Back pain is continuing, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Left leg, left foot all have twinges lately. I can safely say that the left transforaminal epidural steroid injection under fluouroscopy (l5-s1) – didn’t take. The upside is that I am also not paralysed as a result.

Some pictures taken over the last week or so, with Bugah and BHK – Cypress swamp provided skinks, frogs, squirrels, bees, hummingbirds, inchworms and plant life. (Pawpaws, ferns and cypress, mostly.) Bugah and BHK as John Smith, eating a stingray as revenge for posioning his arm with a tail barb.

Slugs out on our porch are beautiful, but hard to do justice with the camera. I love the slimy leopard pattern on them.

Also shown is Pyewacket lazing on the chair, much as he is beside me now.

Got BHK her Birthday present a month early – a green DS lite, with a copy of treasure world. Bugah got a copy too – it’s a pretty addictive game, and it’s fun to drive around listening for found "treasure" while sightseeing areas you might otherwise not go.

Bugah got me back into playing with the PSP, too. MediaGo is a great improvement over the old media player/data transfer. Put a few episodes of the wire on the PSP for the Sleep Study coming up.

Scheduled my sleep study in about a week – new CPAP will be soon to follow. It’ll be the first night since we got married that BHK and I won’t be in the same bed. I doubt I’ll sleep very easily without her nearby.

Well, Back to life as a couple, rather than a trio- Bugah made it home safe and sound yesterday morning, We had the Nailles over last night for a little game night – mario party 8 and pizza. We went to their place today – played some Can’t Stop (you can get the computer version here) Had some tasty grilled food with them tonight – dogs and burgers with corn on the cob a la BHK, and some awesome potatoes. We’re going to have to recreate those once our garden gives us a few spuds.

Twisted my back a bit more yesterday, just carrying the pizza to the table… hopefully some stretching today will iron it out.

Good morning, dear journal – I will be updating you little by little over the course of today.

Using my starry-eyed icon to represent my brain on oxy-c for my back today. Very painful, but I’m taking the stupification way out today, along with my heating pad.

Later – Bhk home from her schoolwork – Back is still fairly out. Heating pad is helping, and I’m having chinese food with the in-laws while watching NCIS.

Bugah comes over tomorrow. I can hardly wait! We’ll put in some quality buddy time this week – I have to remember to ask if Harry Potter is acceptable for him to see. Certainly Wii games and some outside time by the bay will happen.

Bugah’s baseball game is today – didn’t drive out to VA to see him – both BHK and I love that kid to death, but we’re both too sick to go up there and spread our germs to the little ones – that said, we did go to the doc for a shot.

Got shots, we played Yahtzee on the pda three times while I waited for clearance to leave, bhk does better than me in general, but I got her 2/3 games this time.

Hit the yard sale in front of the firehouse on the way home – BHK got a pair of books, something by Moning [edit – it was Darkfever ] (Highlander something) and The 13th Tale.

After a bit of rest, we decided to head to Aardvark, and picked up Arkham Horror, Grave Robbers From Outer Space and Marriage Material (as well as vol 2 of Irredeemable Ant-man, and Vol 2 of New Frontier.)

I started feeling much more poorly Saturday night – BHK is sick, and I have a severe cough, a fluid-filled chest, muscle aches, and back pain.

We started to do a puzzle, but I couldn’t even stay seated at the table…. so I flopped in front fo the TV and half-watched until we tucked in, at about 9 pm.

On a lighter note – we got our first nibs and nabs from the garden!

em’s dance recital: low skill, high cute factor. lots of adorable, ungainly little kids doing the ballet and tap thing.

Pancake and scrambled eggs brunch at Larry & Chris’s, checked out L’s trains upstairs, and rooted around BHK’s old bedroom and returned with salvage of wacky packages, headphones and a weight ball. Not to mention BHK’s 14-wheeled skateboard. I would love to try it if I didn’t fear breaking the rest of my spine.

Retired downstairs to view the last 85% of George of the Jungle.

Too dang cold outside for playing, so back to our place – fooled around with pirates, star-wars hero-type clix, and yet more wii.

Ultimate Alliance and Lego Star Wars ruled the evening.

BHK ordered us all some pizza, and then baked cookies…. nom nom nom. Did we give Bugah any veggies this weekend, aside from products containing wheat?

Watched Funny Farm & Trial of the Incredible Hulk – Bugah may’ve been a little frightened by the needle scene. I was pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t bored by the 80’s sensibilities and lack of special effects.

Hit the sack at 10:30… it’s a school night for me!

Picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance for m’self – $18 used!

Went to see National Treasure 2 again… bugah and bhk dug it, I thought it was ok, but not fantastic. I thought it was ok, but it really didn’t hold together very well… the end was loose and free to say the least. It was a fun ride, and I didn’t fall asleep like I dad last time.

Dinner at Cheeburger Cheeburger – Bug ate the 1/2 lb’r and is on the wall now.

Came home and played some family fluxx and then surprise hit polarity. (We may have to get it for him next present-time – we got him family fluxx as part of his stocking this year) Reminds me that I’m woefully behind on sending Eryx his goodies.

Swift cleanup – mostly BHK’s doing. She’s a member of the reverse-hurricane school of speed-tidiness.

Watched psych and held my poor, sore jaw.

Straightened the office a bit, mostly clearing my desk, dealing with paperwork and holding my jaw.

Picked up Bugah in the early evening (~7:30ish)

Went to Bert’s diner w/in-laws – Milkshake was soothing and delicious.

Got Bugah back to our place, and played video games until the wee hours. Preferred titles were Guitar Hero 3 and Transformers (brought with him), but we also got some other bits in here and there.

We took it easy today, as per our usual Sunday… BHK and I woke and puttered a bit, at at The Frying Pan before heading to Aardvark’s to use the gift certificate we got from the Newsies. We picked up family fluxx, my comics and a few deck boxes for our card games – with the bonus stuff for Zombie and regular fluxx, they’ve rather outgrown the cardboard boxes they came in. I was pleasantly surprised to see a nice display of looney labs stuff there – werewolf and and assortment of Fluxx decks is a sign of good fun.

If all goes according to plan, Bugah will be staying with us next weekend – I’ll be recovering from the dentist, but playing wii and just generally goofing around should be a great time for us all. Maybe we can convert him to playing fluxx, too.

In other gaming news – Half-life 2 progressing in a fun way, slowly – about 10 min of game play each time… playing on the airboat right now. Just made it to the red barn. Total Playing time: 4 hrs past 2 weeks (all pc games, including peggle, portal, team fortress 2, counterstrike, hl2, and so on) I’m just not hardcore anymore… if I ever was. Too much fun stuff to do in meat-space – video gaming is usually what I do while I wait for BHK to get ready to go out.

We were planning on heading over get groceries and then to the in-laws to set up some trains, but we grew too fatigued, and just headed home to watch our backlog of psych episodes and began the business of packing up Christmas decor for another 11 months.

I don’t even remember what I had for supper… Oh, wait, got it. Cheese crackers. I skipped the leftover spaghetti – will lunch that tomorrow.

Hump-day. Somehow, I can’t get the mental picture of dozens of Käpylehmät out of my head. Cone-cows for everyone! Color me spoiled, but I’m glad I’ve got a Wii, a boatload of boardgames, and BHK to play them all with! Come to think of it, maybe she’d like a pine cone duck / llama / puggle for the holidays. This doesn’t look like any puggle I’ve seen.

That said, maybe Pye and Newt would like to play with a few pine cones…. I’ll see what I can round up.

Secret Santa Day at work! I got a $20 gamestop card, a gumdrop penguin, and a candy cane! Thanks, Mystery Kringle! I suspect that’ll be a hefty piece of Mario Galaxy or some other swell game.

BHK and I are just taking it easy tonight… hitting the sack early, too – just as soon as she’s done on the phone with Misti. Apparently Bugah has poor faith about Santa, but they don’t really talk about it. That’s a bummer… hopefully the holiday spirit will still prevail.

We never did make it to Aardvark to pick up our Zombie Fluxx! We’ll have to do that sometime this week – must get it before Halloween! (only 10 more days!)

We have started eating the treats from our Halloween “Advent Calender” – counts down from 13 days. so far we’ve had two gummi eyeballs and a gummi skull.

Rather than journey south to Solomon’s, BHK and I headed out to another corn maze at greenstreet gardens. Had a haunted hayride through the back 40 to the cornfield – I think the hayride was scarier than the corn…. mostly due to the bone-jarring bumps and slides around the road in an unsecured wagon!

Bugah got Mario Strikers… we may have to get a copy, to play with him online. Probably rent it first, to make sure it isn’t a bum title, but the reviews are generally good.

Speaking of Mario, BHK and I thought it’d be fun to have Super Mario Brothers on the wii… 500 points later, there we go. She’s more skilled than I am – but I’m catching up. I hadn’t played it for about 15-18 years, while she has fairly recently.
