9556 – Sunday

Newt and Pye have been together for 2 years now. They’ve blended well. They aren’t too aggressive with one another, though they do play rough.

Got an earache last night, I think it’s an infection via the crown. Contacted Dr. Wolf, we’ll see what he advises.

Went to the in-laws this morning (well, about noontime) for some Breakfast – Larry Poached some eggs, and grilled up some bacon, Chris made crab salad. All served on Xmas English muffins. (Do they call muffins something else in England, and "English muffins" just muffins?)

After eating, we watched Superhero move and I got a call from the Momster – our holiday goodies arrived in her mailbox yesterday. Superhero Movie was Basically a parody of Spider-man, plus a few cameos and Leslie Neilson nonsense.

Larry showed me how to make Preacher cookies – chocolate/oatmeal goodies, with no flour in ’em. Closer to Fudge than a cookie, really.

Good stuff – I’ve got to practice making these, I think… they’re easy, but are good eats.

BHK and I headed home early for some rest – watch some old Christmas episodes of night Court and Wings – I pretty much just Vegged out all weekend.

I’m looking forward to a nice long winter’s nap after Tuesday – Vacation (but on-call) from 12/24-01/04!

A few items need to be worked on – biggest ones are file comparing encryption, getting a slacker customer to get on the new system from the old (before the old shuts down totally)  and a system map of our network that is up to date.

Maybe a little vitamin B-12 will pick me up. Until later, dear journal!

Got my allergy shots – down to only needing them every other week, now!

Still feeling yucky – took a nap today from 3-6 pm, and my crown feels a little loose. Maybe an infection under there is messing with me? Or maybe it’s the big dose of meds today.

In-laws came over, and we had tasty soup and sammiches. I’m still not eating much, but can certainly enjoy what I am eating.

After eats, we finally finished hanging the ornaments on the tree. All that is left now is to set up the train… and maybe a few fun bits of landscape. The green beaded string didn’t show up too well on the tree this year, so we strung our holiday cards over the living room window, and it looks sharp. I think we may do this in years to come.

The in-laws headed home a little while ago – they stopped out front of our house with the engine running, and called inside to let us know that Chris lost an earring – while we were looking for it, BHK heard yelling on the phone – it turns out a pedestrian walked up to the truck, opened the door, and then took off when Larry yelled at him.

Chris and Larry went home, but BHK got the guys description and called the police. I suspect it was a drunk looking for a ride – that’s still not the sort of thing you want to take place in your front yard. We talked to the sheriff, and they sent prowl cars around, but he didn’t turn up.

[EDIT – Later that evening, just up the street (about 5 blocks closer to the bay) –

Still fatigued. If this doesn’t let up soon, I’m calling the doc to see what can be done.

We went over to the in-laws for pancake breakfast after sleeping in nicely this morning. I had a bit of an allergy attack, had to head home – did some work-work stuff, folded some laundry and put lights on the tree while BHK did household work and made use quiche with cheese, veggie sausage and green peas… and some veggie sausage-biscuit balls, too. *VERY* tasty and hearty fare. The in-laws came over too, and we just hung out and chitty-chatted – watched some old episodes of Newheart and the Honeymooners on WGN –  The in-laws are out the door now, and BHK is sleeping on my lap… but now it’s time for bed.

It’s here! Minimum of muss and fuss. Shaun had his tree picked out and cut down before I even got there.

We introduced Shaun to "Crabs for Christmas", and a good time was had by all. After getting the tree up, we paused for some Chinese food – some of the best I’ve had. I think the secret to little panda is to not go on Sunday – I suspect that the regular cook takes that day off.

I was very fortunate that Larry brought his own saw – the one provided wasn’t up to snuff.

BHK figured out a good place for the tree, the far side of the living room. Traffic shouldn’t be too much of a problem there, and it smells so good!

Easy getting this year – measured twice, cut once – and then cut again when we got home, to fit and make fresh for water.

We got our tree. Not decorated yet, but I rather like it unadorned at the moment.

BHK, the in-laws and I watched "Love, Actually" and by that time, it was too late to hang lights or ornaments, which is fine by me!

Long ol’ Day at work, and a *seemingly* longer commute home.

Cousin David met BHK and I at the Suitland Station and we whisked off to the in-laws for Chinese food and an animated discussion on what David is up yo lately (his Hungarian girlfriend, school, etc etc)

BHK and I had to duck out early – "school night" for me – but we got some fun convo in, Larry and I discussed the banjo, and had a nice visit.

Just because I was bored for about a half-moment, here’s me being mind controlled by Starro, the conqueror.

Friday- nice to see it back again. It was foggy beyond belief yesterday, and continues today.

Last night’s supper of Chinese food from the Octagon was pretty good – I only wish they hadn’t packaged the general tso’s tofu in such a way that I got it all over my work pants and jacket while driving home.

Back was tweaking up something fierce – I wonder if the barometric pressure was a factor, or all that fog?

BHK is using her super legal-powers to help with the condo issues – looks like we might get this thing ironed out after all!

While she looked up condo legal-ese, I did some back stretches,  overdue computer stuff, and checked out the demo of Left4Dead… that’s a beautiful game right there. The artwork is pretty top notch, and I really like the team play aspect. That’ll probably be my next purchase afte rI swim through Fallout 3 some more. Maybe someday I’ll get around to finishing the later episodes of HL2.

In other gaming news, BHK picked me up a new gaming joystick via freecycle. Can’t beat free hardware!

This weekend, we are likely to skip JohnCon, and instead go to Geppi’s Entertainment Museum. (I wonder if my metropass will count for $2 OFF GO GREEN! Show your ticket stub for public transportation for that day and receive $2 off admission to Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.)

Lunch today of "chicken" nuggets and mac&cheese was dang tasty. perfect for a cool, misty day

Got off work, and the Element has recovered from the hit we took from the deer. It still smells a bit of paint, but looks good as new.

Traffic was HORRID today. It took us forever to get anywhere!

BHK, Larry, Chris and I went to Selby – I guess the owners are looking to retire, sadly. I guess we had better get the pizza while we can!

The Washington Post is reporting that the shutdown of one hosting company has caused the total volume of spam to drop by 2/3rds. The company in question is McColo Corp. Both Hurricane Electric and Global Crossing pulled the plug today after a damning report revealed a number of illegal activities happening on McColo’s servers.

Beard all the way off today! Zip-zip! Not sure when it’ll be back, but I wager it’ll return eventually.

Shots were a little rough – I think Danielle was preoccupied.

A couple of nifty things today –

installed the new power supply and fan for the PC today – seems to be going well – the video chip varies between 133F and 171F, depending on if I’m surfing the web or playing fallout 3 for an extended period. seems a little hot, but the blower cools the guts of the system pretty quickly.

Had a little late lunch, BHK made a wonderful early supper at 4ish with Jay, Shaun, Baby Duncan and the in-laws. – veggie "turkey" roast, stuffed peppers for the carnivores (with ground real turkey) roasted root veggies, pumpkin bread, and mac and cheese – really good stuff!

Chris and Larry brought chick-fil-a nuggets, and homemade baked apples – which were a hit with 1 year old Duncan.

Shaun and Jay brought some spicy deviled eggs – good stuff… I was the slacker, and just arranged crackers, olives, cheese, dip and veggies.

Autumn is hitting us like gangbusters… sweep the back porch off, wait 20 minutes and repeat. I’m not talking about just a few leaves, either – layers inches deep, in some places. The trees won’t have much more to drop next week, if this keeps up.

The colors outside right now are beautiful. lots of oranges, bright reds and yellows. BHK and I are in agreement – we both like the trees that go through a progressive change, all on the same plant. green leave son the bottom, bright yellow in the middle, and darker orange-brown on top.

Went back to gina’s cantina, this time with the in-laws in tow.

my “hair of the dog” brunch was pretty close to the 8 layer “slop bucket” I noshed on the day prior, but it had scrambled eggs and a tostada shell rather than a mound of guac. (aok by me.)

had the same table and the same waiter as yesterday. nice guy, chris thinks he looks like alan.

my layers today were… hummus, jalepenos, refried veggie beans (a lovely purple), cheese, scrambled egg, sour cream sauce of a sort, black olives.

bhk made up for my lack of guac by getting an avacado boat, filled with hummus, too. additionally, a couple of soft tacos – beef.

larry got a really good looking burger, and chris got a drunken taco salad, which had similar sauce to my drunken tacos yesterday.

finished off with sopapillas – yum.

we went to the antique store, and bhk found mr peanut salt an pepper shakers for $2, which have sold recently on ebay for $25. (however, it’s likely we won’t sell ’em. Mr. peanut is a cool cat.)

got some other toys – wimpy and bluto, mac tonight, papa smurf and something else. I forget who. [edit: Foghorn Leghorn, and Henery! – why do I have such a mental block?]

Picked up a book of hard-boiled detective stories, and BHK got a few cookbooks.

then went to the purple poppy, and what used to be sputnik (now lures.)

after – we wet to sam’s and picked up some essentials (cheesy poofs and garden burger) – but they didn’t have a wireless cable router… or decent clothes bleach!

Sams… you let us down. fortunately, your muffins make up for it.

we went home, watched a little tv – primeval and iron chef cooking “offal”.

Went to homestead gardens for the fall festival – My Mother and Witon came up for a quickie visit on the weekend. My back wasn’t up to doing the corn maze, but BHK and Wilton had fun running around in there!

After some autumnal shenanigans, we headed to Jasper’s for dinner. a yelp review is sure to follow, but for now, let’s just say that the family time was good, the food was meh.

Starting to feel a bit like October!

Going to a birthday party this weekend – Our neighbors Jay & Sean are celebrating 1 year of Duncan being out in the world with them! BHK is making a cake, and got a cute outfit… pictures may follow later, if they’re taken, and permitted. (Folks can be worrisome about kid pics on the net.)

Watched SNL with in-laws – mostly silly political stuff about the debate, which was cute.

BHK made shepherds pie and baked zucchini for dinner tonight – the pie was a smidgen different with the inclusion of eggplant. It made for a sweeter flavor, and better texture. I’m not sure which I prefer more.

Dentist went reasonably well – tooth will require a crown in the next couple of weeks, but it looks like that will work out ok.

The purple truck should be all better tomorrow – the issue was a timing chip that just failed – no "evil parking lot type" stole the catalytic converter, or fan belt. Entropy was the culprit.

We’re all pretty tired… early to bed, early to rise, dear journal!

Got my serum at last/ at last, and EKG was done. I’ll know more after my doc reviews it.

Yellow Trike at Starbucks, man with bumblebee helmet – Man not shown. Nice Guy – goofy fan of his new ride… made a comment about lack of cup holders.

We went to Starbucks – BHK found a $15 gift card, so we figured we’d go – BHK’s pumpkin spice coffee was pretty nasty – I remember why we don’t go to that starbucks (or really any these days.) My lemonade/ passion fruit tea was jim-dandy.

Went to the BIG book sale, but I didn’t get anything, and BHK only got maybe 5 rather than our usual take of a big ikea bag’s worth. I think it got fairly picked over before we got there… earlier next time, perhaps.

Selby Sub Shop with in-laws, I had egg salad which was yummy. prior to that, I played spore for a bit while BHK dug on her new books, and Larry cut down the dead bits of our garden with the edge trimmer.

Amy’s taking a pass on vacationing here this week – sick mom at home and she want’s to stick by her there. Hopefully her mom feels better soon. We’ll likely see her in October-December sometime.

Best part of the night was coming home and having a "no power night" – lights low, relaxing to 40s music on the couch, reading a book while curled up with BHK.
