9011 – tues

I want a pumpkin and chocolate doughnut.

Attention Christmas Decorations… BACK OFF! It’s just barely October! Let me have pumpkins and harvest stuff for a while, why don’t ya? Sakes. Lots of neighbors have purple and orange fairy lights out… pretty keen to be in a region with folks in the seasonal spirit…. a “haunted house” is being rigged up at two blocks over, and another at the local fire station… looking forward to that, too.

Speaking of which: I just remembered and trotted out the Halloween background for the website. I really need to work on that some more.

Got another set of fillings today. Front teeth look a lot better now, though the doc couldn’t seem to numb one of them… I had a distinct Dustin Hoffman / Marathon Man vibe going for a about 15 minutes.

Is it safe?

Ow.

That said, he did a great job aside from the pain, and I’m very happy now that there are no open nerves with easy air access in my head.

On the way home, we visited “the man” at ATW – see prior entry for photo. He’s Oktoberfesting!

Ahh, rise and shine, Washington! It’s another beautiful fall day, so stretch and breathe in deep … but not too deep, unless you enjoy inhaling some of the worst air in the nation. Scientists are putting numbers on information our lungs already knew: the D.C. area “produces more carbon dioxide than several medium-size European countries,” the Post reports. This is due primarily to Maryland’s coal-burning power plants and our stand-still traffic, though the study notes that this doesn’t include other greenhouse gases, like methane. Still, seems like investing in asthma inhalers isn’t a bad bet.

Calvert County fair is this weekend… I don’t know if I’m up to it, but we can surely check it out.

I haven’t eaten anything more solid than blueberry yogurt since Tuesday. I think that I’ll be up for something with a bit more texture by the time the weekend is over, though. Tonight’s meal of soft noodley-cheesy-tomato-saucy goodness was just right. Salad was a little hard on the throat, but not bad!

Watched Revenge of The Pink Panther with the in-laws and Louise… we quickly crashed out.

Hey! Cthulhu is in the Chesapeake Bay! There’s how we can get Colin to visit! 🙂

Relaxing nighttime plans for BHK and me the coming week or so ahead:

Yo-yo Girl Cop, The Number 23, and a few rousing games of Penguin Soccer, Martian Chess and Zamboni Wars over popcorn should set us right. Tucking into bed early so we can be up for tomorrow’s Bluegrass Festival.

BHK has been excelling at boardgames lately, especially territory types like Othello(Reversi), Ponte del Diavolo , Just 4 Fun and as always, Pente(we both seem to prefer the 2 or 3-capture variant Keryo-Pente). I still am partial to Hexxagon, Hey-That’s my Fish, and Carcassone H&G (She also is superb at those) – I’m really beginning to dig War of the Roses, which I wouldn’t mind tweaking a bit into an Icehouse/treehouse game.

Speaking of games… Talisman is back? I wonder if they fixed some of the unbalancing aspects, or if they’re remaining true to the original.

Virtually no homeless issues in North Beach… mainly because there’s no support system here… however, I’ve noticed that there are many, many tent cities under the bridges in DC, especially near to the subway track zones. I had my first experience with a guy coming onto the subway, and doing the “may I have your attention, would someone please give me 25 cents so I can get a bus at the next stop?” – I hadn’t seen that since riding the bus in Broward / Dade.

Trip to the doc implies some work to be done. Dentally, I need a mouthful of fillings. Elsewhere, I need to work on my weight, my allergies, my back and leg.

All things in time – Got a few fillings yesterday I need to do 2 or 3 more visits. the bridge and cracked tooth will be dealt with in January.

Random find. A solar-powered bible. Perfect for the Christian Castaway, I guess!

Oh, come on… now the smeller is blamed rather than the smelly? Stinky is in the nose of the sniffer? I’ll leave out the almost obligatory sci-fi / gaming convention comment.

Thinking good thoughts for mootpoint, Mol, and Dominic.

Payday! Just in time, as BHK and I both got to the doc and I get a pair of fillings on my right side. BHK’s teeth are jim-dandy… remember to floss!

I grabbed this from yoames / phillykat / pilarcruz and countless others.

1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/.
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their “Career Matchmaker” questions.
4. Post your top ten results.

Here’s mine – (I kept going, to answer all the questions. My first pass had a lot more computer/social worker stuff)

  1. Epidemiologist – Sounds interesting, but I don’t have *any* solid training for it. Could come in handy for the coming zombie apocalypse… or preventing one! Best case, already in a clean house-type bunker. Worst case, that’s where the epidemic starts. I guess if I worked for a villain, before dying, I could at least say that I worked in a lair fashioned inside of a dormant volcano, under the sea in a bubble-city, or from a satellite lab in high-earth orbit.
  2. Oceanographer – I still haven’t finished reading Fluke, but I do enjoy marine biology. I imagine the optimal life doing that sort of thing… maybe like an idyllic remake of the Flipper TV or Jonny Quest. Living in the keys, fighting pirates, discovering sea-monsters, etc. Would I get a hydrofoil and cool gadgets?
  3. Anthropologist – Humans are pretty fascinating critters. I suspect that I’d be more interested in this than Oceanographer. Field work at the ocean would be more palatable to me, though. Again with the Jonny Quest. Maybe with a little less or Race Bannon’s “Take that, you heathen savages!” I will, however accept bad guys that die with a scream of “AIeeee!” as they fall from a cliff, get disemboweled by Yeti, or are shot by whatever helpful bodyguard/guide-types are along for the ride.
  4. Writer – I try to do that here and again, but the time factor keeps popping up. I really need to devote an hour a day to it, and I simply don’t have the will to set aside the time to do it properly. I’ll always love doing it, but I’d have to have a way to support myself and my family if it were my full-time gig. I know quite a few writers, both professional, “wannabe” pro, and strong amateur, most of them very talented at word-craft. Given the amount of junk writing that’s out there, I’m fairly confident that I could find a niche with the right publicist. Also would be handy for “Murder, HE wrote” mysteries later in life. If Angela Lansbury can do it, so can I.
  5. Botanist – I do like plants. Do I like ’em enough to make them my life? Not sure. The Sea and Humans certainly have more of my interest. Now, if it were the phytoplankton people from Atlantis, I guess I’d be set… especially if they need some Research done on their databases. see below. I know what happens to Botanists. Ask Jason Woodrue, Ted Sallis, Alec Holland, Pam Isley, or any of dozens of folks turned into plant-critters, green psychos, pod people or muck-encrusted mockeries of men. Maybe when pot is legal, or if I lived on the planet Mardru.
  6. Library Technician – been there, done that. Fun and rewarding if you surround yourself with the right people. (true of most any job, really) It can be pretty thankless, and while I like books, I’m a far stretch from Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode.
  7. Historian – So very variable. Some parts of the past are amazing… other bits are deadly dull. Plus, the pay issue again- I imagine it’s difficult to live on the average historian’s wages. How do I become an authority?
  8. Researcher – If I could make any good, livable wage doing this for an organization that wasn’t a super-villain, I’d probably dig it. Depends on the research, though… do I really want data about women’s shoe sizes, and how they compare to hemlines? Fairly close to historian, Above. Job description is too vague.
  9. Database Developer – Heck, that’s a chunk of what I’m doing in my gig right now! I enjoy the challenges and solving the puzzles that arise in most of the larger builds that I’ve had to do.
  10. Multimedia Developer – I’ve dabbled with this… seems like a very competitive field to get a gig that’s worthwhile.

Web Developer, Systems Programmer and such all appear in the top 40, further down the list.

Limited edition Raspberry M&M’s are pretty good. Not amazing, but not too shabby. I prefer the holiday mint ones….and wouldn’t mind if they did orange-chocolate M’s.

Getting this entry out of the way early, as I don’t forsee much computer time tonight… see two lines up. I’m looking forward to a nice evening of Movies and games in our little treehouse loft, or in the living room. (depending on our desire to watch stuff on the laptop or the dvd player.

[edit – Strike that, we had Chinese at in-laws and watching “Because I said so”. Maybe Games and yo-yo tomorrow! Good food and good company tonight – movie was meh.]

Until Saturday-ish, dear journal!

It feels like it should be Thursday. Ah well, it will be, soon enough.

I keep getting demoted to craftsman…ah well, not a bad level to be at, yucata wise.

Went to Mexico restaurant, with BHK and Mother in-law for dinner – BHK still a bit under the weather, but I think that she liked getting out of the house. We talked for a long time with the owner after our meal… he’s a nice guy, and his family owns 10 restaurants across VA-MD. Apparently he grew up not too far from where BHK did, displaced by about 7 years or so. MIL Is surprisingly naive about some things while pretty dang about others… She’s got an odd mix of Metro awareness and old-school unawareness regarding stuff about low income regions and behaviors that make me worry a little bit that she’s working in DC.

The resulting tale plays with the fossil record in approximately the same way an episode of Xena plays with history, but without Renee O’Connor. Alas.

It’s mesmerizing, in its way.

no doubt some more choice ones were available beyond the locked gate.

Opted out of the game convention, as we were slow to rise, and it was shutting down at 2pm. If it had been going until 6 or later, maybe we’d have tagged it. One Car wars game does not a journey validate!

BHK got a new camera, as her old one has pretty much bought the farm. Not bad, $99 Samsung – if it works well for us, I’ll pick up another for myself. I’m just delighted that you can get 2 gig SP cards for about $17, too. about 1200 pictures if taken at 6 mega-pixels… more than enough for casual snaps and fun photos.

Had lunch at Mexico, but we opted out of the road trip to WV… both of us were feeling sort of out of it. Instead, we went to the in-laws for a bit, to review the recently jellied grapes, and just say hi.

After our stop off at the in-laws, to look at jelly, we returned home to eat leftovers from the week (italian, mexican, chinese) and watch The Host. It was a good movie, but not what either of us was expecting. There was certainly a strong amount of allegory there. The CGI was very impressive for the most part, and I liked the basic story, even without the deeper-level tale reflected throughout. I’m pretty impressed with the beastie’s design and acrobatic-style feats. furthermore, I really dug that there was no direct setup for a sequel… it was a self-contained tale, and nothing more has to be done with it… that said, I’m sure that since it’s been so successful that a sequel or two will be made. I wonder that if so, will there be more political type stuf fin the wash, or will it give way to a plain monster movie?

The director, Bong Joon-ho, commented on the issue: “It’s a stretch to simplify The Host as an anti-American film, but there is certainly a metaphor and political commentary about the U.S.”

Still in a Rennie sort of mood, we plopped Gamerz into the DVD player, and started with a movie. I think the film was good, but the shadowplay gaming sequences and the fact that they all had actual Scottish accents probably raised it up from three and a half to four stars out of five. I think that they fairly pegged a few of the internal workings of a game group pretty darn well – Perhaps more like EMAGE [the group with AP, RI, HI, BG, and RobbC more than the 90’s group with GP, Kat, PM or alternates DougW, KathyW & DanC – with short termers of Kelly, DonM, Ed, RikL, RickC and Tony.]

HI (or now HG, I guess since she divorced RI married BG after becoming preggo with BG’s kid *DRaaaahmaaaah*) –

The elf chick in the movie was a pretty entertaining blend of the more negative sides of H’s flittery “look at me, I’m full of BS” and KathyW’s “Look at my Character! It’s me! I’m full of insanity” personality-wise. I could draw pretty solid connective lines to the others in that group, too, including myself.

Went on a fun drive hither and yon today… Went no place in particular, but discovered some new lands North and West of Baltimore. Nice time tooling around the Enchanted forest, where we took some photos (to follow later ) and I got a haircut at the Enchanted forest haircuttery… followed by a grilled cheese and pancakes for BHK and me at the Enchanted forest diner. Interesting place… I look forward to our follow up road trip to Elioak Farm, to see the refurbished elements. The food was good, but I suspect the grill hadn’t been scraped since opening in 1957.

If you look carefully, you can see the sugar-cone cottage deep in the middle of kudzu forest.

We forgot to hit the DC game night – And they were playing Apples to Apples, Lunch Money and Zendo! I would really like to go to the next one, if it fits into our work / play schedule. It’s a bit of a journey… Maybe 90 minutes or so – But for a Saturday of games and meeting a few new folks, it could be good!

I still need to swing by and check out the Maryland Gamers Annapolis location, too.

Swung by the in-laws and watched Hot Fuzz, and started Night at the Museum .. Bhk and I lost steam about 20 minutes into it, and headed home.

8968 – sunday funday!

Still too hot to do much of anything out and about in the Crisco soup-like atmosphere, so we opted to take in lunch at the Sbarro’s in the Annapolis Mall and then hit a movie. Who knows why we woke up at 7:30 on a Sunday, but it gave us a solid head start.

We finally caught the Simpsons Movie on the big screen… I was surprised – it was a lot better than I was expecting… pretty solid TV episode from back when it was funny. We only saw 3 bits that would make it warrant a PG-13 rating – an instance of nudity, a curse word (or two) and some drinking / drug use. I could see them showing all of it after 10pm on network tv unedited, or without those three instances any time at all.

On the way home, we noticed that ATW has changed the sign again, as the search for “the man” continues. (atw is now a tag just for my ease of searching the story thread and pictures, now.)

BHK Birthday Part II: Electric boogaloo!
allisonbdaycake

Party at Tina’s place… Mexican food! Both Meat and veggie protein varieties – Tina’s not a big carnivore, either. Matt (her new boy) seems like a nice enough fellow and I hope they have maximum fun / minimum glum together. He’s certainly more social and generally conversational than DR or W. Dessert was yellow birthday cake with chocolate icing, compared favorably to yesterday’s lemon cake with lemon icing. Added bonus, BHK’s mom didn’t absent-mindedly start slurping the frosting off of the removed candles like last night, rather than giving them to the b’day girl to taste.

Aside from Tina and Matt, Adam, Jimmy, Louise, Chris and Larry all made it to celebrate. We fit pretty comfortably at Tina’s townhouse… I wasn’t sure if we’d all be able to manage, but it worked out quite well.

BHK’s Loot received:

from Louise : Necklace and bracelet of multi-colored pearls.
from Tina : A pair of Peridot Earrings / Hello Kitty purse (which looks like ms. kitty is making a gesture I’m sure wasn’t intentional)
from Larry & Chris – Red Coral necklace and Earrings / and some lovely crockery
from Danny – A swell looking green-stoned ring in gold. (and he got Tina some yellow-stoned earrings, too!)
from my Mom and Wilt – Turquoise and silver necklace, Halloween Snow globe, a little cornucopia and a really lovely card.
from me – a lot of knickknacks – Grease & Grease 2, a pair of pink pseudo-crocks, some stripy socks that mismatch/match, a pink headband with little jolly rogers, bath scrubbie, black cat bowl, a green wire basket, some fuzzy slippers and a gift cert to scalped.

I’m the only person that didn’t get her any jewelry… she told me specifically *not* to get her any. Now, I understand why.

May’ve recruited Adam and Jimmy into a parlor game night. Who knows, maybe they’ll lure Kendall and Amanda into it, too, and we’ll have a big night of it sometime!

I don’t know if Matt is into parlor games… I do know he digs the Redskins and is willing to put up with chick flicks. come to think of it, I don’t know for sure if Tina is interested in boardgames or not… I suspect that she, like the in-laws aren’t really into abstract games. Louise is a good candidate, but is harder to reel in to a date or time than the teens. The last time we saw her was her birthday, about 6 weeks ago.

Poor Danny has students in his classes now – he’s back to running the Sci-fi club, and is incorporating Pirates into the after school program. I should send him a bucket of heroclix or mage knight commons/doubles as a donation. He really liked the Superhero stamps and Lord of the Rings Risk game we shot off to him a little while back.

Slow, comfy day at the grotto. Left the house just long enough to get the mail (Car Wars Card game came in!), some Chinese food for dinner, and pineapple-orange juice for BHKs sore throat. Not much to report today, dear journal… green line broke down on the way to work, but fortunately, I wasn’t late, due to my habit of being one ahead (learned via broward county – same rule applies – better early than late!) Payday today! just in time considering some untimely bills snuck up on us.

Pomonkey and Ripley are at their new foster parents place today – BHK and I are sad to see ’em go, but I think our allergies really started to get kicking… pretty timely send off for ’em.

BHK made a spectacular supper of stuffed shells, garlic bread, and salad for us – the in-laws went out for their 32nd (I think) wedding anniversary, so she and I had a nice private night at home to watch cheesy movie The Covenant. Not bad in a goofy flick sort of way. Sort of a cheap hybrid of the Matrix meets the Craft.

After work yesterday we hit Aardvark to pick up some Icehouse pieces. We were in some serious luck, as he gave a ton to us at a very high discount. We got 2 monochrome stashes of Red, 2 of Blue, a Clear, a Yellow, and an Opaque White, (5 different colors, 7 sets), a stack of freebie Ice7 cards, plus Playing with Pyramids, and The Empty City – I think we gobbled up all of his warehouse’s Looney Stock. We also put in an order for Early American Chrononauts for pickup sometime next week.

Post Aardvark, it was a nibble at the In-laws for a little Chinese food , and Monk -watching. Unfortunately, it got a little hot, and my allergies started to kick up before I could watch Burn Notice (we did that tonight – with more garden veggies , crab cakes, tempura and Special Guest star Adam back from his mission work.). I’m glad insurance started 8/1 – time to hit the doc.

No real hits of friendship amnesty day… but maybe later.

Watched the “My Super Sweet 16” movie the other night, too … I had no idea that they made a movie *based* on a reality show…I thought it’d just be semi-scripted but actual spoiled bratty girls, not a full-blown production. Things of note – A lot of the sped-up time to zip into scene and zip out… and poor Neelix and Roddy Piper star in it! Do kids today actually use Internet-chat acronyms when they talk? Actually say Oh EM Gee, or is that some MTV fuddy-duddy’s idea of being cool?

Did I just say “kids today”? Criminy… I’m turning into a geezer.

Today, BHK and I put in an order for filler stashes of Orange, Purple, Black and Cyan, a pair of treehouse dice and some Martian Coasters straight from the Labs.

Tricycle’s Daily Dharma:

The Theory of Karma

The theory of karma should not be confused with so-called “moral justice” or “reward and punishment.” The idea of moral justice, or reward and punishment, arises out of the conception of a supreme being, a God, who sits in judgment, who is a law-giver and who decides what is right and wrong. The term “justice” is ambiguous and dangerous, and in its name more harm than good is done to humanity. The theory of karma is the theory of cause and effect, of action and reaction; it is a natural law, which has nothing to do with the idea of justice or reward and punishment. Every volitional action produces its effects or results. If a good action produces good effects and a bad action bad effects, it is not justice, or reward, or punishment meted out by anybody or any power sitting in judgment on your action, but this is in virtue of its own nature, its own law. This is not difficult to understand. But what is difficult is that, according to karma theory, the effects of a volitional action may continue to manifest themselves even in a life after death.

If you click this link you can read all about Jon Lovitz’s recent beating of the tar out of Andy Dick. (Karma? Nah.)

Tonight, BHK and Amy picked me up after almost being squashed like bugs with hair in ponytails by the Father-in-law’s poorly planned car-moving scheme. Fortunately, they were neither compressed under tons of steel and rubber, nor were they kneecapped by a renegade trailer careening off into the next world. I think that if the MiL finds out, poor FiL is going to get quite an earful.

We journeyed off to the Giant-man store (no relation to Hank Pym ) and I got a 2 pair of Deer Stags, one in brown and one in black. That should take care of wardrobe for a bit. They seem pretty comfortable – I hope they last a bit longer than my usual wear and tear.

After that, BHK, Amy and I all went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix linked, in case you haven’t heard of it, dear journal. Taken on its own, I liked it. Of course, when I read the book, I thought it was in dire need of editing, and parsing it down to a movie script seems to have done a good job of trimming the fat. My biggest complaint is that it seems that the thespian playing Hermione has forgotten most of her acting lessons.

Off to Johnny Rockets for burger and fries – I like that they’ll do any of the stuff they have in a boca burger. It’s seldom that I can get a double cheeseburger with the works when I’m out. Bonus – Movie stubs got us 20% off the bill. Bigger bonus – Amy paid the bill!

Yesterday, we unpacked a few things from the Salem house, including BHK’s old yearbook from 4th grade, and a lot of her drawings circa 5-yrs old, 10 yr old and points in between. I’m glad we got to keep ’em.

It rarely fails to surprise how much music can energize me. Thanks again for the summer mix, Matt!

Best word about current media frenzy – Potterdämmerung. That is *perfect*. I figure that I’ll get around to reading it eventually, but I’ll blaspheme by using the public library (or if BHK wants to own a copy, I’ll read hers when she’s done.) I don’t really care who lives or who dies, but I am interested in seeing how it all wraps up. I’m almost more interested in knowing what the “next big thing” will be, now that this is essentially all over; not counting the remaining movies, spin-offs, comics and whatnot.

We had a nice, luxuriously casual post-party day.

Originally, we intended to brunch with Cyn, but it seems that Joss doesn’t have a Sunday brunch… besides, we’re all sleepyheads anyhow. (Plus, Cyn was shaking off the effects of her prior-night’s festivities.)

Instead, we opted to head to the new Jasper’s (sort of a Bennigan’s-type place), and munch some lunch. It was a mixed bag, but mostly good, I think. The bar area has 12 hypnotically eye-attracting TVs… even if just golf is showing on-air. I was more distracted by the pseudo-southwestern-indian rhino-sculpture with the bright red tail. Unfortunate choice of color for that region, as Cyn’s first thought was urzbeeubvq, and mine was nany svfghyn. Hover over the text or use rot-13 to translate.

Apparently whenever we three get together, there’s a common conversational theme that tends to crop up. I will not be linking to the terms Filthy Sanchez, Tony Danza, Cleveland Steamer, Dutch Oven or Satchmo… but if you do search for them, I’ll just say it’s not safe for work. (see the prior paragraph’s last six words or so for a starter concept.

The food varied in quality – the veggie burger was probably my favorite, after the sweet potato. Crab dip was not the best, and that’s going to be tough for ’em, given that this is crab country. The partner visited our table and asked how everything was…. and we gave a lot of compliments and a fair amount of criticism. I think that he appreciated our input, and that they’ll do very well.

Since I haven’t uploaded the rhino picture yet, here’s a honeymoon photo of me in touristy-black socks & shorts, golfing with a gorilla, and BHK being beautiful in St. Augustine. I love that pic of her… it just makes me smile every time I look at her.

BHK and I watched Apocalypto across three houses, due to assorted cat-sitting duties for Tigger, Kiki and Chai – and polished off the last of it in our living room while munching on leftover party food. I really liked it. The story was really secondary to the setting and activity inside. The costume designer did a phenominal job, and if you get the dvd, check out “the making of” section. There were some moments that could’ve been scripted better, but the visuals were absolutely beautiful. I really liked that all of the actors were unknown to me – it made it much easier for me to take the characters as they were, rather than “that’s the Rock, and Robin Williams, and Robert DeNiro!” Definately the best art direction that I can remember seeing in a film recently.

We never did get around to playing lunch money or Chez goth – we’ll learn with Amy tomorrow! (if she doesn’t prefer to play pirates, or video games) – I hear she’s got a giant shark to trot out for our next battle.

New games BHK and I have or will be getting in the near future, in a loose order of when we’ll be playing ’em:

(I’ve also started a freebie account at superdupergames – mainly to try out online ice house sprawl – maybe BHK will start hitting it like we did with pente.net lots of stuff to choose from!)

  • We may get a treehouse die depending on how we get our pyramids.
  • you can play with a regular d6 – 1 tip, 2 swap, 3 hop, 4 dig, 5 aim, 6 wild
  • Stonehenge (5 games), and If I dig it.. (and why wouldn’t I? Check out the production diary) the Stonehenge Expansion (3 more games)
  • Polarity (thanks to keethrax)

    8914 – Friday the 13th!

It was beautiful, foggy morning on the way to the train station. (not my image, but cool, nonetheless). Lots of mist hanging, especially over the water.

Saw Fantastic Four – Silver Surfer after work with BHK, and it was a fun little bit of entertainment.

Cool! The DC Train maps are now on google!(via dcist)

We’re not going to Salem this weekend. Instead, I think we’re just going to cool our collective jets, and regroup a bit.

I’ve been watching season 6 of The Shield on my commute to and from work lately… and the writing is still quite good. I think the child molester subplot was a bit transparent, but aside from that, it has been interesting seeing what’s going on with Vic’s crew. It sounds like they’re already wrapping up season seven, now, even though the sixth was supposed to be the final one.

After I whittle that one down my travel show is going to be The Riches, I think. Never did catch up with that on the Tivo upstairs, and BHK seems to have lost interest.

Positive thing about summer. Local corn. The best I’ve ever had, anywhere. Seriously, it’s amazing.

I’m really loving the local corn crop.

By the way, to my anonymous commenter: Not everyone in the world is racist. Not everyone in the world is sexist. “All [insert skin color / gender / geographic point of origin / religious belief / sexual preference / whatever here] stick together” is untrue. Sure, there are a lot of ’em, but humans lack cooperation on that level. Not to say that *a lot* might. Special interest groups, Armies, and the like. If you could get *any* group of people of that size to really work together, the world would be a different place – and probably a scary one, since I don’t tend to agree with any one group’s agenda.

Atheists can cuss by taking someone else’s lord’s name in vain. It’s not like snarling “Random Chance!” or “Darwin!” is nearly as good as Jesus Christ come to think of it… blurting “Vishnu”, “Zeus” or “Zoroaster” is sort of dorky sounding too. David and Abraham are in too much usage to be any good, either. Solomon?

Maybe I’ll just stick to Comic Book / Cartoon Exclamations… Merciful Rao! Sufferin’ Sappho/Succotash! Leapin’ Lizards! Sweet Christmas! Good Grief! Great Hera! By Crom!

I am guilty of saying “My Stars” – not due to Henry McCoy, but Samantha Stevens.

By the Vishanti is too cumbersome. Imperious Rex is just dopey. Dumber than saying Spoooon! in fact.

I do like to say Zoroaster, though. It’s a fun name. Zoroaster. Say it with me, dear journal. Zoroaster. Zarathustra, in the native.

If we were to ever get a gray kitten, I’d like to name him Zoroaster. (That is not to say that we’re getting a gray kitten any time soon.)

Regarding this article about faith and democratic candidates … I can’t get the phrase “Pillory Hillary” out of my head.
