Didn’t do Opa.. maybe next week. The gang didn’t gel.

Rosemary’ll be here about 9am, which means Newt and I go back to the porch for a few. Might be a tad chilly this time…we’ll see.

Written on the bus yesterday morning –

ftlaudbus

Photo is from an earlier ride, when nobody else was aboard.

I dreamt last night that someone grasped my shoulders, pressed their thumbs into my armpits, and then my chest opened up — skin pulled back like contact paper on a drawer, a curved metal pair of bands where my ribs should’ve been opening like french doors. The cavity / cache was warm and dry, no sign of it’s biological location at all. A vaguely egg-shaped mechanical device was removed, and another was put in it’s place. the newer one seemed like something freshly constructed, clean ceramic with rubber rings, smelled a bit like machine oil. I don’t recall the face of the one who did that to me.

Do they make dried olives for cooking or a garnish? Would they be edible?

The bus this morning smells like a combination of car exhaust, cherry jolly ranchers and burger king hash brown rounds. Not entirely bad, and better than it could be, for sure.

More and more folks are using the bike racks on the front of the bus… more often than not, both slots are filled when I get aboard. I may rethink my idea of cycling to the stop, unless I spot a good place to lock it down for the workday.

I think I’m just going to stop posting local news… nah. too much cool freaky stuff.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Airport baggage screeners found a human head with teeth, hair and skin in the luggage of a woman who said she intended to ward off evil spirits with it, authorities said Friday. Continue reading 8176 –

via christinStudy: Most College Students Lack Skills
More than 50percent of students at four-year schools and more than 75 percent at two-year colleges lacked the skills to perform complex literacy tasks.

That means they could not interpret a table about exercise and blood pressure, understand the arguments of newspaper editorials, compare credit card offers with different interest rates and annual fees or summarize results of a survey about parental involvement in school.

8123 – Beware the Ghost who walks

Geotarget

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – An Indian man who was believed dead caused panic when he returned, causing villagers to think he had come back as a ghost, the Times of India reported Monday.

Children screamed “Ghost! Ghost!” and villagers locked their doors when Raju Raghuvanshi returned from jail earlier this month to his village in Mandla district in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

Raghuvanshi’s brothers, who had shaved their heads to mourn his death in line with Hindu tradition, fled when he appeared, the paper reported.

Villagers and family members have ostracized him, forcing Raghuvanshi to file a complaint with local police. The village council has demanded he prove he is not a ghost, but the paper did not say what kind of proof the elders wanted.

Raghuvanshi’s troubles arose after he was jailed last year. In prison, he was admitted to hospital with a stomach ailment from which he recovered but a distant relative told his family he had died.

GeotargetGroggy, foggy head this morning. Can’t seem to shake off the stupids.

Bro’s rolling in big dollars lately. I suspect he’s up to more than pressure cleaning, but don’t know for sure. He did sound clear and solid on the phone last night.

GeotargetIt’s illegal to annoy

A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here’s the relevant language.

“Whoever…utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet… without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person…who receives the communications…shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”

Hmm… I wonder how enforceable this is, and how it’ll change the face of the internet? Telephone use? Talk Radio?

The answer to my ESP poll was Wavy Lines. I suspect there may’ve been some circle after image bleed over due to the moon-talk and icon. Very interesting… most people knew that I’d go with wavy lines. Fully 40% of people answering got it right, as well as 33% getting the circle vibe. Spiffy that folks know me that well, give a one in five chance to get it right.

Let’s try it again – I’m looking at an image, and focusing on it… which one is it?

The problem with LJ:

We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.

Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you.

7994 – Silent Serenade

Geotarget

NewScientist: Mice are rarely the source of romantic inspiration, but it now appears that male mice may serenade potential mates with melodies approaching the complexity of bird song. Mouse songs are sung at ultrasonic frequencies, which is why no one has noticed their complexity before, nor indeed been moved to celebrate the tunes in romantic poetry.

how could she resist?

Tim Holy and Zhongsheng Guo, of Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri, US, recorded the vocalisations made by male mice in the presence of female pheromones. They then digitally modified them to drop the pitch by several octaves into the range of human hearing. You can listen to a male mouse producing a snatch of song, here, and a more determined croon, here.

If I had a decent cellphone, It’d make a sweet ringtone!
