you but you won’t give time
Ain’t nuthin’ but a salty dog, no salty dog
Ha ha ha ha ha hey hey hey

7805 – midweek. hchello, hchello!

Then and Now Amusement park pics

bobbin' fer apples!

Bob, bob, bobbin’!

Paper model of the batmobile!

Cheered myself up with this moment of lyric – MP3

Walking down the street
with some evil in my eye
and some thoughts in my head
that were making me feel high
on my head was a hoodie
in my ears was some bass
was walking by my dog
when I saw that sexy face
come towards me
with a little cheeky smile
if she was a phone
I’d pick her up and dial
the fire brigade
or zero zero zero
she stopped me in my tracks
and I said ‘mmm hchello hchello…’

6939 – Templars!

Today being the October 13th, one could note the passing of the Templars:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar#Ruin

“On October 13, 1307, what may have been all the Knights Templar in France were simultaneously arrested by agents of Philip the Fair (Philippe le Bel), to be later tortured into admitting heresy in the Order. (Some believe this act to be the origin of superstition regarding Friday the 13th.) ”

The more conspiracy minded might also note that a modern incarnation of the Templars:

http://www.osmth.org/

Has a “Special Consultative Status” with the United Nations:

http://www.osmth.org/images/ngo.gif

And that the American Priory has been active in the Balkans:

http://www.smotj.org/charities/index.html

In the related area of helping Christians at risk, the Priory of St. Norbert of Chicago has been active in a very-much “hands-on” endeavor in Kosovo. The Priory of St. Norbert is in the process of collecting medical supplies for shipment to clinics in Kosovo. One of their Knights is serving in Kosovo on active duty with NATO forces.”

And I note that the point of contact email address for the NATO Priory is from the US Selective Service Administration ( for those outside the US, these are the guys who administer the Draft )

Hell of a cover for the Order of St. Jerome.

6932 – 2s-dee

Nice out, so I’m considering early-morning walkies before work.

Knowing how much I enjoy morning sleep, I suspect that my walks will end up in the evening.

Talked to Danny last night about unexplored areas of land on Earth. He thinks that pretty much every square mile of land has been physically touched by humans in some way or another, but I disagree.

I want to find a map or something of areas never touched.. Areas in Alaska, Africa, etc. Just to get an idea of what’s small pieces are left for explorers to uncover. I wonder.. there are some theories that say that 2-3 thousand years ago that the Congo was mostly grasslands.

Speaking of which – WASHINGTON (AP) — From lines scratched in ancient dirt to Medieval charts with drawings of monsters in unknown parts of the ocean to modern computer printouts, maps have served a vital role throughout human history.

Now, one of the nation’s most venerable mapmakers, the National Geographic Society, is updating its massive Atlas of the World. Continue reading 6932 – 2s-dee

6928 – Monday, Already?

Mr. Skeleton is ready for the season!

Went to the local Winn-Dixie for the first time (I usually shop at Publix)… The prices, selection and cleanliness at Publix are much better. The Winn-Dixie is new, but is already looking like a future “broken down” store. a few months of poor care, and it’ll look like an aged husk. I couldn’t be bothered to pick up anything that wasn’t pre-packaged as a result… I’ll have to hit my green-grocer up midweek, instead.

Weather outside is getting to be ideal. Cool enough to really enjoy long walks again.

I also swung by the library, just to sniff out any new DVDs that might be worth watching… friends of the library had a cart out front full of books and other media, marked 3/$1.00. I picked up a barely opened copy of Fleischer Popeye cartoons, Superman (the un-remastered ones), and a Marlon Brando Movie: One-eyed Jacks, for the grand total of $1. Not a bad haul, at all.

One-Eyed Jacks has a pretty prophetic fat joke made by Karl Malden in a sombrero to Marlon Brando.

Bonus on the Popeye DVD is a tour of Fleischer studios in Miami. Sort of neat to see local life 50 or more years ago. Popeye cracks me up… He and Bluto are at least medium level superheroes, but all they do is selfish stuff for the most part. (Run for president, Woo Olive Oyl, Just trying to get sleep, etc, etc) It’s also kind of odd that they’re both smokers.. pipe and cigar.

Sometimes I picture myself as the eye of the storm. I’m mostly a passive person, taking the path of least resistance to my goals. I can see disaster out on the fringes of my life, but things are generally calm where I tread. Brother is a different story… he’s fortunate, but is constantly in the midst of trouble, not just near it. Additionally, I also like to walk along the beach.

Monday Meeting. I have to somehow convince the big kahuna that mass e-mail marketing (SPAM) is *not* the way for us to look to raise awareness and open pocketbooks. The only people that make any money from the spam industry are folks that sell spam lists to people, and people who sell the “service” of pumping the bilge that is spam out to the poor public. I fear we will see no return on our investment of a list purchase, and worse, that our good name will be tossed in the dumper. I’ve tried explaining it in the past, but marketers seem to have more sway than my explaining how spam works in the real world. All I can do is stress my point again, and ask people what *they* do when they see a strange email in the box…. *delete*. Maybe explaining that they’ll be blocked by the bigger orgs will do the trick.

Dad’s Home – This makes me smile. Super Powers, Insanity, and a smiling man rocking out.

Reefer man lyrics

6927 – Sundee AM

Long Bets, interesting way to look into the future. Predictions

One Featured Prediction – “By 2025 at least 50% of all U.S. citizens residing within the United States will have some form of technology embedded in their bodies for the purpose of tracking and identification.” 22 years is a long time… and sakes, I hope not. I don’t mind carrying global tracking ID (Cell phone, wireless palmtop, security key fob) but no, don’t implant anything, thanks. I feel funny about Newt being chipped, but he can’t say who he is if he gets lost.

Frederik Ruysch (1638-1731) was a Dutch anatomist and a pioneer in techniques of preserving organs and tissue. In addition to his scientific contributions, he made artistic arrangements of his material. He had his own museum of curiosities, and among the displays were a number of dioramas assembled from body parts and starring melodramatic fetal skeletons. A few of these were captured in meticulous detail “drawn from life” by the engraver Cornelius Huyberts. These engravings were inserted as foldouts in various early 18th century editions of Ruysch’s works.

A second arena of creativity for Ruysch was creating natural history assemblages to decorate the tops of jars of preserved animal specimens. None of these assemblages or the dioramas are known to have survived to the present day. However, Ruysch had a third medium, which was the preservation of decorated babies in jars. The story of these works and haunting photographs by Rosamond Purcell are found in “Finders, Keepers: Treasures and Oddities of Natural History”
