8301 – Good… Saturday?

Dreamt that I was in Disney world chasing a shape-shifting Newton. Hippo, Crocodile, Puma, then Newt, depending on the tone of voice I was using to call to him, and what part of the magic kingdom we were in… mostly Haunted Mansion / Tiki Birds region. He seemed to stick with changing into other animals, but was always recognizable by me, somehow. I finally caught him at Pirates of the Caribbean, on the island with the impaled skeleton. (where the seagull is sitting).

Went with Danny out to Masamune, my first time there. The food was superb. I’d have to say the spicy tofu appetizer was the best I’ve ever had. I’ll be going back pretty frequently, I suspect. I also had a cucumber roll, salad and tempura veggies. It was nice to have about 5 hours with Danny for the first time in an age.. he picked me up at work, did some shopping (I got a new UPS battery at the Depot, and he got a DVD at Barnes & Noble -The Quest for Fire.

Outside was a weird security tower/siege machine looking gizmo.

It seats one inside, has a light flasher on top, wind gauge, speakers on all sides, and can be elevated to about four stories or so. it seats one, and has a nice air conditioning unit on top, a swell as very dark-tinted windows. I wonder what purpose it serves in the parking lot? Some sort event there later?

We got to catch up.. I’m glad things are going quite a bit better for him and Jan, for the most part.

Freaky, sinister seeming Easter tradition in Spain – processions in classic pre-inquisition Christian garb.

Too bad we don’t do this here, but I suppose some folks would confuse ’em for Klansmen.

8299 – It’s good Friday!

Spent some time with Tina and her crew over at Murphy’s. She was showing off her new car, and is probably going to quit Murph’s and just stay with her day gig, now that the car’s bought.

Getting together with Danny after work… still don’t know what we’re doing. I’m fairly surprised he’s not going to some sort of services.

Here are some friends who invite you into their [web] homes to enjoy records with them. Let’s go for a visit! These recordings are typically old rarities that have not been reissued on CD format.

8297 – Coming at you like a shark with knees!

Newt was shown in yesterdays Zefrank video news post. Sadly, Zefrank says that animals aren’t allowed in any known League of Awesomeness. It seems I must submit a power move of my own, and thenget Newton into the league’s good graces later.

Maybe I should show my eyestalk yoink power move!

Got together with Kat and Graypumpkin yesterday at lunch. Nice time was had lunch of bagel sammiches and I got gifties of Issues 4 & 5 of The Thing Comic, 1, 2, and 3 of the grant morrison superman comic, and a cool squishy toy.. an awesome replacement for blinky. It was nice visiting with ’em… It’s been over a decade since I’ve seen ’em. ’94, I think. We spoke about the usual.. fmaily, firneds, comics, livejournal, sushi, the appropriateness of naming a flower shop “adam and eve” -quoth kat “I’d like some apple blossoms, please!”, the danger of shrimp trucks.

Squishy octopus is pretty awesome, and he looks more durable than Blinky – hidden inside his swirling, glittery maw, are the two ultimate yin yang of good/evil of the deep… a great white shark and bottle nose dolphin, eternally battling inside the octocosm.

I didn’t give ’em the Dr. Who dvd, because I didn’t know we were doing lunch until mid-morning. If I was a cool guy, I’d drop it in the mail for them to come home to… or I can try and ge tthe first ep of th enew season on Sat, first.

If I wasn’t a dolt, I’d have taken pictures but I was too busy enjoying their company to remember my camera. Tomorrow they’re off ot tampa, and I doubt I’ll ge tot visit again before they head back to the lone star state. I look forward to seeing them again sometime soon.

Kudos to Mandy on her first day at the Chem lab!

Kev took a job doing programming as a civilian for the DoD at Gitmo. (The same place Hav used to do his gig.) Sounds like a sweet deal.. they’re training him, giving security clearance, paying for his lodging.. (everything but food and phone) great pay too.. only downside is, well.. it’s Cuba. He’ll get time off and such, but he can’t bring the puppies or kitties with him, either. (That’d be a deal breaker for me).. It’s about a 2 hour flight from here, so returning won’t be much of an issue on holiday. (about a month off every year).

I’m really happy for him.. he’s finally doing something worthwhile, well-paying, and for a boss he respects. I suspect he’ll really flourish there. He’s heading out there ein June, so we’ve got to have a few “fart parties” before he’s off to points south. I really would love for him to tell the pilot “TAKE THIS PLANE TO CUBA!”, but that’s probably a bad first impression.

AB was fired yesterday – wasn’t cutting it. RP will be out new agent ni Michigan… I think she’ll do a good job. RI is off to Texas for a week, and I think we’ll all get things done. It’ll be nice to have a new tech outside of the state.

8295 – And we’re back. Again. Monday. Yes.

GP and Kat are in Florida for the next week or so, arrived Saturday sometime. May get together with ’em either tonight or tomorrow, if the stars are right. (They have a very demanding schedule when in town, and understandably so… both sets of parents live down here, and they want ’em as much as they can get ’em.), got to talk to GP yesterday on the phone for a while, and it was a fine time – mentions were made of the insanity of genius, and how people can breed for a longer period now, and family politics. (The youngest child will be the baby, even if they have children of their own. Interesting that both GP and Kat are both last-borns to older parents. My Folks had me when my dad was 23, and Mom was 21.)

(Though it seems other vacationers are Killer bees)

Wonderful rain today… classic Florida big drops in wind that causes it to fall at about a 45 degree angle. I’m glad my porch has enough of a roof overhang to stop things from getting soaked… nice to sit out there, soak up the ozone smell from the thunderstorm, and just soak up the sights and sounds around me. Not a bad time to do laundry… made everything smell sort of rainy-fresh that was hung up out back, though it took forever to dry.

Finally finished re-downloading Dr. Who 2005 season and the Christmas special; Burned the dvd. Hopefully, I’ll remember to hand them off to GP and Kat. (and another set to Danny when I see him next week). They look even better in High Def.

Next series, HBO’s Rome. I need to get that to a few people on my reading list.

Perversely fascinating. Bad Talk radio.. mostly folks trying to update from the road. Some folks a little drunk… it’s fun to her folks monologue in varying degrees of skill. Well, I’m running late.. suffice to say it’s a nice 60’s-ish electro-organ/harmony groovy/haunting sort of song. It’s a good walkabout tune, especially when on one’s own.

KittenAuth Test – best human vs bot security ever. (via waxy)

KittenAuth is a new system for human-checking that forgoes all the useless random string crap that people cannot read, and replaces the whole lot with pictures of cute animals.

The current 9*9 design displays 9 pictures and requires that the user clicks 3 pictures of kittens. The location of the kittens in the grid is random and to make things more fun the contents of the pictures changes too.

What to do? Where to go?

Maybe a trip south to Miami? North to Palm Beach? Just Stay home and do laundry, fool on the internet and play with Baron von Newtonstien?

A few basic appointments today… Cleaning lady, Newt’s Checkup, but after 1 or so, I should be free. I have wanderlust, but no urge to do any actual walking. Perhaps a bike ride is in order. I’ll have it worked out by the time Rosemary leaves.

Whoops, Cleaning lady’s going to be here soon, time for me to fix up a bit beforeI head to the porch.

Lost was the best one in a while last Wednesday. Some decent acting, and set pieces.

Designed a mega-trampoline for 2nd Life, and it seemed to go over well with the 3 Sirens crowd. Launch and sound works well, but you still land with a heck of a thump. version 2.5 will be a bit more gentle. Timmy Turtle’s pursuit mode is more realistic, too. (if you outrun him, and another person is closer, he’ll home in on them.)

It’s been a little while since I last heard from my brother. I’m hoping that is a good sign. He’s still unaware of my street address, though he could get it with only a modicum of detective work. He’s very clever, despite his best efforts to harm his own faculties. No news frequently translates into good news.

Loki is pretty nifty. Surprisingly, it doesn’t use win2k, only XP sp 1 and greater, but there is a beta for both MSIE and Mozilla, and seems especially useful for laptop or mobile computer users. Lots of nifty local items to check out. It tries to workout where you are and then gives you various tools for doing stuff with that knowledge, including inserting geoTags to any form that takes an input. Unfortunately, Shopping links to already dead cairo.

In my head during shower and shave this morning –

How do?xRABBIT-OF-SEVILLE
Welcome to my shop, let me cut your mop, let me shave your crop
Daintily, daintily
Hey you!
Don’t look so perplexed, why must you be vexed, can’t you see you’re next
Yes you’re next, you’re so next
How about a nice close shave
Teach your whiskers to behave
Lots of lather lots of soap
Please hold still don’t be a dope
Now we’re ready for the scraping
There’s no use to try escaping
Oh, wait until I get that rabbit
Yell & scream & rant & rave
It’s no use you need a shave
(oh ouch ouch oh ouch oh oh ouch)
There, you’re nice and clean
Although your face looks like it might have gone through a machine
What would you want with a rabbit
Can’t you see that I’m much sweeter
I’m your little senorit-ar
You are my type of guy
Let me straighten your tie
And I shall dance for you
