Weekend miscellanea

BHK and MIL worked on pom-poms for the little free art gallery. BHK does yarn, and MIL does beads.

FIL and I watched music and Appalachian history videos.

July’s books: *Starseekers* by Nicole Glover – not grabbing me, reading it for book club. Not bothering to finish it today, since it looks like we are skipping book club tonight to have a last hurrah with the in-laws before they launch. It may land in my DNF pile, unless I hear something amazing about the story after 40% boring. How can a book about magic, space flight and empowerment be boring? I dont know, but they manage it.

Reread *Martian Chronicles* and *Dandelion Wine* by Ray Bradbury as a way to procrastinate reading the book club selection above.

When ordering coffee in German, make sure you order ‘einen Latte’, not ‘eine Latte’, unless you want very special treatment. (Saying ‘eine Latte’ uses the feminine article and translates to slang for an erection, while ‘einen Latte’ (or ‘der Latte’) refers to a latte coffee.)

See also *Umfahren* – This verb means both to drive around something and to run over something.

“Ich habe den Fußgänger umfahren” can mean you safely bypassed a pedestrian, or you actively hit them with your car. (The difference lies entirely in whether you stress the first or second syllable.)
