9089 – friday

current music – driver 8 (in my head)

Sputnik Cafe is closing… ah well. One trip was really enough.

Friday 5 –

1. Are you married?

Yup! BHK all the way! 😀

2. When do your claws come out?

When people I love are seriously threatened. (Including me!)

3. Have you ever been in a car accident?

More than one! I’ve been the passenger all times but one, though.

4. Who is the last person you held?

BHK, and she was holding Pye at the time! (Newt was curled up next to my leg. Love fest!)

5. Describe a time you’ve gone overboard:
Hard to recall… I fell out of a canoe once, back when I was 17 or 18, trying to woo a gal by moonlight. That never panned out for me.

Hmm… I’m surprised this wifi sensing t-shirt only goes to XXL… they’ve got to know that geeks are prone to running larger than that. It’s a pretty cool thing… I wouldn’t mind having that woven into a laptop bag or a pda pouch.

After work, I got with BHK and we grabbed a little nibble at *$. Also got her a pre-christmas present, glittery green coffee travel mug… it eased the day a bit, given the assorted annoyances of the day brought earlier in the forms of Condo, Health Care, Bar, Bills and so on. Amazing what a little hot tea and milk will do to ease the mind. We eventually toddled home to a light supper and and early bedtime.

A study from Mental Health America ranks the most depressed states in America. Here they are, ranked from happiest to saddest. (via fallentoad)

The study ranks the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on rates of depression and suicide. Researchers found that states with easier access to mental health resources had lower suicide rates. (see also – Smaller babies grow up to be sadder adults / Study links low birth rate to depression, anxiety later in life)

Depression is a serious medical illness that comes in many forms with a variety of symptoms.
If you have any of the following symptoms for a prolonged period, it may be time to seek help.

  1. Persistent sad or anxious mood
  2. Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
  3. Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  4. Loss of interest in hobbies or activities
  5. Fatigue or decreased energy
  6. Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  7. Insomnia or oversleeping
  8. Changes in appetite or weight
  9. Thoughts of death or suicide
  10. Restlessness or irritability
  11. Headaches or chronic pain

Of the above, I tend meet the qualifications from number 6 (not so much), 10 and 11, though I don’t think that I suffer from depression, rather, physical issues are causing them.

Speaking of which, I went to the doc for a reviewing of the back situation. Aside from the standard “eat better, exercise more” bit, there wasn’t much else to report just yet. I make an appointment for an MRI tomorrow.

First (publicly posted) Sentences of the month in 2007 –

  1. Jan – Something I post at the top of every new year, and I appreciate the words more with every additional trip around the sun.
  2. Feb – Gentle day, all told – Went out to Jerry’s for lunch, shopped for party food, got a haircut ( short, but I think it looks good.)
  3. Mar – Chatted a bit with graypumpkin online about gaming, road trips and whatnot while I was doing online research about gigs and following up on resumes (not to mention found info about MCSE server 2003).
  4. Apr – Rode with Tina and BHK to urgent care over chest congestion – seems like sinus infections related to allergies is the rule of the day.
  5. May – BHK and I might do something special for May Day.
  6. Jun – They offered me the gig!

  9. Sep – Rennfest was a hoot! Much larger venue than South Florida’s, and more professionally done.
  10. Oct – Cathy and Dave over tonight for Lasagna, conversation (they’re moving to Colorado once the house is sold) and a couple of games of apples to apples.
  11. Nov – Skipped the jacket on the commute to and from work today – 55-65F isn’t too bad with a long sleeved shirt.
  12. Dec – Nice morning, until I got out of bed and pulled my back.

9082 – tuesday

So windy yesterday and today, that the windows in the building are creaking… sounds like a ship at sea. One of my coworkers claims that she can feel the building move.. I’m not that sensitive to motion – the tower seems pretty dang sturdy to me.

Somehow I doubt this will happen here any time soon, let alone this. Sakes… was Wilma two years ago, already?

We’ve been pretty fortunate, storm-wise lately. One Ice storm on Valentine’s Day… what more reason do you need to stay indoors?

BHK picked me up from work, rather than have me take the Metro home… That shaved 2 hours off of my commute – more quality time with the Missus. We stopped off at *$ for cocoa, and then grabbed a little California Tortilla for take home… watched open season with the in-laws and then played a little classic mario bros before retiring.

9070 – Happy Thanksgiving!

turkey
A year away from ACIM. Who’d have thought it? Good to have moved on, though I’m very proud of the good I accomplished while I was there.

I’m so thankful that I’m here now… I have a loving family, some nice local friends, a good job… let alone the default things like a roof over my head, regular feedings and the ability to read!

To hear BHK and me gobbling, listen to last year’s holiday entry.

Pictures to color! Embiggen at will!

turkey

Ze has a good talk about thanks, from a year ago.

Off to the in-laws with BHK… she prepared a quorn “turkey” roast, veggies, cake, stuffing, and all manner of goodness. I don’t know how it could possibly beat the shepherds pie she made for me last night, but if anyone can do it, she can. I’m truly blessed to be married to such a warm, loving, beautiful, brilliant woman who can cook, too!

Baconsalt – Our mission in life is to make everything taste like real, delicious bacon, without the fat or calories. (Vegetarian friendly!) I like that they call themselves “Bacontrepreneurs”

I tend to agree with Mr. Fry’s assessment about Americans (as opposed to folks in the UK) and debate. Just because I disagree with you, it’s not an attack on you, personally. (Scroll down to “Getting Overheated).

Newtnewtie and Pyepyecam1 have been activenewtcam … BHK sent me samples of lunchtime travels.

I’m glad Newtcam continues to get a good workout!

They’re getting more and more tolerant and friendly with one another – see below.
newt and pye close

Just because someone isn’t on my “friends list” here on LJ, it doesn’t mean I’m not reading other ones… I wonder why folks are so surprised when I comment on something that they wrote and I don’t auto link them? There are a lot of reasons not to… maybe I don’t want them reading my “friend’s only” posts… or maybe they write so often that it floods out my aggregator. Or Maybe I’m just nosy, and want to peek in on random people from time to time, rather than every day.

meme from talonvaki

“Teeth are cool… I wonder how you’d replace them with Gemstones, like in Miracleman’s Adrian Cream”

Very little. Maybe $.045? I’m overdue to hit the ol’ ATM

3. What’s a word that rhymes with “DOOR?”
Score!

4. Favorite planet?
Earth works best for me… excluding the obvious, I like Uranus, because it has a sideways axis, rings, and is a childish word-joke for some folks.

5. Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your cell phone?
Larry, about a week ago. Probably trying to call me re:dinner plans.

6. What is your favorite ring on your phone?

Supper at La Tolteca tonight… not so great. Flavorless beans, lackluster chips and salsa… enchiladas were blah. The Potato & Onion Burrito was pretty good, as were the spinach-veggie thingies, but it was a no go. The decor of Meso-American Indians performing sacrifices had far more flavor than the food.

Two homeless guys from the other day – The PG station on the green line is a pretty sad place. these two had enough resources to stagger on and shamble to a seat…. both were massively out of it, due to disabilities either ingrained or added with outside substances. Possibly both. The next sop, a policeman came aboard and lurked next to them for the bulk of the trip… as soon as he left, they began slap-fist fighting. Nothing serious, but I’m glad I got off at the following stop… it’s just sort of depressing to see folks like that.

HAM-A-RAMA!

I hate it when Ty is right about stuff like this. I’m pretty sure I’d throw in with robot overlords, too. (Also, Zod in 2008 might work.)From his entry

We’re already giving up our freedoms — our right to privacy, gone. Warrant-less arrest, gone. Right to have your vote counted is super-gone depending on the state you live in, right to stand trial, gone — we have torture. We already have all the downsides of a supposed robotic takeover, but we’re being cheated of the upside! I say, if this is the world we’re gonna live in anyway, at least let the robot overlords have their shot. World peace, technological utopia — and no crime! The robot overlords’ crime control is swift and merciless.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult female in the United States is 63.8 inches (5 feet, 3.8 inches) and for a man it is 69.2 inches (5 feet, 9.2 inches)

That seems a bit shorter than the average women I see every day, but about right for men.

I wonder if the height difference between women and men contributes very much to gender roles?

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Neutral

You’re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you’re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don’t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Quiche and Soup for supper tonight… tasty tasty tasty. Samantha Who was weaker tonight than usual, but is a neat concept.

The latest episode of The Office is probably one of the best ones this season. I want to be in a “Finer Things” club with BHK, but I fear I would suffer the same pitfalls.

I have Flight of the Conchords’ “It’s Business Time” in my head, sung with the Lyrics of “It’s Christmas Time” – At least it’s not what poor BHK has stuck in hers… “Crabs for Christmas

Her Lyric in question –

Santa said, Put that man down this instant!
Now, my boy, want you want’s not that odd.
But there’s no crabs till May,
So hop in my sleigh,
And we’ll fly to New England and I’ll get you scrod.

NO, NAWWWWT SCRAWWWWWD!!!!

Eat more chocolate and help the environment.

LONDON (Reuters) – Chocoholics can assuage any guilt they may feel after a new process was developed that turns the by-products of making chocolate into a biofuel — meaning you can eat your chocolate and be eco-friendly.

A truck, fuelled by the biofuel, will set out from Poole on the English south coast to Mali in West Africa later this month on a charity mission.

“The chocolate waste used to be used in landfill. But now we can make it travel as biofuel,” said organiser Andy Pag who will be one of the two drivers on the trip.

North western English firm Ecotec has taken waste from the chocolate manufacturing process, turned it into bio-ethanol and mixed it with vegetable oil to produce biodiesel.

Some biofuels have come under fire for either diverting much-needed food crops or leading to massive deforestation as land is cleared to grow crops specially for biofuel production.

“This is to show that you can have environmentally-friendly biofuels and that you don’t have to convert normal diesel engines to use it,” Pag told Reuters.

The BioTruck will depart on November 26 and is expected to take about three weeks to drive the 4,500 miles to Timbuktu where it will off-load a small biofuel production unit with the local MFC charity.

But vehicles using the novel product will not exude the sweet smell of success. “No! I’m afraid the exhaust doesn’t smell of chocolate,” said Pag.

Moment of Lyric – They Might Be Giants – The Mesopotamians (video via Kat)

We’ve been driving around
From one end of this town to the other and back
But no one’s ever seen us (No one’s ever seen us)
Driving our Econoline van (And no one’s ever heard of our band)
And no one’s ever heard of our band

We’re the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

Then they wouldn’t understand a word we say
So we’ll scratch it all down into the clay
Half believing there will sometime come a day
Someone gives a damn
Maybe when the concrete has crumbled to sand

We’re the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

The Mesopotamish sun is beating down
And making cracks in the ground
But there’s nowhere else to stand
In Mesopotamia (No one’s ever seen us)
The kingdom where we secretly reign (And no one’s ever heard of our band)
The land where we invisibly rule

As the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

This is my last stick of gum
I’m going to cut it up so everybody else gets some
Except for Ashurbanipal, who says my haircut makes me look like a Mohenjo-Daren

Hey, Ashurbanipal
I’m a Mesopotamian
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

We’re the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

“Hey, man, I thought that you were dead
I thought you crashed your car”
“No, man, I’ve been right here this whole time playing bass guitar
For the Mesopotamians”

We’re the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

We’re the Mesopotamians
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal, and Gilgamesh

Ahhh.. now *there* is the October weather I’ve been waiting for! 55 degrees! That’s the stuff!

Random bit of fun – the other day I saw a cyclist riding around on a penny-farthing bicycle… in helmet, spandex shorts and so on. I would’ve almost preferred to see a bowler hat and waxed moustache, but the clash of modern and historical was even better, I think.

Nope… but I did make some trades that seemed awfully in my favor – I give you my smarties, and you give me your fun size snicker bars? sure!

Misc Questions

If you were a character in a horror movie, would you survive?

Yup.

Were you afraid to go in the ocean after you saw Jaws?
I was, but I was a little kid! I got over it in under a week.

Would you eat a human if your life depended on it?
Probably. I hope I never have to find out.

I dreamed that my body was made of plastic squares, and pieces were left behind wherever I went… I was worried that I’d run out, because I couldn’t put the acrylic/lego type squares back on.

The Small Press Expo will be held in Bethesda this weekend, Friday and Saturday. SPX is the biggest gathering of independent comic artists and cartoonists on the east coast and will feature many local artists from DC, Maryland and Virginia. I’ve got other plans (birthday party – even more fun, and pre-scheduled)

Movies I haven’t seen yet, but wouldn’t mind catching in the theater while they’re still out –

3:10 to Yuma
Darjeeling Limited
Michael Clayton
Eastern Promises
We Own The Night
The Dark Is Rising – yikes… really poor reviews. Maybe not.

Whoops – Dragon Wars movie is already kaput? That didn’t take long. I guess it’s just as well.

No movie tonight, however. We’re preparing for the previously mentioned party for Bugah and Em’s… we’re going to be pulling the in-laws and louise in tow, so it should be a humdinger.

Nice simple, rustic dinner tonight – Deviled eggs and salad (both egg salad and salad-salad). yum.

Speaking of simple and Rustic – Watched “The F word” with Gordon Ramsey… it’s out of rotation… just isn’t compelling at all. Kitchen Nightmares UK is the best of his lot so far, I think.

Happy Birthday, Pac-Man!

A bare trickle of rain tonight… cool weather tomorrow?

Washington DC’s Pedestrian Master Plan – good thing, given about 700 pedestrians a year are hit by cars in the District, which factors out to about two a day.

Book meme – Don’t hold these to me too tightly – “favorite” is a tough word regarding something as vast as literature.

1. Hardcover or paperback, and why?
Paperback – portability… I’d even prefer e-book format over that, if the reader is comfortable.

2. If I were to own a book shop I would call it…
Salmagundi or Argosy

3. My favorite quote from a book (mention the title) is…

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury –

It was this then, the mystery of man seizing from the land and the land seizing back, year after year, that drew Douglas, knowing the towns never really won, they merely existed in calm peril, fully accoutered with lawn mower, bug spray and hedge shears, swimming steadily as long as civilization said to swim, but each house ready to sink in green tides, buried forever, when the last man ceased and his trowels and mowers shattered to cereal flakes of rust.

4. The author (alive or diseased) I would love to have lunch with would be…
Ray Bradbury… about 35 years ago.

5. If I was going to a deserted island and could only bring one book, except from the SAS survival guide, it would be…
Some sort of large compilation volume, if I were to go against the spirit of the question. Just one? Robinson Crusoe might be a too ironic choice. Actually, I think I’d prefer to take a blank book, and as many writing implements as I could.

6. I would love someone to invent a bookish gadget that…
Had a decently sized screen and was comfortably portable.

7. The smell of an old book reminds me of…
back wen I worked a the library… hiding spots among the deep stacks in the 780s.

8. If I could be the lead character in a book (mention the title), it would be…
I’ll have to lead with Doug in Dandelion Wine, again.

9. The most overestimated book of all times is…
Joyce’s Ulysses would be high on that list, at least for me.

10. I hate it when a book…
holds its own just fine, and then the author (or worse, some other author) writes a really terrible sequel… or series of sequels. see: Ender’s Game or Pern Series for example.

Cathy and Dave over tonight for Lasagna, conversation (they’re moving to Colorado once the house is sold) and a couple of games of apples to apples. BHK swept the night by winning both games, despite Cathy’s extending the winning conditions from 8 to 10, and then 12 cards on the 2nd game.

Oddball winner of the night – “Cuddly” – Al Pacino, Quicksand, and Warts. Pacino won over Quicksand by a smidgen.

Current meme thingie –

Comment on this post. If you’re interested, I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

Christin picked – animal rights, exotic cuisine, horror, libraries, pyewacket, roadside attractions, vikings

  • animal rights – Critters have been a pet project for me for as long as I can remember. Something just feels fundamentally wrong when folks don’t hurting something – why not, if it’s only a “stupid animal”. I’ve been around a number of creatures that are more than just food or clothing, and would prefer that they be neither in a perfect world. I understand that it isn’t a perfect world… but I try to treat critters well.

  • exotic cuisine – I like new foods and flavors… it seems like every place has a different idea about what is tasty and what flavors work well together. I’ve developed a special fondness for some of the more commonly available ethnic foods… Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Ethiopian, German, Italian all bring something spiffy to the table both in traditional and Americanized forms. Nothing that walks on more than one foot, or less than six to eat, though… thanks.

  • horror – I enjoy the genre. More in literature than in film lately, though I can get into a scary movie here and there. Some of the best books I know shine a light at odd angles on stuff that lurks in my imagination, making the shadows large and frightening.

  • libraries – worked in one the better part of high school and college. great places, lots to see and do – plus there are books out the wazoo. I have many fond memories from the library. It’s where I first gamed, back in 6th grade.

  • Pyewacket – he got his name from bell, book and candle (which in turn got it from this Pyewacket) – He’s the baby of our family, 4ish to Newton’s 7ish years old. He’s very laid back, and when you pick him up, you can cradle him like an infant. He’s been a wonderful addition to my family, and I love him dearly.

  • roadside attractions – BHK and I stopped at a number of Ripley’s Believe it or Not locations on the side of the road during our honeymoon, and there’s something equally fascinating to me about oddball bits of Americana… Urban Ruin plus Muffler Men = wonder to my mind. Weird water towers, tourist traps and whatnot. The chintz factor bleeds over a little bit into horror for me, too. Best place for a zombie uprising is an old mini golf course. See also recent entries on the ATW man, or http://www.lostamerica.com/roadside.html

  • vikings – Some people favor pirates… I lean to the more Norse cousins… the romanticized version, of course… sailing to new worlds in ships with serpent heads, burying an axe in your oath-breaking cousin, casting runes and thinking about times when the world was a still cooling body of a giant. What’s not to like? The Norse Eddas are some of my favorite old stories.

I’m feeling a little sick today – sore joints, sore throat, only on the right-hand side. Getting chills – I rarely get cold. (edit – I’m full blown destroyed. by the time I got home, I could barely walk or function. Severe fever, muscle aches. went to bed on arrival, and burned up all night)

Surprised that nobody commented on the video. I may start putting more in there, depending on what happens where.
S6300314
Also forgot to post the giant sponge bob in the hay maze. He’s about 25 feet tall.

BHK spotted Cranium Triple Triumph at target – I wonder how hard it’d be to convert to icehouse? (Rules here) Maybe a variant, at least, using stacking and mono-colors.

She also brought home lots of fun loot for Halloween. Orange/mango candy corn, Dwight Schrute fridge magnets, and a cool back-lit pirate silhouette!

The quiz that’s making the rounds… it looks like all the numbers are intact… or at least they’re in sequence. I wonder how many there were from the beginning?

Overslept – quick post while BHK gets ready. I feel bad – I wasn’t ready when my ride came to get me to the train.

Yummy, simple meals lately. Stir-fry broccoli w/tofu and carrot over brown rice day before yesterday and garden burgers with fried potatoes last night. Good stick to your ribs type stuff.

Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares – USA is a bit different than the UK version. I anticipate a physical fight in one of these, given our continent’s “Wild West” proclivities. You just can’t bawl some people out like he does.

Good synopsis here.

Game ideas developing in my head – Giants and Dwarfs, Pumpkin, and Rabbit, Fox, Bear (Brier Patch) – all are in the most germ-like beginnings.

Giants and Dwarfs is an “ants vs elephant” or Ogre “Big tank(s) vs many infantry” type theme.

Pumpkin is a multi-player maze game through a pumpkin patch. Possibly Team oriented, or every man for himself. (or both.) I like the idea of using eeore’s chessboard wedges for each player. Complexity seems to go up per increment/player.

RFB is a variation on King’s Table. (Hunter vs hunted) – Added theme of a Brier patch, and Uncle Remus.

Fun Quiz… I’m especially partial to the program that assembles the blueprint parts together!

Your home is a

Gamer’s Hideout

Your kitchen is stocked with chips, dips, and assorted caffeinated beverages. There’s a pantry with emergency backup caffeinated beverages. You also have some breakfast cereals in there, but you haven’t had breakfast since last Spring. Your master bedroom has blankets printed with images of Mario and Link. Your study includes unread copies of various gamer magazines, each purchased for the free demo CDs.

Your home also includes a roost for griffons. You’ve never actually seen a griffon, but you keep the roost ready anyway. Your guests enjoy your collection of every console and associated game ever made. Except the Intellivision — those controllers drive them NUTS. Outside is the moat that protects your home from goblin invaders and extended family.

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:

We do have a moat, actually – and our pantry is similar.

Thinking good thoughts for mootpoint, Mol, and Dominic.

Payday! Just in time, as BHK and I both got to the doc and I get a pair of fillings on my right side. BHK’s teeth are jim-dandy… remember to floss!

I grabbed this from yoames / phillykat / pilarcruz and countless others.

1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/.
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their “Career Matchmaker” questions.
4. Post your top ten results.

Here’s mine – (I kept going, to answer all the questions. My first pass had a lot more computer/social worker stuff)

  1. Epidemiologist – Sounds interesting, but I don’t have *any* solid training for it. Could come in handy for the coming zombie apocalypse… or preventing one! Best case, already in a clean house-type bunker. Worst case, that’s where the epidemic starts. I guess if I worked for a villain, before dying, I could at least say that I worked in a lair fashioned inside of a dormant volcano, under the sea in a bubble-city, or from a satellite lab in high-earth orbit.
  2. Oceanographer – I still haven’t finished reading Fluke, but I do enjoy marine biology. I imagine the optimal life doing that sort of thing… maybe like an idyllic remake of the Flipper TV or Jonny Quest. Living in the keys, fighting pirates, discovering sea-monsters, etc. Would I get a hydrofoil and cool gadgets?
  3. Anthropologist – Humans are pretty fascinating critters. I suspect that I’d be more interested in this than Oceanographer. Field work at the ocean would be more palatable to me, though. Again with the Jonny Quest. Maybe with a little less or Race Bannon’s “Take that, you heathen savages!” I will, however accept bad guys that die with a scream of “AIeeee!” as they fall from a cliff, get disemboweled by Yeti, or are shot by whatever helpful bodyguard/guide-types are along for the ride.
  4. Writer – I try to do that here and again, but the time factor keeps popping up. I really need to devote an hour a day to it, and I simply don’t have the will to set aside the time to do it properly. I’ll always love doing it, but I’d have to have a way to support myself and my family if it were my full-time gig. I know quite a few writers, both professional, “wannabe” pro, and strong amateur, most of them very talented at word-craft. Given the amount of junk writing that’s out there, I’m fairly confident that I could find a niche with the right publicist. Also would be handy for “Murder, HE wrote” mysteries later in life. If Angela Lansbury can do it, so can I.
  5. Botanist – I do like plants. Do I like ’em enough to make them my life? Not sure. The Sea and Humans certainly have more of my interest. Now, if it were the phytoplankton people from Atlantis, I guess I’d be set… especially if they need some Research done on their databases. see below. I know what happens to Botanists. Ask Jason Woodrue, Ted Sallis, Alec Holland, Pam Isley, or any of dozens of folks turned into plant-critters, green psychos, pod people or muck-encrusted mockeries of men. Maybe when pot is legal, or if I lived on the planet Mardru.
  6. Library Technician – been there, done that. Fun and rewarding if you surround yourself with the right people. (true of most any job, really) It can be pretty thankless, and while I like books, I’m a far stretch from Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode.
  7. Historian – So very variable. Some parts of the past are amazing… other bits are deadly dull. Plus, the pay issue again- I imagine it’s difficult to live on the average historian’s wages. How do I become an authority?
  8. Researcher – If I could make any good, livable wage doing this for an organization that wasn’t a super-villain, I’d probably dig it. Depends on the research, though… do I really want data about women’s shoe sizes, and how they compare to hemlines? Fairly close to historian, Above. Job description is too vague.
  9. Database Developer – Heck, that’s a chunk of what I’m doing in my gig right now! I enjoy the challenges and solving the puzzles that arise in most of the larger builds that I’ve had to do.
  10. Multimedia Developer – I’ve dabbled with this… seems like a very competitive field to get a gig that’s worthwhile.

Web Developer, Systems Programmer and such all appear in the top 40, further down the list.

Limited edition Raspberry M&M’s are pretty good. Not amazing, but not too shabby. I prefer the holiday mint ones….and wouldn’t mind if they did orange-chocolate M’s.

Getting this entry out of the way early, as I don’t forsee much computer time tonight… see two lines up. I’m looking forward to a nice evening of Movies and games in our little treehouse loft, or in the living room. (depending on our desire to watch stuff on the laptop or the dvd player.

[edit – Strike that, we had Chinese at in-laws and watching “Because I said so”. Maybe Games and yo-yo tomorrow! Good food and good company tonight – movie was meh.]

Until Saturday-ish, dear journal!
