Like Giving Candy To A Baby
=================================
The FBI said Friday that it is investigating the cash purchase of “large quantities” of candy from Costco stores in Hackensack and Wayne.

“We have been advised and we are looking into the incident of a gentleman buying large quantities of candy,” said Sandra Carroll, an FBI spokeswoman in Newark.

Did anyone tell the FBI that Halloween is coming?

Dream Drug for goth kids!
The Man Is Keeping This Magical Elixir Away From You!
=================================
The magical elixir is supposed to cure all sorts of ailments: gonorrhea, leukemia, sleepwalking, AIDS, arthritis, athlete’s foot — even anthrax. And now, thanks to Howey-in-the-Hills Mayor Greg Bittner and the Town Council, colloidal silver is the officially endorsed “simple solution” for anthrax or any other malady that might strike the 950 residents of the quiet Lake County village.

Bittner, definitely not taking his cue from medical science, told a council meeting last week: “This is the greatest medicinal item that has ever come along. It wipes out virtually every virus.” Wishful thinking. Federal health officials in 1999 prohibited the marketing of colloidal silver as a remedy for any disease because it turns human skin blue and gray — permanently. And they say the fluid — actually, tiny particles of silver suspended in distilled water — doesn’t cure a thing.

Officials at the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission were horrified to learn that any government would promote what they consider a
scam.

Potential New Japanese Fetish: Undercover Transvestite Police
=================================
Cops often say police work is a drag, but it seems the Aichi Prefectural Police have taken the belief a step further in an effort to combat a criminal who pilfers women’s purses, according to Josei Jishin (10/30).

Parts of Nagoya have been plagued in recent months by a snatch-and-grab thief targeting young female office workers and hostesses walking along dark thoroughfares. With over 300 robberies reported for the year as of the end of September, police decided something had to be done.

As female officers are usually relegated to traffic duties in Japan, only the male members of the force were considered as realistic weapons to combat the crimes.
Although the idea of dressing up male officers as women trying to lure the bandits into the open began as a joke, Masanori Hyodo, an Aichi Prefectural Police lieutenant, soon found himself ordered to give it a try.

“We picked out four of the smallest, thinnest officers we could find and designated them our cross-dressing cop corps,” Hyodo says. “Snatch-and-grab crimes occur almost instantaneously, and neither the criminal nor the victim can recall many of the details of what’s happened.”

Um, I thought that it was a gag when they did it on Barney Miller, dressing Sgt. Fish up as an old lady. Go figure!

crabwise & popinjay

crabwise (KRAB-wyz) adjective

1. Sideways.

2. In a cautious or roundabout manner.

[From the sideways movement of crabs.]

popinjay (POP-in-jay), noun:

A vain and talkative person.

Popinjay is from Middle English papejay, popingay, meaning “parrot,” from Old French papegai, deriving ultimately from Arabic babagha.

LJ perhaps should perhaps be renamed popin-J.

5 venoms I got myself a treat today from Kmart… Five Deadly Venoms, one of the few that I saw in the theatre when I was living in Richmond.

A kung fu DVD (for $3!!) I love the Kmart discount bin… I’m going to treat myself to maybe a dozen more of these. I’d have bought this one for $20.

the DVD is *nothing* special, techwise… a direct video (fair quality) to DVD copy, but for three bucks, you can’t go wrong. but back when I was 8 years old, this theater would have kung-fu Saturdays that I would go to with my brother, father, and Bill Brunot, a good friend of the family. (I think that’s where my tradition of sneaking food into the theatre started too… PB&J, with a thermos of kool-aid, Dad and Bill snuck beer in.) There’d be a double shot of chop-socky… and then we’d all go goof off at Bill’s house, usually playing ping pong or bumper pool. Back in the day… good times. I miss them a lot sometimes. Nostalgia is like that.

I saw Flying guillotine there, too, but I budgeted tightly, and honestly didn’t have $3 extra to pick it up. (I prefer to do dealings in cash.) There were like 10 copies, so I think I’m safe. Next weekend, I’ll grab a nice pile of them. heck, I think there were only 7 or so different ones. there. one of each will do fine for about $20. 🙂

I love having a dvd player in my laptop! watch bad movies, chat, and program in VB all at the same time!

*does the twist*

Now, I’m watching an infomercial about ‘super blue stuff‘ pain reliever… and it is extolling Emu oil.

Isn’t an Emu a large flightless bird?

Just Chicken Fat?

Or is there some other sort of Emu? It strikes me as weird rubbing squeezed ostrich on some sore muscles.

I wonder if this works or is quackery, like so many other weird pseudo-aids on the market.

ludic

ludic LOO-dik, adjective:
Of or relating to play; characterized by play; playful.

Ludic derives from Latin ludus, “play.” Ludicrous, “amusing or laughable,” shares the same root.

far from laughable – some great font sources.

been trying to post, and reply to stuff off and on since about 7:30 this morning, but as some folks know, the dang LJ was down for a bit, doing a big database move. I’m glad they *try* to do it late at night, anyhow. 🙂

poem for my beloved –

I wish I were close
To you as the wet skirt of
A salt girl to her body.
I think of you always.

Random Scotto factoids

Pebbles Flintstone was born (on TV) 7 years to the day before I was. (Though I wasn’t on TV).

The scariest thing about Weebles was that you can’t lie them on their side to indicate when one is sleeping or dead.

I saw a bus-stop ad yesterday that read, “I scream, you scream, we all scream for pork tenderloin.”

Weebles may wobble but if you drop one from a helicopter hovering a few feet over an active volcano, they will indeed fall down. That’s gravity, you know. Not only will they fall, they will melt. It’s true. And the same goes for your sun glasses and random objects you can find sitting around inside the helicopter. Oh yeah. Helicopter pilots don’t like it when you throw random things from the helicopter into an active volcano. Remember that. It’s important.

Raining hard outside, lots of thunder and lightning.

burning more champa, and wrapped in a cocoon of a recently out of the dryer coverlet, underneath which is a Scotto wearing an also freshly dried gi from my old Tai Chi/Tai Qwon Do uniform. There’s a purring kitty resting on my feet, and I’m chugging Gatorade, now that I’ve had my Theraflu.

Comfortable as possible, given the situation. 🙂

Taking a time-out from folding laundry.

I had wicked dreams last night. terrible ones.

I don’t really remember them very well… but it was borderline on a night terror. I woke up in the middle of it last night, choking and coughing because the CPAP stopped sending me air properly as I slept (the nose filled with cold yuck, barring any air passage) so I woke up, gasping like a fish on land. One good inhale led to a huge coughing fit. I know my body was covered in sweat, my heart rate was high, and my mind had that sort of “lizard-brain” panic that only pops up when you fear for your life. The closest thing I would guess at would be like an anxiety attack, but I don’t know if the severity was the same.

What I do recall is that for some reason, I was all alone again, back where I was maybe a decade ago, only it was current day. No sweetheart, no Newton, nobody that I could really call a friend. It was a miserable existence back then, but something in the dream made it horrific. Probably because I’ve become so attached to the people I care about. I don’t know if being alone was a result of something I’d done, or just the way the world worked…. I know the dream was prematurely stopped. It’s just as well. I don’t like to dwell on losing loved ones.

The feeling of panic and sadness hit me hard, and it took a span of lighting some champa, stroking Newt, and about 20 minutes of calming down to really recover.

I blame being sick. I’ve not had a spook like this in quite a long while… I hope not to have one again anytime soon, if at all.

Good Morning All!

Going to do laundry early today, before I see my sweetheart .(I rarely see her before noon on the weekends, anyhow..she’s a sleepyhead) Cold is lingering… usually I burn the flu off in a couple of days. if it’s still bad on Monday, I’m going to see a doc about something more behind-the-counter for a cure. (I wouldn’t even be doing laundry today, if I didn’t *have* to. I need clean sheets, towels and clothes, dangit!)
