6885 – The first eater is like the latter eater?

I was right, seasons do bring change. I can see color returning to the world, and I hope for more warmth, though the sun is retreating from the earth. I have a heart full of hope, reds, browns and ornj.

Sadly Jumped the shark – Penn & Teller, George Carlin, Harlan Ellison. The pissed-off and snarky revealer of truth bit has worn thin, and made you guys look petty and mean.

City of Heroes First update is *sharp*. Well-timed, too. I like Eastgate, and the newly revised martial arts.

Am I weird for finding this robotoic pet blanket cute, rather than creepy?Site Meter

“Nicholas Stedman’s Blanket is a robotic sculpture in the form of a blanket that crawls around a space, finds people there and crawl over to and on top of them, “like a pet.” ”

I’m really looking forward to The Incredibles.

Good team. A stretchy, a brick, a speedster, invisi-forcefields, ice… looks like what little I’ve seen is well-written, too.

Dear M. Night Shyamalan,

It seems you can’t make a good movie without Bruce Willis. Call him back for the next flick you make. I loved 6th sense, and Unbreakable.

Signs and The Village, while having good bits in the middle at times, had poo endings.

Turn Gmail storage into a mountable file system

GmailFS provides a mountable Linux file system which uses your Gmail account as its storage medium. GmailFS is a Python application and uses the FUSE userland file system infrastructure to help provide the file system, and libgmail to communicate with Gmail.

GmailFS supports most file operations such as read, write, open, close, stat, symlink, link, unlink, truncate and rename. This means that you can use all your favorite Unix command line tools to operate on files stored on Gmail (e.g. cp, ls, mv, rm, ln, grep etc. etc.).

Cool.

Woo! I got my check from Google Adsense! Good deal, I wasn’t totally ripped off, after all. A lot of little financial windfalls lately!

Mike from Satan’s Laundromat photographs Critical Mass bicycle riders getting arrested Friday night and finds himself arrested and in jail overnight.

“they suddenly decided to start making arrests without warning, penning people in and arresting entire blocks’ worth of people, including hapless tourists and people getting off work who just happened to be in the area watching. And they couldn’t have been bothered to clean the diesel sludge off the floor of the holding pens where they made us sleep? Someone will pay.”

I hope *somebody* catches hell for that.

I’m glad to see that Cap’n Pete in Disney’s Three Musketeers cartoon has gone back to having a peg leg. Of course, the novel itself is public domain and available online. (you can always download and print it out if you prefer text on dead trees.)

It’s also the origin of GrayPumpkin & Katt’s little cow-kitty’s name. D’Art! (The first Kitty I was ever really social with.)

Hmm… Hurricane Frances travel projection looks like it’s headed this way, around midday Saturday. A lot can happen over the course of a week, but I’d wager it’ll hit the states *somewhere*.

Current Plot

6841 – Travel Pix, part 3 (Deseo la última edición con cantos dorados.)

Okay, last batch form the Saturday walkabout. I won’t be doing much this coming weekend, because I’m on call both days. I’ll settle for playing with Newtie, and watching my New DVDs that came in just last night (If I can wait that long)! Thank you again Oneyed, Sedef, and Granny! I fell strongly that my Plastic Man Archives will make it to me by then, too! Ah, comfort is truly giant monsters, plastic man, newton kitty, and spending the weekend in my jammies.

Well, no dice getting together with the oneeyed and the gang… one of their number wanted to return home once the power was on, so it’ll have to be next time. Maybe I’ll take a day-trip north to see the Edison / Ford Estates and lunch their neck of the woods! I’m glad they made it home ok, and that there was very little personal damage waiting for them.

Bro scammed the Mother out of about $150, claiming it was court costs. Lawyer said there were none, and Bro claims there wasn’t any receipt. Liar. That dumbass burned that bridge, now, too.

I convinced the PR department to not do Donkey Basketball as a fund raiser. Plenty of other fun ways to bring people together and donate money… no need to bring any animal cruelty or PETA picketers to the table.

Apparently T-Mobile was giving away free service all hurricane weekend. Good for you guys! You deserve some praise for that!

I fell asleep far too early last night, something like seven or so… I think I was fatigued from all of the stress over the missing Alabama boy. We were really scrambling the whole time I was at the office

I woke up at about 2:30am, got a drink of water and puttered for about an hour before trying to go back to bed. I really am a night person at heart… That was one of the nice things about IMT – the 4pm to midnight schedule.

I’m in the mood for some really good Tandoori Indian food lately… something better than . This bears some research. I’ll have to sniff out my local sources and see what they prefer.

I’ve got to focus more on more than just these little bits and pieces… the journal’s been scattered lately, and I could stand more writing practice. flying_blind‘s recent excellent entry reminded me of this.

Dear Lenny Kravitz – Don’t help the gap. You don’t want to be in there with SJP.

My entry about the Lumbee Indians is still getting activity, over two years after the first casting about for information about Roanoke. Until that research arc, I thought that the colonists had been massacred.

It’s true, I live inside the spread of one of the corners of the Bermuda Triangle. (Usually, the points are Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Miami, but they’ve been known to vary.) I wonder what major areas of supernatural repute are near folks on my friend’s list? Transylvanians? Amity? I know there’s a “stonehenger” or two.

6820 – Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

My head is just bouncing around topics this morning.

Random stuff, all, undivided by the hr-tag I use so much these days:

I used to get Lea Thompson and Ally Sheedy mixed up. Same goes for Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

I think the whole thing about dark matter / dark energy seems unlikely.

I could never remember the name of Doug Wu’s friend Tony who gamed with us as Silver Hammer, until I realized it was like the two main characters on Time Tunnel. Doug is in Seattle now, and Tony was lost to the social cult of Amway.

Some poor woman was trapped in the building’s elevator yesterday. I got to try and talk calmly to her and keep her from freaking out until the fire department arrived. That office space has the same stuff since the 50’s… It reminded me of when my sweetheart nearly got her arm bitten off by a carnivator in her old office spacer.

I did my apheresis (Plateletpheresis) yesterday, for the first time in a long while… it feels really good perform a charity while laying on a couch and watching cartoons.

I have terrible night vision.

I have a high threshold of pain, but once you pass it, I’m done.

6816 Morning, already?

Dang… Where do these Mondays keep coming from?Site Meter

I foresee more of the same sort of Monday shenanigans. Terribly long morning meeting, and then spend the rest of the day playing catch-up.

The opening crew is headed to Alabama for training next week, so it’ll be much lighter in that respect, next go-round.

Newt’s been in gabby-chatter mode quite a lot lately.I’m happy to give him all the attention he might like and probably more, though he like to be doted on for the most part.

It feels like my emotional gravity is out of whack. Parts of me are light, others dense, and drawn to the center of my being. Some sort of personal vibe version of solar flares.

30th anniversary of Nixon Resigning. I can think of a few presidents, both republican and democrat that probably should’ve stepped down in like fashion, since. People guilty of known criminal activity both prior and during office… and probably since then.

World Audit: ranks countries. Shows the U.S. as 9th in freedom, 12th in democracy. Interesting how Finland, the most democratic and thirdmost free on the page is also considered the most corrupt. How it’s measured.

According to Newsday, live video from the Olympics will be viewable online. However, ‘the footage will be highly restricted to protect lucrative broadcast contracts, which are sold by territory – $793 million paid by NBC alone. Web sites must employ technology to block viewers from outside their home countries, so U.S. Web surfers won’t benefit from the BBC’s live coverage. They’ll have to settle for highlights posted after NBC broadcasts, which are already largely tape-delayed.’

6807 – riding the bus, and etc.

Well, I changed the past again, but I had the paradox inhibitor on, so I have no idea what from, and really, what to.

Ah well.

Palm update from yesterday – 8/3/04 – bus ride to work

7:20 am – The route 1 bus’s scrolly-sign time settings are off, making it seem 2 hours later than it actually is.

Particularly bumpy ride… time to repave SE 3rd ave. It’s cool outside – the rains have suppressed the heat nicely.

12:24 pm – Morning meeting went well, met the new fund raiser… she seems nice enough, sort of reminds me of Betsy Sylvester, the girl up the street from my Boynton days.

Denny’s for lunch… veggie burger is rather expensive. i should keep some provisions in the freezer for the future.

Bro goes to court on Thursday? I wonder how he’ll do? I imagine he’ll be released, but you never know.

4:35 pm – There are a lot of well-dressed, damaged people on the bus, though not so many vagrant-types. Both mentally and / or physically broken folk. It reminds me of rt60, that goes to the methadone clinic… the price of riding the bus serving the hospital, jail, and courthouse. Not nearly so tricky a crowd on the 3:30 run.

end palm update

More shots of the “mystery creature” spotted around Maryland and North Carolina. It seems to be able to project the “blur-field” that Bigfoot-type beasties use to hide with.

The old opening to the I Dream of Jeannie TV show with the brushes on the drums and trumpets is really spiffy, though the more familiar theme is simpler to stick in my skull.

I first heard the euphemism “honking out a dirt snake” yesterday. Noted, but it’s unlikely that I’ll ever use it outside of writing dialog for a character here or there.

The David Rumsey Historical Map Collection has over 10,000 maps online. The collection focuses on rare 18th and 19th century North and South America maps and other cartographic materials.

6802 – August? Where did last month run off to?

I’ve got to remember to drop my monthly monies in the mail to the landlord. Bro’s court date is either tomorrow, or Wednesday, I forget which. I’m sure I’ll be reminded by end of day.

I can’t believe that I’ve been at my current gig for almost a year now. Serious time compression / dilation on that side of things.

Cripes… speaking of which, I have my Monday meeting today.. there goes another few hours into the john, unless I can give my update, and bug out.

I’m rather groggy… yesterday’s rainstorm put me in some sort of precipitation and cat-snuggle coma for a longer span of time that I needed to sleep. I fell into a deep slumber surrounded by the sounds of water hitting windows and roof, much rolling thunder, and Newt-purrs.

I’m really glad that the pro-wrestling trend has again retreated back into the seedy, tacky corner it came from. Now, I can cope with the wacky stuff like Luchadores and Midget Wresting (or best of all, a joining of the two), but the mainstream WWF/WWE/WWwhatever was just boring and invasive. I haven’t felt this good about something not bombarding my media since Clive Barker faded from view.

Ok, this is probably a rental, but I’d love to see a movie with thunderbirds-type puppets doing satire on the big screen, too. Team America – World Police

Interesting quote that applies to many blogs out here…

“You will just have to accept being addressed by a disembodied voice just as I accept the compulsion to speak out even though I am painfully aware that I am talking to an invisible, perhaps nonexistent audience.”
–Robert Shea, The Eye in the Pyramid

This whole touch screen thing makes Florida look like it *wants* to be guilty of more voter drama.

Want to listen to my station?

I’ve been using launch radio, calendar, weather, news and games a lot lately on my Y!M. Tasty little app.

oOmiaq wrote me recently, and thanked me for listening to his music. My pleasure, oOm.

Dan bailed for tonight, but we’ll probably get together tomorrow. I don’t mind, save for the short notice. I don’t really want to go to the Seminole casino on a flippin’ Friday, so that’s going to have to wait. I’m not sure what I want to do for my solo Saturday walkabout, yet. That Moonlight movie is that night… that could be a fun time. Maybe I’ll hit Port Everglades during the day, and see if I can spot some free-swimming manatees or turtles. I found out after my recent trip to Miami that there’s a natural calving / nursery area there.

Maybe tonight I’ll hit the Museum ‘f Art. It’s free until the end of August, just up the street, open until 9pm on Thursdays, and air-conditioned.

6792 – Offer not good after curfew in sectors R or Q.

Snickers with almonds is very tasty when frozen, but I preferred the chilled tangerine I also had for breakfast. Tasty morsels. I don’t use the word morsel often enough. Or Scrumdiddlyumptious. Ok, ok…I lied, dear journal…. I say scrumdiddlyumptious at least once or twice a month. Though, to make up for the “morsel” imbalance, I also hardly ever say “Oh, snap”.

The soft, spicy odor of incense, wafting in from the corridor between my bedroom and bath brings me calm on hectic days. It’s getting easier for me to realize when I’m tense lately, and once I know that I’m stressed, I can channel that attitude out to make way for more productive behavior.

When I decide to veg out…I usually sit Indian-style or other comfortable position, usually with Newt nearby. I let all the random jetsam spinning around in my mind slowly settle onto the floor of my mind for proper storage or disposal. Sometimes whole books hit the ground when the mental wind slows down, but usually it’s closer to fortune-cookie slips of paper and multi-colored index cards with quickly scrawled information on it, including “continued on card number XXX” written on the bottom. Sometimes the connected card is nearby or someplace that I can retrieve it quickly, other times, it’s probably in one of the piles off in one of the corners.

I picture my mental room as octagonal-shaped, having hardwood floors and highlights, a network of bookshelf-columns radiating out from the center, and glass walls leading up to a covered dome with a skylight on top. Secret Memories of an ancestor that was into trepanation? I don’t see any self-surgery in my future. The amount of light inside reflects my mindset, with thick drapes that could blot out an atomic blast when darkness is absolutely needed.

There are monkeys, too. Or Ghosts. Maybe Monkey Ghosts. That’s it. Probably genetically enhanced… or with some sort of mystic talisman thingie.

Storywise, sometimes I don’t see myself as a main character. It’s easy to fall in the role of support, or walk-on… no limelight, but more like Wilson on Home Improvement, though, if I was to stretch the example, I suppose that I could grab the Al role here and there. I try to be helpful and am mostly soft spoken, a little too off the beaten path to be a primary focus. I suspect that’d change if I was under the same roof with my sweetheart, rather than having us end up being the wacky neighbors.

Then again, there was the Grizzly Adams TV show. Random trivia… Ben the bear was named for Ben Franklin.
