7803 – mope mope monkeys on a bike!!

Still feeling a little mopey, and more than a little like a cave-bear. I’m really just not in the mood for interaction with loud, noisy little peeps today. Both Friday and Monday have been cranky workdays. Today would do well to change the pattern.

Usually, Autumn will lower gravity, not raise it.

Poor Herm got her ankle hurt on vacation… I hope she’s feeling better soon. Sweeties shouldn’t get owies.

A group of children, all wearing ape masks, rides their bicycles to the park for a picnic. Along the way, all but one are eliminated for violating basic bike safety rules.

One Got Fat: Bicycle Safety (1963)

Edward Everett Horton narrates. Mr. Horton provided the wonderful narration for Jay Ward’s Fractured Fairy Tales on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show, too.

Best Bike safety film, ever. I love how they keep getting killed, but the rest continue on to picnic. Nelly was cute when angry, but Filbert is my favorite demise.

7794 – Friday! At Last!

Weekend plans? None, really. Relaxing, I hope. I may actually have the whole weekend off from call, if the stars are right.

HBO is actively poisoning the BitTorrent downloads of the new show Rome.

I’m glad they mention PeerGuardian. (Hint, add all lists provided.)

The first time I’ve looked at the lj portal page in a bout a year.. they’ve cleaned it up a little bit, but I don’t see any non-cosmetic differences.

1 year ago – met some VIPs, mooks, pente, Kiwanis, free stuff, Everything you can think of is true

I heard the sound of water dripping on tile, looked down, and noticed my foot was bleeding. A tiny puddle of red had formed, before I staunched the flow with a paper towel. I have no idea what I cut myself on, but I didn’t even feel it.

Going out to lunch with Jenjen this afternoon. Hopefully, it’ll be funfun!

I wonder what GrayPumpkin is up to these days… hopefully he’s just busy. Oct-Dec can be quite a time for him and Katt, visitor-wise and so on.

Ah, here’s my issue – error – VC316-2, VC316-1W – Video memory – Hardware

I suspect all the power spikes gave it a fry. Next paycheck, I’ll grab a new video card, and see how that works.

Video Journal Entry. Nothing special, really.

I sometimes read the word “Flower” (like the plant) as “FLOH-er” (like something that flows).

Icon o’ the day – Rainbow Raider!

rainbow raider!

“We’re gonna find our father, but between everything here and there, we’re going to kill everything bad.”

I heard that quote played in the background while I was reading stuff online. The show was Supernatural but I thought about how keen it would be if these two were just delusional murderers raised by some psycho who got trotted off to jail. I flashed to the “monster hunters” are killing innocent people who were impeding there progress in recovering their father from some institution…. the show, instead of being another “Project Bluebook/X-files/Chill Game” type gig could instead be the insane POV of a pair of guys sublimating homicidal activities with some severe schizo hallucinations. Two guys traveling around leaving a trail of bodies in their wake, blaming invisible “monsters” nobody’s ever seen. The FBI is going to take ’em down, and soon.

That said, I actually kind of like Supernatural for what it actually is… yet another bogey-hunter show.

National Geographic has a live webcam pointed at an African watering hole. “Embark on a quiet adventure and watch wildlife gather at Pete’s Pond. Baby baboons scurry in the dust. Wildebeests push and shove to make room at the watering hole. Warthogs wallow in the mud. Catch these moments and more in these video clips.” See Also – Baby Panda cam! and of course, NewtCam.

I’m happy. I saw elephants. Speaking of which, this would make a great tattoo –

7337 – The tv multiverse.

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/crossovers.html – how characters in one show relate to another. Superman, Get Smart, Maude and St. Elsewhere all take place in the same universe.

216 shows are connected to Homicide: Life on the Street and St. Elsewhere, for a grand total of 218 series.

Here’s a handy Chart.

or, you could just join , and watch how things flow together.

7335 – Humpday, already?

Well, new work recruits Liz and Sara both seem quite nice. I feel a bit like a Hippie/Thug Bosley from Charlie’s Angels going out to lunch with RS, LM and VS. Me and three cute Mid-20-something gals is fun.

I got a note from Fedex that they’ll try and deliver again tomorrow… I suspect it’s my goodies from weezeronithe weezle!

Newton has taken to thieving my red string. I should get him one to wear as a collar. I think he likes the little green circular bead enmeshed in the middle… or maybe it reminds him of milk rings we play with. Or maybe he’s a cat and that twine is his natural prey. (He never really messes with my sandalwood prayer-beads I got from Sedef a few years back, though they’re twine-y in places, too.

2nd life has been quite the thing lately, an odd mix of nice folks… or is that nice mix of odd folks? HP and Qdot are cool, nice folks to hang and gab with… I’ve also discovered some things to be leery of, like “adult-oriented furries“. (wiki entry, pretty safe for work, I think)

I’ve got a few avatars now, but the one I usually wear looks mostly Scotto-like, but I’ve also got a Newt-looking one, and a Dalek that’s pretty keen.

I’ve found that an old Hawkman Lapel pin makes a much better TV antenna than I thought.

I’m really fascinated by apriljoy’s video posts. Very interesting to see a face, a voice and body language with the monologue. I’m debating a video-journal entry or two using the palm-cam. (each of her entries are from 2-3 minutes long.. good little blurbs of life. Her voice and mannerisms reminds me a bit of sedef.

I test-uploaded a video at my section… about a year ago, I caught some Newton footage. Not sure why it didn’t snag the sound. Here it is in quicktime, with sound active.

7712 – Stream of thought.

Rewinding a bit. randomness. may mean nothing, first off the skull this morning before fully waking.

I remember a time before fanny packs existed. And then became trendy…and now, are rightfully back in the land of oblivion, for the most part.

I remember a time before home video games, pre atari 2600, even pre-pong. I remember when arcades were a big deal, even though they were mostly pinball machines, pool tables and maybe a space invaders or deathrace game.

My favorite games were Battlezone, Joust and Berserk. Bro was fond of Centipede, Crazy Climber and Donkey Kong. We did a good job playing cooperative Gauntlet, too.

I remember a time before I had Newt, and that I’ve become a better person as a result of adopting him… which was in no small part due to D’Art-kitty.

The was a time that I thought I was superior to most other people, because I thought myself bigger, stronger, more intelligent, and more emotionally together. I know better now, on all of those points.

There’s *always* someone more knowledgeable, more physical, more cunning or even more wealthy. That doesn’t mean they’re better or worse than anyone else, it just means they have more opportunity to make things good for everyone. If they don’t, they’re wasting resources.

I’ve learned more tolerance of people without those resources, because they have other elements that make them just as valuable. Even if that element is as basic as “they’re loved by somebody, so they must have some worth”

I’ve learned that oftentimes people put other people down just to build themselves up… and that makes the insulter look a little pathetic. I’ve also learned that humor isn’t always cruel.

I’ve learned that honesty is the best policy, having been on both sides of too many situations to count that proved the rule, time and again. That was a long time coming. Mind you, diplomacy still has it’s place.

I’ve learned that there are people in this world that are evil, predators… but they’re in the gross minority.

I’ve learned that most people are obedient, generally following all sorts of rules, because it makes the whole mechanism of society flow pretty easily. I’m still amazed that traffic signals actually work. Proof that we can coordinate on a basic level.

I remember when Calvin and Hobbes has a new cartoon every day. And the Far Side. And Bloom county. I remember when Doonsbury was both relevant *and* funny. I remember when Garfield was fresh, and when Bill the Cat was introduced to mock him. I remember when Outland turned into Bloom County II, and just sort of sucked.

I remember when Danny Elfman wasn’t a hack… and when a new Tim Burton movie looked fun, and fresh.

I remember a time when there was only one Star Wars movie, and it was cool.

I remember really digging after school TV. 4-in a row – My Favorite Martian or Lost In Space, (it alternated), Batman, The Monkees and Classic Star Trek.

I never really liked the Transformers.

Robotech was on in the morning, but I only ever got to see half an episode, because I had to leave for school.

I’ve learned not to compartmentalize my friends so much these days. Overlap is a generally a good thing.

I remember being kissed on the Haunted Mansion Ride, and not following through with it, because I thought I’d be going out with someone else that week. I was wrong, and I missed a great opportunity for a relationship and a long-term friendship as a result.

Dancing with a deaf girl is nice, because you can lead, and the music won’t screw you up if you can’t follow the beat. You can continue to slow dance even after the music has stopped.

I’ve found that most people aren’t on the same frequency as I am, but they’re usually willing to talk until all of what they have to say needs to get said. My communication skills vary greatly depending on who I’m talking to. I’ve found that I communicate best with children, animals, and people with a light history of marijuana use.

I have the most difficulty communicating with people trapped “inside the box”. They think that just because I talk kindly to them, that I share their beliefs… no, I’m tolerant, is all. I do get a little frustrated with people who don’t dialogue, but instead spend the time when I’m speaking thinking up a reply to what I’m saying, rather than *listening* to what I have to say.

I’ve learned to actually listen to what people are saying to me. Most of the time. If my brain’s filter doesn’t turn it into the cawing of crows due to something said that was colossally stupid. That can get me into trouble if I’m not careful.

I would really like to have a diet cream soda slurpee. I wonder if they’ve ever tried that flavor?

Exit, Stage Right.

Torrenting the first three episodes of HBO’s Rome – GP seems to dig it, and I trust his judgment.

Got an invite to a Hero Group, meeting every other weekend:

Just pinging some people from RPGRegistry.com because a few friends and I are interested in getting a Hero game together to play every other weekend (probably Friday nights, but this is mutable). Anyway, just seeing what kind of response we get. There are three of us. We’re probably looking for two more, maybe three. We’d love to find a Hero GM if possible (but if necessary, I’ll run, but I’m just learning the system), so if you or someone you know would be interested, drop me a line. We’re all late 20s to later 30s, experienced gamers, and looking for a the same.

We’re currently most interested in playing Fantasy Hero, but Space Hero holds some interest as well. I’m located in Boca, another player is in Hollywood, and the other is way west on Miramar Pkwy.

I replied that I wouldn’t mind meeting folks and seeing what’s what. Friday’s aren’t the best for me, but maybe it’ll work out. It’ll be interesting to test the waters and meet new folks. That reminds me, I should write back to J & B sometime soon, too. Hopefully, the bulk of extendo-weekeneds is over for the time being.

Nifty Video of a woman fending off an elevator purse-snatcher.

Moment of Lyric: ‘mp3 – Thanks again, Firpo!)

Sheep, Sheep, Don’t you know the road?
Yes, my Lord I know the road.
Sheep, Sheep, Don’t you know the road?
Yeah, Lord I know the road.

Don’t you know the road by the playin’ of the song?
Yes, my Lord I know the road.
Don’t you know the road by the playin’ of the song?
Yeah, Lord I know the road.

It’s funny, but it’s true that once I became an agnostic, I started finding spirituals more lovely than when I was steeped in religion. I was reminded of that when F pointed out that was the situation for her, as well.

1 year ago – hurricane home movie, happy to be home, pentagon crash snopes

2 years ago – annoying LL, death, IRC pix, gender genie, toys, sunset, rainy day

3 years ago – Crash Bonsai, sticky song poll

4 years ago – Hammer-Wheel, Beijing, Stephen Foster, Mystery men Hiring, soap hair

5 years ago – Suzy goes to the Clink

7639 – Thank you, Lisa2!! (Electric Boogaloo)

Lisa2, (or Weez & Sedef) sent me a lovely strawberry shortcake glitter night light (red, of course, with strawberry shaped foil bits to spin around). It’s awesome, and matches my blue glitter lava lamp perfectly. Hmm, I guess in proper sense, it would be 2(Lisa)?

It totally made my day, and I was needing a pick-me-up! In the dark, it sends off a very warm glow, compared to the cool light of the blue, too.

Thank you so much!! (Pink in honor of you both, and Strawberry Shortcake.)

I still think Holly Hobbie could totally take Miss Shortcake in a fight, but SS does have a nice scent about her.

2784 is my new score at that rotating snake game thingum. I may steal it to host in the toybox.

Moment of Lyric (mp3via)

7623 – Muh-muh-muhndee.

Lunch meeting went well, coving call not too bad.

Monday meeting this morning. Blech.

First day of school for most kids in this region.

Crazy Thunderstorms all weekend, started last Thursday. More electricity than water.

Susie is working Friday nights now as bartender… that shuffled Mariah to thurdaysa, and Melissa right off the schedule… not cool, even if Susie is a total doll. Melissa got fairly hosed out of the deal. The New Weekend manager is Larry’s Ex-wife, and seems ok, but Gil is still my fave.

Random Scotto factoid: I say thank you to automatic doors. Also, in the morning, when I’m the first one to the building, I’ll gesture with my hand forward, and trip the mechanism while saying “Sim-sim-sala-bim!”

“When Captain American throws his mighty shield…
All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield…
If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due then the red and the white and blue will come through…
when Captain America throws his mighty shield!”

I can’t believe I’m the only person that wants to visit Danny the Street.

Unfortunate Childrens Books

Moment of Lyric:

7602 – On the other hand, you have different fingers.

Mostly peaceful Sunday, thank goodness. Bro asking me about CDs and DVDs for the new portable player that he “acquired”. He still hasn’t given me my old DVDs back yet, and I told him that. I may have a burned copy of some old cartoons and the like for him, but I don’t know if giving them to him is a kindness, or condoning his behavior. I’ll have to reflect on it some more.

That reminds me, I have to get postage and mail out those other DVDs.

Moment of Lyric: (mp3)

6956 –

Walkabout was nice.. I got some needed chores done, and eyeballed some notebooks, as lappie’s feeling his age. 256 meg is lappie’s max, and the OS is getting too fat, and the HD too small.

I may get myself an early Christmas present sometime in the next month or so. The Averatec 3500 is looking like a winner. I’d prefer the pen to be mounted in a silo, rather than just on the side of the screen, but that’s a trivial concern next to it being a tablet-notebook that’s under $1000 after rebate.

I’ll see how I feel in a week or two.

Do any new cars have that little triangular window in the door? Strange nostalgia, seeing one recently.

Best line I’ve heard lately…

“A SUV with an American flag on it is like a whore wearing a rosary.”

Random scotto factoid: Lately, when I say the word nice, is sounds to me like “noice”.

Top-Earning Fictional Characters Quick list

6953 –

I think the idea of Galactus with a gold tooth, flashing gang signs, and going “East SIIIIIDEE” before taking a bite out of Earth is no worse than most of the comic book stuff I’ve seen lately.

I don’t think that I have a destiny. I do have a direction… I want to thrive while doing good work. I think the idea of “fate” is awful situation… who wants to be stuck on one track, no choice, trapped?

Random Scotto factoid: I am made of meat and blood, bone, teeth and hair. There’s some bacteria, dust mites and plant life, too. Electromagnetic impulses, sticky mucus, bright blue eyes and a titanium pin.

Saw about 10 minutes of Smallville last night… meh. Maybe it was an off night, but Clark and Lana seem to be less able to act than most of the co stars. Maybe they suffer from “Vader” syndrome… hired just by looks, not ability. It seems that the show relies on shining reflections off of people’s eyes, too.

Quote from the episode – “A man is measured by the quality of his friends.” If that’s the case, I’m in good shape, and my bro’s in a bit of trouble.

How’s the saying really go? Quality of his years? Maybe that’s more of an internal thing.

Lost was a lot better… but I don’t like 10,000 speed film or whatever. The “Gladiator/sports photography” look just doesn’t engage me.

My Lost-FI theory
