Well second life is fun, but I guess it doesn’t support dial-up users so much. Still free to join, though for any high-speeders out there. Look up Scottobear Bergson if you’re out and about!
Checking out the Deerfield place today after work. I’m pretty enthused… as long as the walls don’t drip blood, I’m probably in.

Pass it on!!! Fake Red Cross Solicitations!
ABC news just ran a story that spoof email solicitations for donations to the Red Cross are being emailed to people all over the world. They look just like the Red Cross, right down the to secure site verify logo. If you fill your personal info into the form, which was ripped from the genuine Red Cross site, and then click on the donate button, you’ve been had; the bad guys have your credit card information. To make it worse, victims are then forwarded to the real Red Cross site, which makes it look even more genuine.
The bottom line? The Red Cross has stated categorically that they NEVER send email solicitations. Never! If you get something like described above, delete it. You may want to forward it first to the FTC’s spoof address [UCE@ftc.gov]. If the crooks are in the U.S. they can be prosecuted, and others turned into the authorities in their respective governments. Thus far spoofs have been traced to third parties in Brazil, Korea, China, and the US. Note: If you forward the emails to the authorities, please copy the addressing information (found in the Message Options in Outlook…click on View, then Message Options, then copy and paste the Internet Headers area).
Please take a moment to pass this on to people in your flist! Thanks!
You may have time to download ’em all before Halloween. I suppose I should switch to the October website colors and background soon.

No time to transcribe, but suffice to say that Jordan’s precocious and swingin’ ode to apple-polishing one ups Van Halen in every way. “Can you take what I can shake”? Indeed!

CNN just sent out the full transcript of the New Orleans Mayor’s emotional and (understandably) expletive-laden interview on local radio yesterday: “excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed.”

In response to the disintegrating scene in New Orleans, Kevin points out that email, faxes, and phone calls are needed — not just money.
All it takes is for you, and others you can reach by email or journal, to contact your two senators and congressperson and demand immediate action as begged for by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. When Mayor Nagin was asked how we can help, he said contact your Senators and Congressperson now. Here is a site you can just click on your state or put in your zip code to reach a link for a form email to go to your Senators and Congressperson. If you do not have time to do an email, feel free to use the one I give you below.
Please take 5 minutes:
The U.S. Humane Society is making a plea for donations for Katrina animal victims, too. Banner above takes you to donation page. If you do not have extra money, passing this on through your journal or website is helping, too.

Fellow Americans, if you haven’t yet registered to vote, or need to re-register due to a change of address or legal name, please go here:
Online form. Takes all of two minutes, if that. Seriously.
Print it, sign it, slap a stamp on it (and maybe a piece of tape) and you’re good to go. You don’t even need an envelope.
Do it right now, if you can. Many states have early October deadlines to register. That’s just two weeks away.
If you’re not sure whether or not you’re registered, you’re probably not. Register again.
I don’t care whether we’re voting for the same guy or not.
Just register and vote, k?
It ain’t a right, it’s a responsibility.
Thanks.
Also, For people without printers: 7-11 stores are carrying piles of voter registration forms.
American citizens overseas who need to request absentee ballots can get information on how to do that (including the standard federal form to request them) at http://www.fvap.gov/ – that site will point you to state election sites for voters in the US.
Shaft in Africa soundtrack. THE Brother Man in the Motherland! I only hope the Luke Cage Soundtrack will have as much funk.

Ok, Office is disassembled, network secure, and everything is safe there.
Now to research what to do for myself.

Broward County Mayor Ilene Lieberman announced at a media conference today at 8:00 a.m. the following action Broward County residents and visitors should take in preparation for Hurricane Frances.

I just heard the following quote:
“If we had paid no more attention to our plants than we have to our children, we would now be living in a jungle of weed.”

I’m curious about charities, and how people help one another lately.
My thing is giving blood, and doing the job I do… that’s where I get the majority of my fulfillment from doing good works.
I’m curious… what do people who read my journal do to make the world a better place?
I know I have a few really nice folks that stop by. Its fun to interact with everyone, and I’ve learned quite a lot from people that are (amongst other things) parents, naturalists, social workers and teachers.
If you see this, and you’re of a mind, let me know about what you might’ve done to help make the world a better place. Do you volunteer your time? Give money to an organization? If you’re shy about that sort of stuff, feel free to post anonymously (I’ll unscreen anony entries, once I’m sure they’re not spam). I’m looking to see what manner of bases are typically covered.
Some of the big ones in my immediate vicinity seem to be:
Hurricane Relief
The Homeless
AIDS
Cancer
Missing Kids
Battered / Abused Women & Children
The Environment
Animal Welfare
The Hungry people overseas
Planned Parenthood
Something I rarely hear about anymore is Zero Population growth… is that viewed as selfish, these days?
I don’t know why I drew this guy… it just sort of doodled itself.
Did Laundry, and gave the cab driver some much needed schooling on how to do his job, including the art of pulling into the driveway, and giving him the tip of “next time, offer to help with my double armload of things, or at least offer to help with the door. I’m usually a good tipper, but now you get nothing.” And paid his exact fare in laundry quarters. He cussed me out as he drove off, so I called the cab company, and reported him for his poor behavior.
Up late, slept late… there wasn’t even any rain for me last night, unlike so much of the regions North –
