A bunch of interesting web search finds. Twill probably bore you to tears, but I find it all interesting.
“Did Caucasians inhabit North America before “Native” Americans? According to the few scientists who have studied the remains of Kennewick man, a pre-Colonial humanoid skeleton, the answer to this confounding question is “yes”. Kennewick Man, along with the oldest six human remains found within present day United States of America, display Caucasian characteristics in a geographical location traditionally viewed by Americans to have supported Indians indefinitely.”

“Mystery of the First Americans
In 1996, near Kennewick, Washington, two college students stumbled across a human skull and forensic anthropologists not only identified it as Caucasian, but also discovered it is almost 10,000 years old. The discovery of the Kennewick Man, along with several other startling finds in recent years, has embroiled scientists in a bitter conflict with Native American groups who want the scientific study of early Americans halted. Originally produced as a segment on the PBS program Nova. 2000. 60 min. Video/C 7437”

“The case of Kennewick Man led to academic and legal debates, and to struggles between scientists and Indian tribes. A few days after the skull and the rest of the body had been found, the federal government seized the remains and prevented further research. Eight scientists sued the Army Corps of Engineers who had taken the skeleton away for repatriation to the Indian tribes who had claimed it. The case is not resolved yet. Measurements need to be proven, NAGPRA is involved, and it has to be determined which tribes are affiliated with the site.”
