As always, Happy Birthday, Oneeyedcat! We Love you and yours!
We slept in this morning, after the late night out… Chris and Larry stopped by to check out the garden, and bring us some biscuits and bacon… (I focused on the former, BHK, the latter, of course.)
While folding laundry, We watched the first episode of Primeval: Season 3 . Looks like it’s off to a good start.
Later, Chris and Larry came back over, and we grilled, as is our thing lately… meat burgers for the in-laws, veggie-burgs for BHK and me. Baked beans, cole slaw, some of the most awesome corn on the cob of the season, and tasty mac & cheese. It’s hard to diet with this much good food nearby.
BHK made key lime pie for dessert, and we watched the end of The Last Templar – it started strong, but petered out – I can’t recommend it. I do recommend BHK’s key lime pie, though.
I spent a little time working on the computer – we’re having connectivity issues- it seems like comcast has trouble after rainstorms, especially.

BHK gave me a lift in to work this morning – let me sleep in an extra hour or so. I repay her by going over her accent on the way in – we were talking about someone’s "pen collection", and With BHK, Pin & Pen sound alike – and I had no context cues to work with. so I innocently asked if it was the writing implement or the sharp thing that pierces fabric.
That devolved into a Rosetta-stone style communication back and forth – She doesn’t pronounce the difference between pin or pen. Long story short, we just were silly and giggly on the ride in – perhaps you had to be there, dear journal.

Found out this afternoon that my brother’s girlfriend Shannon has had a relapse and has vanished with her baby (Bro’s daughter). Bro is still in prison for the next few months (out in May) – My Mom is understandably upset – had bonded some with the child and is looking into legal recourse. I really don’t think that they’ve even established paternity yet, so I doubt she has much to work with.
I am a bit cold about the whole thing – saw this coming (heck, I dealt with Derek’s bouts back and forth with rehab, and know how that whole deal works), but there is not a lot I can do for any of them.
She’s made a good decision not to pursue custody or guardianship or anything like that and I feel she made a good, if very difficult choice.

Tomorrow, BHK and I are attending the United Way Mardi Gras – we got comp tickets from the Maerten’s Gang!
We’re taking a limo, with the whole crew, and it’ll be like BHK and I are going to prom. I’m looking forward to it all!

Oh, at last. Updated the EEE with a book reader, an art program and new drivers, not to mention useful utilities for work, like openoffice and adobe. – should be a really solid palmtop replacement, and then some. Big thing will be doodling – we’ll see how that works with the trackpad, or a little external mouse.
There was a fire 2 doors down tonight – It seems that someone didn’t clean thier chimney, and it caught fire. (If feel guilty a bit for thinking DRYER FIRE at first.) Nobody was hurt, but there was a lot of smoke.

I left work a bit late due to meeting, but from there BHK and I went to University of Maryland to hang out a bit before heading home.
Chili with Matt, Adam and BHK at Hard Times – drove around college park, visited his dorm, and BHK put a C**k-block on Adam vs Sarah our server by telling her he had a facebook and liked her, Saw the Kermit / Jim Henson statue, lots of squirrels, and tons of college kids going from place to place.
Interesting to revisit that sort of hive after being out of it for so long.
The Chili mac superior to Frito pie.. but I suspect they didn’t put the Frito pie in the properly sized bowl. If it had been in my mac bowl, it’d have been more than sufficient.
Chris passed the PMP exam – we’ll have to take her out to supper for that! (studied for it all week.)
Roller Derby episode of Psych and BHK fell asleep mid-view – good day overall. Tomorrow is a busy day – g’nite for now, dear journal!

Solid end to the work week – I was fortunate enough to have Chris pick me up at the office door, and take me straight on home.
BHK was there and we had red lentil soup and stuffed eggplant – it was really good, but I was feeling so well… needed a good lie down tonight. The in-laws could tell I wasn’t up to snuff, so they called it a night early.
Dinosaurs I particularly like, but in no particular order – stegosaurus, triceratops, plesiosaur (maybe Chessie ? (and mosasuar ), apatosaurus(or brontosaurus, as I first learned it), ankylosaurus,and utahraptor. If I had a paradox-free time machine, I’d love to visit, or at least view the Late Cretaceous.
I never think about how frickin’ huge the utahraptor was, compared to a human… I always figure it to be one of the tiny dinos… and it is tiny, compared to my other interests.
Well, my thoughts on a woman able to make it to the white house by having to be Republican may be gelling.
I search for a quick look at Ms. Palin’s stances, as I really didn’t know much about her before today. Aside from having some abuse of power issues. It seems that she’s very strongly anti-choice, pro big oil and big mining, supports the aerial hunting of wolves and bears, anti-environment, NRA positive, gay marriage unfriendly, favors teaching creationism in schools. Guess which stance I’m in agreement with, dear journal? (Hint: it’s the above the dividing line, and talks about dinosaurs being gigantic. I don’t agree with any of those policies she happens to have. )
I’m not really all that worried about it hitting the election’s results by much one way or the other – I suspect this will help perhaps a little bit for the dems, save for a fringe group of people that absolutely, positively have to see someone in office because her genitals are different than any other veep in history. (that we know of…. I’m talking to you, Elbridge Gerry and John C. Calhoun… I’ve had my suspicions.)
She just asked "What exactly does a vice president do?", on CNBC. A fair enough question I guess… but…

Neither VP lights my candle. Palin (a self-admitted creationist) nor Biden (a proponent of stronger police powers)
Well, no matter what happens this election, *something* new and unusual is going to happen. However, despite my issues with Obama – he is still the one I’ll vote for, given the available candidates. If it were John McCain of the 2000 election, I’d be more shaky, but given McCain’s recent right-wing pandering actions… AW *hail* NO. Defective Yeti agrees with my feeling there.

Happy Valentines Day!
Got a lovely Kermit the frog card from BHK. Words can’t even begin to describe how much love I have for her. I hold her dearly in my heart. She makes every day a valentiney sort of day. Hard to get too worked up about a day that’s all about love and affection when I’m immersed in it all the time.
That’s a good thing!

Tonight, we exchanged chocolates, and BHK made tasty mexican bake for me and the in-laws. (well, Chris… Larry had Hot dogs.) Dessert was 3-chocolate ice cream and orange cake with milk chocolate icing. nom nom nom. More fun din din news to follow, I’m sure.

Dinosaurs are a specific subgroup of the archosaurs, a group that also includes crocodiles, pterosaurs, and birds. although pterosaurs are close relations, they are not true dinosaurs. Even more distantly related to dinosaurs are the marine reptiles, which include the plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs. Mammoths and mastodons are mammals and did not appear until many millions of years after the close of the Cretaceous period. Dimetrodon is neither a reptile nor a mammal, but a basal synapsid, i.e., an early relative of the ancestors of mammals.
I honestly didn’t know that pterosaurs and marine reptiles didn’t count as dinos, or that dinosaur wasn’t a catch-all term before today, and I’ve loved early critters for well over three decades. Talk about a hole in my education!

The Dan-man and I went out to an all-you-dare-eat buffet for Sushi/Thai/Chinese, and it was actually quite good. Afterward, we swung by Crabby Jacks to solve his caffeine needs and Miranda got a pretty awesome tip ($5 after a bill for $0.69 – the coffee was free and I had a draft) – after we hung out a bit and chitty-chatted. I told him a bit about my beliefs regarding meeting someone for a lifelong commitment at this point (I suspect odds of meeting someone that I have chemistry with, a minimum of emotional baggage, and a mutual appreciation of one another to be very, very, very slim.) Explained to him why Magda wasn’t a viable option, though she and I did have a nice time together. I honestly don’t know if there are any wedding bells in my future, but If I were a betting man, I know that I’d opt for “not likely.” I know good couples are out there… Dave & Cathi / GrayPumpkin & Katt are two of the best examples of two pairings as well-suited for one another for life that I can think of.

I’ve been proposed to on two different occasions, and I honestly thought I’d end up with CEJ for life… she was the last one that gave me those sorts of feelings.
Looking back, I do pretty well, for a serial monogamist with no vehicle of his own.
Dan got me a few very nice gifts for Christmas…. No Software this year. A used book on dinosaurs, a new copy of Pratchett’s Last Hero, a t-shirt and a zip-up shirt (both too small, unfortunately), a carrying case for a digital camera/palmtop, and some jalepeno peanuts. We tried out the Peking House restauant, but it had a bad vibe, so we went to the one we’re more fond of dining at.
