Still working on a background for Mr. Slimy here. Doing a little art tonight in a medium new to me, metal clay. I’ll share the results later, but I think it will be a good time! I printed out some pattern tools to try, and I may see if I can find any resin molds that I might want to try.

Metal clay is a crafting medium consisting of very small particles of metal, such as silver, gold, bronze, or copper, mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewelry, beads, and small sculptures. Originating in Japan in 1990, metal clay can be shaped just like any soft clay, by hand, or using molds. After drying, the clay can be fired in various ways, such as in a kiln, with a handheld gas torch, or on a gas stove, depending on the type of clay and the metal in it. The binder burns away, leaving the pure sintered metal. Shrinkage of between 8% and 30% occurs (depending on the product used). Alloys such as bronze, sterling silver, and steel are also available.

On Saturday, the in-laws are hopeful for today’s Virginia Tech game against Marshall. The Hokies are favored by 20.5 points, so hopefully they will do better than last week when they were favored to win by 12 points and lost anyway

The in-laws are here, which means we are watching the Virginia Tech game. (It’s the first game of the season, versus Vanderbilt, the first time playing them in 30+ years.) It should be a good day. Tech is favored to win, and that, in turn, should put them in a good mood. 🙂 I see the Miami Hurricanes are playing the Gators later, but I am not as tied to them as the folks are to their teams.

The in-laws have accomplished something I have been hoping to do: have a bear sighting! They said that it was about 200 lbs, give or take. FIL thinks it was a young one, in good health with a shiny coat, and able to move at a good clip up the hill. Watching the start of season four of only murders in the building and not grilling as planned due to rain. Looks like soup and sammiches for supper instead!

MIL (and FIL) came into town on Sunday for @maximillian_deersteak ‘s birthday! I have often imagined her as the jackelope of our cryptid family, as she is always going at 100 mph, more a blue streak than anything else. I just do my best not to accidentally step on her or get between where she is or where she is going. We all love her dearly, and I certainly wouldn’t want to squish her underfoot accidentally.
