Prompt – “R.I.P.” And so ends another season with Mab! I preloaded quite a bit this year, starting in September, but it was the only way I could get drawings out on a daily basis. I went with this as a companion piece to yesterday’s ghost, given that it was the haunted tank, and I want to make it perfectly clear that I in no way support the Confederacy. There are far too many memorials to traitors in this neck of the woods, both in Maryland and Virginia. Confederate memorials began to appear in public places in the United States in the early 20th century, and the number of memorials increased during the Jim Crow era. The timing and location of these monuments suggest that they were a response to Black Americans gaining political power and freedom. The United Daughters of the Confederacy sponsored many of these monuments, which were often built on courthouse grounds and other government office grounds.
Prompt – “Ghost” I first read about the haunted tank back in the day, but there is no way I’m adding a Confederate flag to a picture these days. The Haunted Tank was originally a Stuart and was haunted by its namesake. During its tour of duty, it became a strange “jigsaw tank,” sort of A-Team-ed together at a junkyard into a souped-up hot rod of a war machine. Later, when the crew switched to a Sherman tank, the ghost had a little changing of the guard to the new vehicle to stay with his living human descendant, Jeb, despite the ghost of General Sherman wanting the right to possess the tank named for him. I had a lot of luck picking up old copies of G.I. Combat back in the day from the 10-for-a-dollar bins at the comic book store when I was a kid. Those long boxes were full of very worn, often coverless remnants of collections that had been brought in, and whatever was left over after the owner had bagged and boarded the stuff that wasn’t completely ruined. The dime bins eventually turned into quarter bins, then 3-for-a-buck or more. I don’t even know if they exist at comic stores anymore because space is at a premium. All I know is that that is where I got my first taste of books like “Weird War Tales”, “Plop!” and black-and-white Warren magazines, and I’m thankful for it. When you are a little kid with maybe three bucks on you, that would get you a serious pile of loot to read, with enough money left on you to pick up a coke at the gas station on the way home. #doodle #ghost #hauntedtank #dccomics #bronzeagemonsters #warcomics #gicombat #mdwc24d30ghost #mdwc24d30 #mdwc24 #jebstuart #shermantank https://www.instagram.com/p/DBwlc_9Ryo4/?igsh=MWUzNXRheHZlcjBzdQ==
Prompt – “Pumpkin” I didn’t think to do a Little Shop homage when the Botanical Beasts prompt popped up, so I figured this was as good a time as any. The Great Pumpkin has had enough of our less-than-humble pumpkin patches! In the spirit of the subject, I found a planty grail today at my favorite friendly local resource, The Basement. A used McFarlane Swamp Thing (not the glow one with both heads, but the original) at an amazing price, with everything but the box. Now, Ted and Alec can frolic in the bogs together. Even though my most recent Man-Thing is a bit shorter than Swampy, they will make a darling leafy Mutt and Jeff on my office shelf when the Halloween décor is cycled out. If you look carefully, you will see my also recently obtained buttons from @bronzeagemonsters and a little gray kitty to represent @pearlsquirrel in the foreground and background, respectively.
Prompt – “dragon” I, too, would prefer multiple candy buckets when trick or treating. Trogdor was a man I mean, he was a dragon man Or, maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still Trogdor! Trogdor!
Prompt- “mushroom” Don’t consume mushrooms that you aren’t very familiar with, or you could drop dead, and the mushrooms will consume you instead.
The mushroom people hypothesis suggests that we owe the emergence of language, self-reflection, and other unique functions of the human brain to ancient ancestors who ate psilocybin mushrooms.

Prompt – “mask” Brings to mind these lyrics by The Mountain Goats from Beautiful Gas Mask: I can’t hear you in the dark Wish I knew where you’d gone Know you’re there off in the shadow somewhere Try to soldier on Never sleep, remember to breathe deep Never sleep, remember to breathe Breathe deep And breathe humbly Secure your mouthpiece when you can Toxic shapes adorn the walls As we rise from our knees Someone’s coming to reward us, you wait and see Or crush us both like fleas #doodle #mask #mdwc24d26mask #mdwc24d26 #mdwc24 #themountaingoatslyrics #lifeingorillacity https://www.instagram.com/p/DBmHlQ7RM5L/?igsh=Z2Vmd3cwbmJ5ejdw
Day 20,354 b We found a garden gnome colony while I was taking pictures of autumn colors on the way home from Floyd. Gnome cave approximate location: 9036 US-221, Roanoke, VA 24018, USA I will return to get better photos in the future.
Prompt – “hell hound” Today is my 18th wedding anniversary! I’m so fortunate to have her in my life, and she is quite the opposite of today’s subject matter. Don’t get me wrong; she has a strong streak of mischief in her, but she is easily the kindest and most thoughtful person I’ve ever met. It’s no wonder I fell head over heels in love with her, and I am very fortunate to be loved by her as well.
Prompt – “Goth Moth” “Excuse me, have you seen my partner, Lamp? No, mothman was my dad.” #doodle #mothman #gothmoth #mdwc24d24gothmoth #mdwc24 #mdwc24d24 https://www.instagram.com/p/DBg1etNxkK_/?igsh=ZTc4YmZrZ3FjcGE5
Prompt – “the green lady” Jenny Greenteeth a.k.a. Wicked Jenny, Ginny Greenteeth and Grinteeth is a figure in English folklore. A river-hag, similar to Peg Powler and derived from the grindylow, she would pull children or the elderly into the water and drown them. The name is also used to describe pondweed or duckweed, which can form a continuous mat over the surface of a small body of water, making it misleading and potentially treacherous, especially to the unwary.
Prompt – “botanical beasts” That’ll teach me not to look ahead on the list… given that I did an evil plant just yesterday. I’ll just roll with a little variant, not so cosmic this time, just a free-walking tree stump looking for stuff! (and junk!) across the land of negative space. I’m playing with blur in Procreate again. I’m not sure if I like it better with or without. We went to the second meeting of the book club tonight and had a pretty good time. Nice folks and good recommendations. #doodle #botanicalbeasts #mdwc24 #mdwc24d22 #mdwc24d22botanicalbeasts #treant #stumpy https://www.instagram.com/p/DBcuE6cxKm-/?igsh=NDFpbnN6aDNmMm54
Prompt – “zodiac” My first thought was the Zodiac killer (a.k.a. Ted Cruz), but I thought a little cosmic horror was more in tune with what I like to get my scaredy-spooky vibes from. I think the stars are right for an alien plant to grow by the light of both our moons, clawing its way with hand-like tendrils back to the stars that spawned it so many ages ago. #doodle #zodiac #mdwc24d21 #mdwc24 #mdwc24d21zodiac
