It’s such a pleasant surprise to see a rational, human response to the screw-up yesterday. I’m really glad that it was received as well as it was.

Just noticed a cool name subscribed to my journal… Sernya. (it’s a pair of golden fish, Symbolizing resurrection of eternal life, rebirth etc. The pair signifies the ability to swim with ease without obstruction in the ocean of this world. They may also be taken to symbolize the eye of perception as fish can see through muddy water. The fish couple suggests mutual aid and indispensability between male and female material life.) I wonder who they are, and if I know them?

I hear Hagrid is sort of a second-string character in the latest HP. That’s sort of a bummer, he’s my fave. I wonder if having such a huge franchise is allowing her to write stuff that’s an 870 page children’s book. Sounds like an editor is needed.

Groceries coming by between 1:10-2:10, Dan’s Coming by today sometime midday…after he registers at FAU. Hooray for key lime pie and Danny!

I don’t watch Smallville, but I hear that they got Terence Stamp (General Zod) to Play Jor-El recently. How keen is that to a Fanboy?

Gravity Defied with ‘Spider-Man’ Gloves –

No Tropical Oils, Fortified with 9 Essential Vitamins and Minerals

Does anything marketed today worry about Tropical oils anymore?

My Knee got creaky last night…I hope it’s not more damaged than I first thought. It was giving easily. (Though, maybe I’m working it hard than I was before, too)… Newt woke me extra early with his morning paw swabbing, and the Knee is still not the sturdiest. I’m a little concerned how that’ll be when I move to a new apartment, and may opt to stay here another month as a result. Now that I’m up and about, He’s sleeping on the bathroom windowsill. If I were a vengeful sort, I’d poke him until he had to get up, in reciprocation… but being the softie that I am, I won’t tell him to move until I need to take a shower… and even then I’ll cut him some slack, until I feel dingy to the point of saying Enough is enough.

The infrared Zoo – Infrared light shows us the heat radiated by the world around us. By viewing animals with a thermal infrared camera, we can actually “see” the differences between warm and cold-blooded animals. Infrared also allows us to study how well feathers, fur and blubber insulate animals. As you tour this “Infrared Zoo”, see what new information you can gather about the animals here that you would not get from a visible light picture. Enjoy your tour!

Oprah + Sex = heehee. An entertaining explanation of oral sex from the Oxygen Network. Not likely work safe, unless you work at a sex-counseling center.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Tuesday he favors developing new technology to *remotely destroy* the computers of people who illegally download music from the Internet.

The surprise remarks by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, during a hearing on copyright abuses represent a dramatic escalation in the frustrating battle by industry executives and lawmakers in Washington against illegal music downloads.

Reflections from the semi-moist

CNN has a weird news section now. Pretty, because they have higher production values than Reuter’s “Oddly Enough” which is my other fun wacky news source.

Playing with the eviltron Rubik’s cube, while my hair dries from the shower. I really like the astronauts. I still have a tiny keychain cube around here somewhere, too. Rubik’s too calm and placid? Go run over pedestrians, then. Especially with the groovy soundtrack it has. My best score there to date is 105 little dead German senior citizens.

Also see bookworm… scrabble meets bejeweled. if it becomes available for the palm, I’m in trouble.

Randomly placed Pirate ghost with space-laser sword - ARrr! He Has nothing to do with any of the text in this entry. The moon was beautiful last night, as was the quiet chirping of crickets in accompaniment. my thoughts were pleasant as I drifted off to sleep, thinking of her nestled close… a peaceful, blissful time to be sure. Awake and in the daylight now, some overflow remains…I’m going to keep and hold that seed of calm, and mentally try to get it to bloom over me today. Things at work have been a little pesky lately, and I carry thoughts of her as a touchstone to keep me happy and tranquil. I want to give her cow tales, hold her in my arms, and tell her how much I love her.

Work has begun on my second variation of my beloved in miniature… still in the planning stages. I wonder if cellophane will work as the more transparent aspects of the new costume? This one may take a while to develop properly.

Had a moment of stupidity yesterday, but I think that I’ve successfully squelched it. it hasn’t reared it’s ugly head today, much to my relief

There’s some sort of flu-bug going around work, making folks icky-sicky here and there. It’s tagged Island Boy, Chupa, Kev and I’m not sure who else. My eyes were burning a little yesterday, but that seems to have faded. I’ll be happy if it bypasses the rest of the gang… a few people going on vacation in the next week or two… (Myself included) they don’t need boogie-snots to mess it up. If Zombies walked the earth, I’d wear a helmet.

Erica came by tonight with Bailey, so that he and Dexter could run around and play, while she caught us up on what’s new in her life… work/school/dance pretty much. She mentioned that she’s looking for an after-hours job…I don’t know how she can handle that sort of workload… you’d think that she’d like four free hours a week to rest and recover. I suspect that she’s tight for money right now, though.

Picture of Dexter And Bailey tonight, after hours

Mst3k really lost a lot of oomph when Dr Forrester was totally replaced by Pearl…Just not the same vibe.

Hmm.. there’s an iPod for windows, now. Still a little expensive for a super-walkman, though… three to five bills, depending on storage. That tells me that a variant will appear in about a year for half that or less.

Now… Hubzilla, on the other hand is cute and affordable. 🙂 However, I think I could get a regular hub and gut a ‘zilla toy here for about 1/3 the price, if I wanted to go for cheap.

This made my morning. A Tribute to Ray Harryhausen. Mixed Media makes me smile. Is it wrong for me to be proud that I have a few of the introductory characters in my collection?

Nifty progress in Cancer research.

I’m looking forward to a restful, comfy weekend. This week has been a bit of a grind. I’ve put in for having a long Halloween break, too. The 31st, and 11/1 off.

Hey! Someone made a Newton Screensaver. That’s not my Buddy, though it is an orange tabby.

Looks like Tropical Storm Isidore is going to get us wet, but not blown. Still pretty variable… Rainfall estimates ranged from 3 to 25 inches. Feet of rain! I’m glad that I live someplace with good drainage! (We’ve already lowered the canals to be extra ready.) We’re already 10 inches above normal this year.

Realvideo weather channel clip

Found a new nearby hobby store… maybe I can get some custom terrain there at a reasonable cost. They’re open on Sundays! Hoody-hoo!

I put a bunch of my old magic cards up on mkrealms’ neutral grounds for trade… maybe I’ll find a MtG monkey that will give me toys (or even spending money) for my cardboard!

Sometimes I think that Newt’s Amber eyes are turning just the littlest bit green…but it might just be a trick of the light.

Speed of light broken with basic lab kit. I’m not as interested in the applications of this so much (since, as the article says, it doesn’t mean we’ll have warp drives or time machines anytime soon) as the low cost & ease of doing it. It’s like Edison & Tesla!

Carpe Vultus – Man is driving car. Man has seizure. Man crashes car into Woman’s car. Woman sues – not for the damage done to her car (one would assume insurance covers that), but because she was freaked out by the bizarre faces Man Having Seizure was making. Woman wins, Man has to pay £3,500 in compensation. Ugh… well, at least it’s not in the USA this time…we can point fingers at other legal systems for stupid lawsuits too.

I forgot until I was out the door this morning that it was vote-day! So much for getting to work terribly early. I managed to avoid all the tech-trouble that many of the stations were having today.

I won my ebay auction… so I should be getting more little figures than I’ll ever need, for cheapy-cheap. 🙂 Toys! Yay! Fun!

Where’s my PM thunderstorms?

Computer-controlled music played on explosion organs. – Remember that church organ that I thought looked like it was designed to fire projectiles at the listeners?

The Large Hot Pipe Organ is the world’s only MIDI controlled, propane powered explosion organ. The LHPO’s pyro-acoustic explodo-rhythmations will throbbatize your earholes and dance-ify your booty and make you realize what “Industrial Music” REALLY means!

Cool Doodles by Stanislaw Lem – I especially liked the Skeleton of a Procyte

I’m going to turn in a little early… I think a good long night of rest is in order. The vertigo passed about noonish today, but I had no real appetite… I’m going to put a little fuel in the body, just for doing so, and then it’s reading and playing with the Newtzilla before beddy-bye.

you are in my power….

monkey by mail. (sought after getting mail order seahorse ads from my sweetheart)

find more here and here.

Will you kiss me in the dark, baby? hmmm… maybe I’ll try that on her.

Hee… I remember this one, especially. I wonder how many kids were ripped off as a result. woo… $7 sub!

China is prototyping new genetic ID cards.

This color genotype ID card, about twice the size of ordinary ID card, has on it data such as photo, birth date, nationality and gender. In particular it is marked with 18 internationally used genetic locus which are chosen from the long chain of human cytogenetic information carrier DNA molecules. In the combination of the 18 genetic locus, with the exception of one egg giving birth to twins, it is difficult for one to find out such a circumstance wherein two persons out of 10 billion people are completely the same.

Human remains can be made into diamonds? and from – http://lifegems.com/

“A LifeGem is a certified, high quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one as a memorial to their unique and wonderful life.

The LifeGem diamond is more than a memorial to visit on the weekends or place on a shelf… it is a way to embrace your loved one’s memory day by day. The LifeGem is the most unique and timeless memorial available for creating a testimony to their unique life.

We hope and believe that your LifeGem memorial will offer comfort and support when and where you need it, and provide a lasting memory that endures just as a diamond does. Forever.”

Well… I like to have and carry a memento or two of loved ones, but this is sort of along the lines of wearing the finger bone of your favorite aunt, or a necklace of your mom’s teeth. A trifle ghoulish. I wonder how long that’s been available? It would also make a good explanation for some of the famous cursed diamonds… That ain’t any normal diamond, that’s the remains of an Atlantean sorcerer!

I’ve gotten off to a good start with the website… I have a brochure to work from. (they need to reprint the brochure, too… typos, grammar errors, and layout problems of it’s own)… note to self, get it to Dave, and have him bring the company a quote for doing it right.

Aww… the spider-man delivery guys are doing Austin Powers now… Bah on marvel’s picking on them!

Happy tree friends… ok, so they made me laugh, and they’re evil. It happens. Flash cartoons. I especially like petunia, the skunk, with her car-deodorizer necklace.

Time for this cowboy to saddle up… until tonight, dear journal.

Why drug dealers shouldn’t call 1-900 numbers.

oh, Miss Cleo… you’re in trouble again.

Sakes. I’m still waiting here… landlord is away from his phone. I was supposed to be at work an hour ago. Work knows that I’m running late, so all should be ok. People that don’t stick to the schedule that hey themselves set is a pet peeve of mine. Fortunately, all my bases are covered at work right now. Nobody’s out, and my project is ahead of schedule.

That went pretty well, but not what I was looking for. Home, and swapping out to sandals. Ugh. Pod doesn’t like covers on his root-system.

Landlord just took my A/C unit, and will be returning with it, or a replacement shortly. He’d better boogie, I have to get off to work.

supermanatee!

Giant grasshoppers rampage in Florida. Experts advise hitting them with a 2 x 4.

I’ve never encountered them, however I would like to see what a grasshopper sneer looks like.

I’m tired of pushing the man down the stairs, but I’m going to hang onto the program.

Worried about b-boy, and my sweetie… He was to go back to the doctor today… I hope he’s doing ok…my brother’s doing all right, except that his voice sounds a little froggy.

I got my yellow cake with chocolate icing! weirdly, psychically, mom made one, and split it between her young. it was pretty darn good… had a hint of orange zest in it.

Some interesting reading on Hurricane Andrew – 10yrs later I was working at the Boynton Beach Library, and our roof caved in… we had some advance warning, so the stacks were all covered with black plastic, and the pages would get books for people with flashlights in hand. a family of mice were found afterwards, and set free… a scorpion mommy with babies on her back drowned in a slippery plastic pool.

There were whole neighborhoods that were flattened… I am proud to say that many people pulled together to distribute care packages and help those that were left homeless. That’s the closest I’ve ever been to seeing a war zone. Boats, several blocks inland… houses stomped totally flat, the roof thrown into another neighborhood. It seems like a lifetime ago… I was at FAU, playing D&D with Brent and Steve, crushing on Jane, Pam and/or Charlotte at any given time. Those days are so far gone.

There’s a really fascinating, enthralling article in The New York Times Magazine about the science of coincidence and conspiracy theories. Amazing reading, and written in a great page-turner style.

I WAS A STRANGE CHILD
there are no words to describe you.
except maybe: strange. unique. different.
what kind of child were you?

I cannot find the Monastery of Heaped Fragrance,
Miles up now into the clouds of the summit.
There is no footpath through the ancient woods.
Where did the bell sound,
Deep in the forest, deep in the mountain?
The voice of the torrent gulps over jagged stones;
Sunlight hardly warms the bluish pines.
As dusk deepens in these unfathomable mazes,
I practice meditation
To subdue the dragon of desire.

– Wang Wei (701-761)

Bear teeth… Maybe I’ll get a nice fossil, and make it into a necklace. 🙂

Time for beddy-bye. Until tomorrow, dear journal!
